The house is located in the Durrell Zoo grounds. Parking is nearby on the main zoo car park. The house was airy and clean. Facilities were basic but very good. A dining room for breakfast of cereals, fruit, bread/toast, tea/coffee/juices/water etc, clean and well squared away. Tables outside for nice weather. Shower/wash/toilet facilities are shared, clean and good. Rooms were basic and clean, we stayed during a heat wave, so the rooms were hot as we went to bed, cooling down overnight. An electric fan was provided to move the air around if required. Comfortable beds. We didn't know what to expect as the hotels were much more expensive, and this was the first hostel we've stayed at - very pleasantly surprised, and would definitely stay here again next time we're on the island. The staff were very friendly and nice. Your stay includes a free day visit to the zoo.

Just back from a week at the Hostel with my wife. Its a great place to stay on the island very well run by the team. The zoo is very good & on the doorstep.Buses are a bit confusing you need to get the 23 up until 17.30 but the number 3 runs later & ask the driver to drop you near the zoo.The Trinity arms is up the road for food.we hired electric bikes from Edds eco bikes to get around the island & i would recommend doing this its a good way to see the island. There are red Squirrels around the zoo area & you do get a good view of them. All the beaches on jersey are sandy & stunning its a great place to go for a week.

The location of the hostel was excellent. The zoo is not the usual lion, tiger, elephant variety, but full of unusual species brought back by Gerald from his travels with brilliant conditions for their care. A great butterfly house, fruit bats, reptiles, lemurs, flamingos, too many to mention. Brilliant for children. The hostel is exceptionally clean with very friendly, helpful staff and good facilities for self catering. Breakfast is good quality and adequate. There is a garden, a TV room and a laundry. For me, the only downside was the rock hard foam mattress, but that of course is personal preference. The first night I was awakened about 3 am by someone clonking down the stairs, through the heavy fire doors, to the shared toilets, and my room was very hot and stuffy as the window wouldn’t open, but this was rectified the next day by a helpful staff member. My family stayed in the camping pods, which were also excellent, with woodburners, separate bathrooms and kitchens. Each pod is located in its own private garden area . Overall a really lovely place to stay

Never stayed in a hostel before so didn’t know what to expect. Pleasantly surprised. Clean but basic room with comfy beds. Free breakfast that comprised of toast and cereal. You can help yourselves to tea and coffee whenever you like as no facilities for this in the room. Bathrooms clean and showers hot. Staff friendly and helpful. Bonus is free entry to the zoo. Cafe Firefly offered great Thai and Pizza on a Saturday evening which was really tasty. Would definitely recommend. For the price and location ( Jersey is expensive ) it was well worth it and we will stay again.

Stayed in a twin room (bunks) for 4 nights. Lovely place and genuinely friendly staff. Bit tricky without a car but some lovely walks and a bus stop on the doorstep (the direct one stops early, but the alternative carries on from St Helier later and is only a few minutes walk). Beds were very comfy and clean. Room was basic, as expected, but quiet and did the job. Breakfast was fine with cereals, toast and fruit. Pretty garden to relax in and great for the zoo, obviously. Only criticism is that the shower rooms are not the best and really would benefit from an upgrade. Other than that, a great stay.

Great first impression, met by staff at checking all very polite and friendly. Rooms are in a lovely house spread across 3 floors. Basic accommodation as you would expect from a hostel but clean and tidy. Breakfast basic but does the job and you can always visit the zoo cafe for a meal or second breakfast. Not the accommodations fault but useful info if you are staying... Be prepared for how far out this location is if you are with a family. Taxis to town or airport are around £20 at the time of writing this review, bus runs regular costs around £2 per journey. Most journeys require you to travel to St. Hellier and then get an onward bus which can be time consuming. The busses to the zoo seem to stop around 6:30pm. The zoo cafe also closed around 6:30pm apart from Friday & Saturday nights it’s open till 8:30pm. No shops for food nearby. Nearest is 1.5 miles. You can get take away delivered but bring some food with you. Walking to nearest village is via road with no footpaths and they are narrow with some blind corners so take care. Don’t let any of this put you off though, we had a great time and the zoo is amazing. Just take onboard the advise above and enjoy.

We have been staying at this Hostel for years as part of a School trip and always have a brilliant time. This Year we filled up the entire hostel! Being able to have the entire hostel to yourself is fantastic and the garden attached for the children to play in is great as it is self contained so you minimise the chance of losing them. Also not many places can boast being next door to a world famous zoo. The staff are brilliant and helpful and the rooms are always clean. We will certainly be returning next year!

I stayed for two weeks while taking a course at the Durrell Conservation Academy. I was so pleasantly surprised with the excellent service and great facilities. The rooms are comfortable and have plenty of space for a hostel. There is a sitting room with a tv and a huge movie selection, and a library with conservation journals. The kitchen and dining area is cozy and clean. They have plenty of bathrooms and showers. Thank you to Ashley and staff for taking such good care of us and giving us a home in Jersey!

Stayed here for 2 weeks in August and thoroughly enjoyed it. Everywhere is clean and tidy. The kitchen arrangement along with self-service breakfast are great. We were on the top floor and are room was perfect. The garden area is lovely for relaxing in and watching the red squirrels in. Jersey zoo was as enjoyable as ever. Our 13 year old son told the staff we would be back next year but we shall see...it is very tempting.

Stayed here for four nights with the wife while visiting the zoo for the Gorilla experience,Overall I say very nice relaxing place to stay,we where given a room on the top floor which I have to say was like an oven because of the outside temperture, but after having a chat with the manager Ashley he kindly let us move to another room lower down and closer to the toilet.lol which was a relief(no pun intended) . I would say it;'s better having a car it's about 15 mins walk to nearest pub/shop but there is no pavements so you walk on the road,if staying here they are pretty cheap to hire ours was £100 for 4 days,as the site is a little remote although there is a regular bus service,I think this stops in the evening. The rooms where nice clean tidy, showers and toilets spotless and there are some cooking facilitys if required, overall I would visit again
