6 of us stayed here for 4 nights in Mid July. We were on a football trip at Jersey Bulls FC, where our team were in a tournament. It was a very, very hot weekend and we are so glad we chose the Apollo as it was a godsend to cool down. There is also an indoor pool and jacuzzi that we did not use, but they looked nice. The hotel is dated as said, because it is closing, but it is clean and the staff throughout are very helpful. We got 2 fans for our room due to the heat. We only had breakfast, but at £10 ahead it was good value, plenty of choice and good quality produce, that sets you up for the day. Nice bar with decent prices and a pub next door and other fast food options if you need them. Easy walk into town, but also 13 and 23 buses stop outside. Rooms dated and probably have too much furniture, but cleaned every day.Plenty of extras for tea/coffee, bathroom toiletries and even a trouser press. Would stay again if it was not been demolished, but if you are still going this Summer, you will be fine and enjoy your stay.…
Just back from this hotel. It's a real shame it's being demolished later this year. Really funny understand the negative reviews, it was clean and in a good location. Reception we very helpful and professional. I can only imagine people book an average priced hotel and expect 5 star.
I realise this hotel is closing its doors in November but I am writing this review for anybody who wants/books this hotel for summer 2022. I booked Apollo hotel before I read reviews & I was slightly concerned. Negative reviews are totally unfounded. Yes the hotel is dated but it is spotlessly clean & welcoming as are the staff. The pizza restaurant is a bit different as you can see the indoor pool but the pizzas are very fresh & made to order - good value. There is a set menu each evening in the main restaurant which you can view before you book. We loved it - nothing fancy but lots of choice & very well cooked. A good honest clean hotel with great staff , a lovely outside pool & clean inside pool - nothing fancy which is reflected in jersey hotel prices. Sad we can’t come back next year .…
Arriving in Jersey I was asking directions at tourist office about this hotel and was told they are going to demolish this hotel. After staying two nights I know why. Windows wide open and very hot outside and inside the room when I arrived. I closed windows and closed drapes. Drapes had multiple rips and tears. Windows very old and you could hear all sounds from pool and bar below. I didn't ask for this room but supposedly got upgraded. Awful room so no benefit to me but hotel had hardly anyone in it. Very windy and the roof vent in my bathroom wasn't sealed well. Dirt was falling down on all my toiletries on the sink and on the toilet. The staff did offer to clean it up but they would have had to move into my room. It was continues fall of dirt from the ceiling vent. Then I pull back my covers and huge black spider greets me. The hotel staff said my fault as windows are open. I had closed the windows to keep the heat out. I asked for sheets and changed the bed myself. Checking out at six in morning I found the Front desk totally dark. Front door of hotel banging wide open in the window. Anyone could have walked into that hotel. I called but no-one around to print my bill or get me a taxi due to the rain. I was told the porter was making breakfast for someone. They refuse to give me any money back and I feel this hotel has serious issues. Stay away and stay some place else. You want to be in a clean hotel and in a safe environment. I paid way too much for the worst experience at any hotel.…
Having read the reviews we always go with an open mind. The hotel was very plesant, the staff were very helpful and i must point out Mesh and Jason behind the cocktail bar as well as another who I did not catch his name. They were superb. Rooms We had a king size bed, comfortable with clean sheets, room cleaned daily. The room was spacious with plenty of wardrobe space. Small TV but we don't go on holiday to watch TV so didn't even turn it on. Two chairs and small table which was nice. Bathroom - very big and clean, but shower over bath was hit and miss. I also though based on the fact we were the youngest at the hotel (50) some people might struggle climbing over a bath to get a shower, but having since heard the hotel is going to be knocked down in the next few years I guess no point changing. We used both inside and outside pool daily and the jacuzzi and we found the gym, but did not use it. The confusion was the good, breakfast buffet was good £10 and well worth it for the selection and we just booked on the day when we wanted it. Evening meal was a bit strange though, where did you get it, one day we went to where they serve breakfast but it was a private function. We would have normally eaten out but it was Sunday and so much was closed. We ended up eating by the indoor pool, not a problem but nobody seemed to be able to explain the evening meal situation. Location - great, five minutes walk from the start of the centre of St Helier bars, shops and restaurants. Overall for what you are paying comparing to other hotels it was good value.…
