We stayed for about a week as part of a timeshare exchange. We had a two bedroom, 2 bath unit. The units have a washer and dryer combo (with detergent provided) and full kitchen with dishwasher and stove/oven. There is a family style dining table, DvD player, two TVs (one in the master bedroom). The living room has a pull out couch. The pool, hot tub, fitness center and playground were closed due to covid restrictions. The resort is close to skiing and hiking offered around Mt. Hood. The unit's rooms were smaller, but were clean and good for a family.

All staff extremely friendly, efficient & helpful, especially Christen, who spent time learning our interests, then gave us local maps & highlighted what we'd enjoy, i.e. waterfalls, scenic trails, wineries, eateries (Dragonfly, ZigZag & Riverside Waterfront Grill). Her suggestions were spot on! Our 2-Bdrm/Loft unit was very clean, modern, spacious, comfortable (great bed) & we loved watching golfers & sipping that local wine on our patio. COVID-protocols were closely observed, which we appreciated.

We stayed at the end of July, during the pandemic, so we didn't get to partake in all the resort has to offer during better times (the pool, hot tub, and gym were closed), but we very much enjoyed relaxing on the deck and watching the golfers. We also golfed while we were there and all three courses were very nice and not at all crowded, even on the weekends, and reasonably priced. The kitchen was well stocked and there was a grill on our deck for our use. It was hot, and we were warned that the units were not air conditioned, but we were pleasantly surprised to find that a large A/C unit had been set up in the living room, which did a great job at keeping the whole unit fairly cool.

Be warned, though, that even though wifi is "available," it stopped working for the entire resort about halfway through our stay. And cell service is terrible in the area, at least in our unit. We had to go out on the deck to make a phone call and even then we only had one bar. If you need to rely at all on internet access during your stay, just beware that it might not be available. We called 4 days in a row and were told they were "working on it." But it did not come back up before we checked out. Only basic cable is offered and though we brought our Roku from home to watch Netflix at night, we were unable to because of the lack of internet access.

But aside from that, we had a very pleasant stay and the staff are very friendly. Welches is a lovely area and close to many hiking trails and great restaurants.

A Trifecta of Disappointments

We booked a week at this resort back in November and were looking forward to staying there, due to its location and Gold Crown rating from our timeshare network (RCI). However, we checked in on a Monday and left the following day. Here's why:

(1) The stairs to the third floor, where our unit was located, were more like fire escapes, and, at least in the building we were assigned, a full two flights above where we were instructed to park our car. The resort's website indicates "some stairs," but that's a bit of an understatement. We had just come from another Gold Crown resort that also warned that there were stairs to many of their units, but those turned out to be no more than half-flights either up or down. I would discourage anyone with mobility concerns from staying here.

(2) The units were constructed without concern for air conditioning. In our unit, there was a portable air conditioner that was run, somewhat imperfectly, through a living room window. There were two problems with the AC: (a) It was noisy. When watching TV we had to turn the volume up so loud we were afraid we'd receive a noise complaint from either our neighbors or management. (b) While the unit cooled the living area, it did nothing for the bedroom thirty feet down the hall, even with a fan positioned in the hall to direct cool air toward the sleeping area. We tried sleeping in the bed for about an hour but eventually gave up and retreated to the living room and quickly made up the sofa bed, which allowed us to get some sleep, even with the noisy AC.

(3) Finally, as if to add insult to injury, upon check-in we were given notice that the entire parking area would be seal coated during our stay and that we would need to move our car offsite to one of the nearby roads from Tuesday evening until Thursday afternoon. The notice even cautioned us about tracking the seal coating into the unit during that time. While we recognize that parking lot maintenance is necessary and could not be forecast when we made (and paid for) our reservation, it was the final straw for us. We left before having to endure further inconvenience.

This “trifecta of disappointments” aside, the lack of air conditioning in the sleeping area is the major reason we elected to leave. Perhaps one can blame it on climate change — this area typically experiences average daily high temperatures in the 70s in June (and the low 50s at night). We were fortunate to leave when we did, as temperatures in the entire Pacific Northwest climbed into the 100s a few days after our departure. I am sure that staying here in any of the other seasons would be okay without AC.

