Just returned from a week's stay in the Talana, have to be honest and couldn't find any faults with hotel, may be dated but we'll cared for and cleaned every day. All the staff from Dee and James to bar staff, dining room staff and cleaners were very friendly and happy to help if needed. Breakfast was well cooked and very enjoyable. A very friendly atmosphere with all the guest. Would highly recommend.

Arrived earlier that anticipated, but Dee said would check if room ready, as was allowed to be checked in at 10.30am on a Sunday morning. Explained that breakfast was 8.30 to 9.30 in morning, bar opened from noon. Explained about keys one for room other for front door. Pool out back with nice view of Countryside. Room was clean and tidy and tidied up daily. Tea /Coffee in room. Wi-Fi in main reception and lounge only. Bar man John was welcoming and helpful with local info. Dee and James where available if needed. Next to main bus routes, but only 10 minutes' walk to town. Staff were friendly.

My colleague and I turned at 2am drunk and found reception unmanned. After a mobile phone call we were greeted by a stoney faced lady? Who it's fair to say was less than impressed. When we dropped the keys off this morning she remained as stoney faced as earlier this morning. We would respectfully suggest that being a night porter is probably not for her!

Only thing going for the hotel is it's cleanliness. States free WiFi - only works in reception and the lounge. Breakfast is abit of a shambles, everything is crammed into one table -cereal, toaster, bread, juice and milk. No where to actually prepare your cereal, and you have to do it at the crammed table because the milk is there. Oh and the "bowls" are about 1.5cm deep. No substitutions whatsoever on what they call an "English breakfast" you get 1 sausage, 2 bacon, 3 small mushrooms, a thimbleful of beans and 1 fried egg. Where are the hash browns, tomatoes and black pudding?? What if you prefer scrambled or poached egg? TV is tiny and very limited channels Walls and ceilings appear to be made from tissue paper, you can hear absolutely everything. Wouldn't recommend coming here again.

First the good points. The Talana is spotlessly clean. On check in, you are given instructions on how to open and lock the door should it be closed when you return after a day out. You are given the Wifi password and told that it only works in reception. I doubted this and put it to the test and it is correct, if you are within 6 feet of the reception, you can log in, if you venture outside approximately 10 feet away or in your room, no chance of Wifi. The demographic of The Talana is 70+ and the décor reflects that. The furnishing in the bedroom was rejected by the 1970’s for being awful. The shower in my room was hanging off the wall and the water really couldn’t be bothered falling out of it, so showering had to be done in phases with a few rotations to makes sure you covered everywhere. At breakfast you are allocated a table which will be yours for the duration of your stay, there will be NO deviations from this. The breakfast is a fixed menu and there will be NO substitutions. You make your own toast so if you request beans or egg on toast, you will be served a plate of beans or egg. You will in fact have toast on beans. The 1970’s metal tea and coffee pot come complete with the thermonuclear handle and leaky spout. Breakfast is served between 8:30 and 9:30. If you arrive at 9:31, you will NOT be served. One guest asked for 2 sausages for breakfast which the ‘chef’ refused to do because of the aforementioned no substitutes rule. He insisted all he wanted was 2 vegetarian sausages, the lovely lady in the dining room had to approach the cook again who this time said that he should have said it was vegetarian sausage he wanted. Silly customer! The front of the hotel is overlooking a very busy road so be prepared to listen to traffic of you are a light sleeper. If you get hot under the asbestos duvet, you can ask for a sheet but be prepared for sleepless night until you get it. I think there may limited staff that has authorised access to linen cupboard. The bed creaked, the floorboards creaked, the pillows needed replacing 10 years so by the morning my neck creaked too. The advert states if has free Wifi – it doesn’t. It also states restaurant which implies food (apart from breakfast) being served – it hasn’t. I also noticed it said room service, I would have like to have put that to the test but if the saga trying to get a sheet was anything to go by, I suspect I would have been very hungry. There is a small bar with city centre prices. The strangest part of the whole experience was the first floor of the building. We were on the second floor and came to dread opening the door to the first floor on the way up. Without being too graphic, I can only think that everyone on the floor had the same regular bathroom habit and non of the windows on that floor were ever opened. The staff were lovely, the place was clean but it felt very old, had not aged well and it had a very regimented feel to it. Would I stay again? If every other room on the entire island was full and the weather bad, yes I would. I may even go back in another 20 years when I will be able to appreciate the decor which will no doubt be just the same.

