Warm hospitality and comfort delivered expertly by a supremely professional team. We were a small family group requiring some challenging dietary requirements, all of which were dealt with in a very accommodating fashion. Nothing was too much trouble.

We have visited Gidleigh a number of times over the years and it’s always a special treat. It’s a wonderful setting and we were treated to wonderful weather. The rooms are always spotless, but it is probably time to add back in the items removed when we were learning to live with Covid. The science has provided that it’s impossible to catch Covid from soft furnishings, books, magazines and the like. Thus the lack of reading material could be reviewed. Food as ever was excellent and for once it was quite nice not to have a buffet style breakfast! Not quite 5 star on this visit, a few minor service quibbles, but don’t let that put you off a visit.

We stayed in the SPA room and it is truly a luxurious experience and one we would highly recommend. Great food, wonderful staff and a fantastic location for afternoon walks to unwind. The fun begins even before you find the hotel (little back roads need to be navigated first) !

The food was wonderful..very, very tasty, very creative and wonderfully presented. Our server, who is from Dartmoor, was friendly and helpful and obviously loved her job. The other servers were efficient but not willing to engage with us. We were never asked if we wanted more wine when our first bottle was empty. We explained that we only had 2 and three quarters hours to eat because of s pre arranged taxi and when only 20 minutes remained and we had not had dessert or coffee we reminded our server again and he had a rude answer. It would of been nice for them to pack up the petite fours we had to miss We remembered the times here before with Shaun Hill and Michael Caines and though the food was wonderful, work needs to be done on service.

We stayed the night for a belated 60th birthday treat, absolutely everything was perfect. Although we arrived in the rain in our campervan with our clothing in bags we felt treated like royalty. Customised biscuits for our dog, a sensational room overlooking the lawns, perfect afternoon tea in the conservatory, perfect high quality dinner and morning walks in fabulous grounds - what’s not to love!

Room Tip: The roads are quite narrow, watch out for gps “short cuts” over narrow bridges! Best to take...