Our family of 5 (mom, 2 teens, & 2 grandmothers) stayed here for 1 night in July. We were in a “3 bedroom” but it was really a 2 bedroom plus a loft area. The loft had a large opening to below and only 2 pull-out chairs that were so tiny only a toddler would fit on! It was ridiculous. They should put bunk beds or 2 twins in here as it was not useable the way it was!!! The master was a “lockout” room so it was a stand-alone room & bathroom. There was no air conditioning, so it was very hot even with all the windows open. Parking for our unit was very cramped and curved into the next unit (no way to use if you have a large vehicle, but there were 1-2 extra spots). We did rent movies from the checkin desk, which was nice. Sofa bed was very uncomfortable. Basically, if you have more than 4 adults sleeping in 2 beds, you may want to go elsewhere. We stayed here because it was near Mt Hood, but it was more of a golf resort (with plenty of signage to stay off the course!!). Checkin was very hard to park at due to construction, so be aware.

We are HGVC owners so this was a points vacation which made me rate average on value. The 2 bedroom unit we had was very well stocked with everything needed for our stay. The staff were helpful, sending maintenance down to clean our patio furniture after some wind & rain during our stay had it too dirty to use. Should our travels bring us back this way, I would not hesitate to book this resort again. For travelers I’d suggest buying groceries in Sandy the local food market is fairly expensive and for a nice meal out check out the Rendezvous Grill.

The two-bedroom Loft unit is perfect for a family with a boy and a girl teens. Our unit was clean and came with detached garage. We loved the view of the golf course. I did notice that there was a rust spot inside the tea kettle, but I just scrubbed it off and it was fine. I had reported a leak in the kitchen but it wasn't reported from the front desk. I called again, and maintenance came right away. The washer & dryer are very loud and the dryer does not dry well. However, to me, I am just happy that they are there for me to use. One of the single sofa bed frame in the loft was broken, and my son just stacked up the two single mattresses and they were much more comfortable. It is an aging resort but they kept it clean and looked new (I'm not certain if they were new). The beds were definitely comfortable for all of us.

Quiet clean spacious unit. The staff is extremely friendly and had great suggestions. The unit had great amenities such as barbecue ,washer and dryer, fans. The location of Whispering Woods is right in the heart of all activities for Mount Hood. Just a few minutes away from Services grocery stores gas stations excetera.

Love this resort. The staff are friendly, courteous, helpful and efficient. The location is great - ca. 1 hour from Portland airport, set in woods, with golf course, tennis courts etc. The units are very well appointed and comfortable with generous supplies (more on request from the clubhouse) of dish, laundry detergents etc. Even full pots of salt/pepper and lots of coffee creamer/sugar is provided (definitely not found in most places we've stayed at!). The townhouses have one king bed en suite on the lower floor, and a further king bed ensuite upstairs. BBQ grills out on the deck and all equipment provided. Highly recommend this resort!

The location of the complex was conveniently located to the conveniences we would need. The resort was surround by a lot of trees, had a nice children's playground, large pool and staff were nice and accommodating. We ended up staying during the hot spell in June. A few of the hottest days this year! The living room kept cool with A/C. We had box fans for the bedrooms (which cooled off at night). The entire unit is not A/C...but normally we don't have the hot spells. It's centrally located to the Hood Mountain/River area for exploring at any person's level.

We were there in September this year and we definitely didn't need air conditioning. I suggest you ask the resort AND check the average temperatures for the Mt. Hood area for July to get a better idea. There are enough swimming pools that make me think it gets at least fairly warm but can't say for sure.

I can't answer the question but we stayed the the condos and noise was not an issue. I called the resort and they arrange for two condos that were next to each other and had a connecting door. It worked out well.

The Skiing will propably be very good in January. We drove our rental cars and never saw or used the shuttle. There is supposed to be one. Chains must be in your vehicle. I bougt them but never used them so they were returned for credit.