My husband and I booked this hotel after looking on TA and reading the reviews, which were extremely positive. It lived up to our expectations. It was very clean and room was made up every day. There was also tea and coffee in the room. Breakfast was fresh and plentiful. There was always a good selection of cereals, as much bread/toast as you could eat, followed by hot cooked options including full English. We had a slight hiccup in our room when we first checked in but this was very swiftly resolved and we were immediately given another room without hesitation. Nothing was too much trouble. Dee and her husband go out of their way to ensure their guests are catered for and feel happy and settled for the duration of their stay. Dee also very kindly let us leave our car in the car park on the day we left as our ferry wasn’t until after 9pm, enabling us to to use the bus as we did not want to drive around with all our luggage. Something we were very grateful for. Although we did not use the pool we spoke to some who did and they said it was lovely to cool off after a day out. We used to walk to the centre of St Helier through a beautiful park that took about half an hour, however, it was on the number 2 bus route if you preferred not to walk with another bus route a 10 minute walk away. There is a large beach about 10/15 minute walk away that was never busy and which surprised us so near the town. In fact Jersey is full of beautiful beaches. My husband and I were very impressed with this hotel and both of us would have no hesitation in staying here again. We loved this pretty island and hope to return one day.

This hotel was booked as a package inc flights through premier holidays. Although out of town it is on a main bus route ( no 2) to and from Gorey The hotel staff are very helpful and friendly. This hotel could do with a revamp to bring it into the modern era but this didn't distract from the quality produce and plentiful breakfast nice cotton bed linen and plenty of hot water. It is within walking distance of st Helier approx one mile past the merton hotel through a park n along vibrant shopping streets to finish in the centre. Bus tickets are reasonably priced and there is also a Waitrose nearby as in within walking distance. This hotel served the purpose of our visit well. This hotel also has a carpark and a small outdoor pool n area to relax in/by together with it's out cosy bar if you chose to stay in on an evening.

Booked this hotel because of an excellent deal with Expedia and good reviews on TA … and then started to worry about what a 2 star hotel would be like…. Well it was fabulous! In fact I have been to 4 star hotels who could take a few tips on cleanliness and efficiency from this hotel .. especially around breakfast time Had requested a ground floor room and got Room No1 on the ground floor … bright , airy, patio door that opened onto … the patio which has a small sunbathing area with a pool.. all very clean and tidy Beds comfy … towels changed every day … tea/coffee tray … hairdryer though no toiletries but that’s fine ! Breakfast is a delight … 8.30-9.30 run with fabulous efficiency by Dee and her small team ; self serve juice cereal and toast and a freshly cooked hot breakfast to order and with hot plates! Really lovely… and tables cleared very quickly A small car park available with limited parking but we had no issues getting a space All in all a little gem … can thoroughly recommend

The Talalna is an excellent hotel maybe a tad out fashioned in the decor but amazing all the same Dee who runs the hotel is lovely and cant do enough for you. Our room was very clean and the maids came in each day to tidy with fresh towels and made the bed. They also stoked up the tea and coffee facilities. The bar area was open each day and the barman was a chatty bloke. All the staff were very helpfully very polile and just lovely. Breakfast was cereal toast coffee also a fried breakfast. It was lovely and pleny of it. The Talana has a swimming pool and small terrace area. Was lovely to sit there and chill while my husband swam. Jersey is a lovely country and yes we will be back and we will also be staying at the Talana again. In our eyes a great find x