The pictures on the website are quite deceiving, on the plus side the hotel is very central & handy for the town centre & shops. Unfortunately certain areas were very tired & needed updating. We had to request a new room on arrival as it was very small & cramped. The shower needed to be replaced & it needed decorating. There was a double bed & wardrobe & a set of drawers & a small 15" tv which was laughable really.....We got charged for moving room but at least the new room was slightly larger, & had been painted & had a reasonable shower installed with a larger screen tv. When I went to enquire about our room the receptionist wasn't really helpful even going as far as saying the tv was bigger than i had suggested. Another person on reception offered to put in a bigger tv but the room was so cramped anyway that we were desperate to move. The pool facilites were reasonable & the food was amazing but other areas were in desperate need of a revamp. Would I return - sadly no...…
Hotel is a bit dated, but clean and well maintained, staff were all excellent, nothing was too much trouble, breakfast was good and buffet style with plenty of choice. We had a room on the first floor over looking the garden, which was very good, easy to walk to the town centre and the harbour, plenty of places not too far away to eat and drink, really enjoyable stay
I have spent some time looking over the reviews for this hotel & find my review lies somewhere in the middle of these. Pros -excellent wi-fi connection -loved indoor pool & jacuzzi (I went around 830 every morning) -friendly bar man. Bar area reminded me of an old library -balcony was a good idea as could unwind after a day sight-seeing -tea/coffee-making facilities -dated but I rather liked the 80s vibe! Cons -didn't opt for breakfast as felt £10 supplement a bit steep -2 single beds pushed together to make double bed -quite a few stairs (but has small lift) -lack of pool supervision I didn't make use of the outdoor pool but the indoor pool was warm (I recommend using the jacuzzi afterwards as felt freezing going into the pool after the jacuzzi!). The lack of pool supervision did concern me slightly as who would know it anyone got into difficulty? There was a heavily pregnant lady there for a while one morning with a toddler, not ideal if someone needed help in the water! The changing room was very small with no window so change quickly! Only 1 shower also! I brought a small towel from my room for my hair (in addition to one you get when you sign into the pool). I was glad I had the foresight to upgrade to a superior room which I definately think enhanced my stay. Our room was bright & clean & I slept well. Some noise from stomping upstairs but didn't trouble me too much. Very close to town so that was a bonus. Despite the bar man plugging the pizza place next door we gave it a miss; never looked like any customers went there. We had a meal in the Indian Ocean nearby & it was delicious! Quite a few steps so not for the very elderly or wheelchair users, I'm quite young but have knee problems so I made slow progress up steps & into the lift! This was my first trip to Jersey so although the Apollo was not bad at all I would probably stay somewhere like the picturesque St Aubin nearby next time. Lots of comments about rude staff; I didn't really notice that; lady at swimming pool very quiet (when she was there). Bar man from Kenya very lovely; we had a nightcap for 2 nights running just to have a chat with him.…
The food at the restaurant was excellent, if you come here you must experience the ‘Specials’ menu. It was so delicious I wanted to take the chef home with us. Anything I cook will never come up to standard compared to our experience here. The staff were all pleasant, accommodating and helpful. Great to have an indoor pool and jacuzzi. The room was well looked after by the ‘bed fairies’ (so nice to come back to a freshly made bed each time). Highly recommend a stay here but don’t leave without going to the restaurant, you would certainly regret it. Yes the rooms/hotel are slightly showing their age but it is all looked after and if you are going to criticise it for not being up to 5 star standards I suggest you go and pay to stay at a 5 star hotel. Overall our stay has been great and good value.…
Reception staff were lovely however….Woken up with the cleaners shouting each morning at 8am hotel is run down very rude manager breakfast is horrible dry cold food items. Shower has the tiniest amount of pressure you can imagine. Unless that’s what you are looking for on your stay to jersey highly recommend you book else where.
