Be sure to check about events going on in and around the hotel at your time of stay. We encountered an outside rap/rock concert, wedding and race the next morning. NOTHING but noise the whole time. We had to forgo our second night to escape the hell.
Pros: The hotel is in a good location with pool, gym and parking garage. It has a nice view of the river with walking trails and blocks of shopping around it, although COVID has taken a toll and many shops are closed down, but there are still some good ones. It is very accessible by car to visit Downtown, the universities or the Southside. There is a nearby rental bike hub. It is at walking distance of some nice coffee shops, restaurants and the nigh life that the Southside offers. Rooms have modern furniture with nice lay out. There is a functional kitchen, sofas and some rooms have desks. If staying for only a couple of days the breakfast is good and plentiful. Cons: If you are used to softer mattress or have some back problems, stay clear of this hotel as the mattresses are very hard and uncomfortable. I was constantly waking up turning and tossing the whole night trying to find a comfortable position. I was traveling with others and got the same feedback from all of them with some of the older folks complaining about back aches. The discomfort was more than the usual when one sleeps in a different bed than yours. The parking garage is a bit small and has many double parking spaces that require you to leave the key if blocking, but I was always able to park in the garage. If staying for more than 3 days, the complimentary breakfast can get old quickly due to lack of variety. I stayed for a full week and the warm breakfast always contained scrambled eggs. They varied sausage patties, bacon, potatoes and chicken sausage links sides every other day, but it would have helped to have hard boiled eggs, ham, cheeses and other fruit salads besides the cantaloupe and honeydew mix. Sliced breads, bagels cereals, oranges and bananas were always part of the offering. Coffee and tea are included, but the coffee was horrible. The room is cleaned up only if requested in advance. It would be nice if they did it as prior to COVID, or at least every other day. Prices before and after COVID do not reflect this drastic reduction of room clean up.…
My husband and I stayed 5 years ago when it first opened, so when we returned to Pittsburg for a family trip I felt confident staying here. The front desk wasn't super helpful or pleasant, but I totally get that the industry was hit hard, so I let it go. I was appalled at the condition of the room when we got there. There was dust all over the walls, cobwebs on the light fixtures, a mixture of hair and dust along the baseboards. The bathroom floors were completely filthy...I only had baby wipes on hand and it was just black when I ran over the floors quickly. Our 2 year old was running around, dropping her pacifier and playing...didn't feel comfortable staying in this room. Checked out after the first night and absolutely will not be returning.
In general, I like Hyatt House. However, this stay changed my opinion. I'll find other hotels in the future. Parking is a problem and overflow parking is a block away and more expensive than what the hotel staff describe. The front desk clerk was argumentative and disrespectful. I attempted to speak to the manager the next day. He was in a mtg. and not available. I left my contact info. and a msg. that it was related to poor customer service. I never heard from the hotel. Also, the hotel was noisy. Staff banging housekeeping carts around at 7:30 AM.
We were welcomed by gracious staff and beautiful accomodations. The suite was nicely appointed with a very nice bathroom and shower. It also included a kitchen although the hotel offered complimentary breakfast each morning. The staff was genuinely caring and delievered exceptional service. I have worked in the hotel industry for over 30 years - and highly recommend this hotel.
First, the staff as expected were extremely friendly and I think tried to do their best. The hotel had several events going on so they were trying to balance everything. We stayed at the Hyatt House for the location as we were dropping our daughter off to college and loved the location on the south side. Our first impression was the hotel room was a bit tired. A lot of dinged furniture and old technology (tvs) and missing equipment (remote). We also tried several times unsuccessfully to get the remote and extra blankets for the pullout. We had to call the front desk 2x and went down once to replace the damp blanket that was brought to the remote and replace the non functioning remote that was also delivered. The hotel staff was very pleasant and helpful again I think just overwhelmed. The hotel rooms should be inspected to make sure they deliver on the premium experience and help for the hotel staff.…
2.5 stars and Subpar for what a good Hyatt house can be. Weekend staff seemed inexperienced and could not offer much at check-in. Overnight staff did not answer the phone. Area immediately around the hotel not good now; in a year, once construction done, then better. Thin walls and could hear stomping consistently above us at night. I think I just wanted the staff to care more, particularly for us as Globalists.
No adequate space to park. Unclean bathrooms, stained bed linen. Old carpets stored in parking garage. Stained and ripped carpets. Shower curtains not washed. Spoke to manager at facility and said, “it is not their best par.”
This area of the city looks like it is getting a huge makeover, and the hotel is just one of those makeovers. We especially loved the fact that it was dog friendly, and while we were bummed to see a dog park directly in front of the hotel that we couldn’t use, the park looks like it will be a great place when it is finished be constructed.
Hotel is in great condition, and staff were super pleasant. We stayed in a suite with my toddler, which was great to be able to close the door and have him in his own dark space (with his 7:30 bedtime...). Very cute neighborhood with many shops and restaurants. Easy parking.
