We had a wonderful corner room on the second floor, with windows on both sides. Loved the bed. There were two concerns that I need to mention: First: the carpet on top of the carpeted floor presented a trip hazard as it constantly shifted and we could not straighten them out. No room service while we were there the two nights. The second one is that we could not charge our phones, even as we were given a different one from the receptionist. No fun to have to get in the car to charge our phones, as we were taken a lot of photos of the property: the marvelous gardens, the golf area, the meadows, the vineyard - just to mention a few lovely areas, as well as the artwork inside the main house and the restaurants.
The "bathroom down the hall" was no problem, as we were given bath robes and toiletries to use.
The food was fabulous; the service at the "Black Rabbit" very poor.
No passport activity and soaking pool until the next phase opens.
All in all, a very pleasant stay; staff was very helpful and professional.

Absolutely love this place. First the building, it is so large, so unique like all the Mcmenamins properties. But then! This property has a winery, distillery, brewery, several restaurants and a soaking pool. The prices are very reasonable, you can buy wine at the winery and bring it with you to the restaurant. Great deal, the food is very good and also very reasonable. And after all that wining and dining and touring the grounds, go soak in the soaking pool in the evening. Love this place.

Unique, eclectic rooms and surroundings. Their restaurant has a wide array of unique choices featuring produce raised on site. They have a brewery featuring wines and ales made on site. There is a huge, meandering hot tub "river" with its own minibar. A full service spa is also on site. Be prepared to be wisked back into yesteryear.

So our stay was terrible! 12- 5-2020 ( ROOM 218 ) My wife and i NEVER get out and we choose McMenamins Edgefield for our date night we booked this stay almost a year in advance. We were so disappointed in the customer service every person we came in contact with had a miserabel attitude like they did not want to be there! So 1st off we went to check in around 3;30 and we noticed after we got to or room they had charged the card i was under the impression that was done at check out. So i spoke to a lady at the front desk about this and she became very combative talking over me-interrupting me it was so bad my wife made a comment OH MY GOD she heard the whole conversation who employees people that are like that i guarantee she has been getting away with that behavior for awhile and was very comfortable talking to people like that! We went down to the black rabbit to get ICE and when i asked the girl behind the bar she had a tattooed of a sun on her back red hair she was too busy to acknowledge me didn't smile at me or have eye contact it was as if i was bothering he.I watched the phone ring and she gasped like really put out. I stood there for 20 min before i left to go to the front desk. I got to the front desk and explained that all i wanted was ice and that lady... same put out attitude she had to call somebody to cover her she was grumpy over the radio asking for help and there i sat another 10 min before i said forget it and left. We started to unpack and we noticed the trash cans had ZERO bags in them! As we went to pull our towel's off the towel bar in the bath tub part of the bath room and the whole towel bar fell off hitting me on my foot and dumping our clean towel's onto the floor. That ruined our stay we planed on that room with the tub and now we had no clean towels. I felt like i couldn't call the front desk because of the horrible customer service it was intimating. So then we asked for a few extra pillows and when the person came with the pillows they were not wearing gloves. That's bedding and were your face has contact i also saw the same person carrying pillows to another room no tray just bare handed. So in closing the stay was ruined from people who had no personality for customer service to not making sure they were following Covid guild lines! to a room that was not prepped no hand towels by the sink unbelievable. .

Here is the thing ......We choose Edgefield because we heard its a nice friendly place to stay! It was NOT!

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. I apologize that you didn't enjoy your stay with us. The credit card authorization at check-in can be confusing. We are required to secure an authorization for the room and tax, plus a $50 hold for incidentals, upon check-in. How that authorization appears on your statement is entirely up to how your bank registers activity on your card. However, we do not finalize any charges until departure, at which time you are welcome to pay with an alternative method, or split payment if desired. I'm very sorry that this wasn't explained to you clearly and conscientiously by the front desk. We have high standards for customer service, and we are doing our absolute best to maintain those standards, while working within the safety guidelines set forth by the state. In this time of extra plastic consumption, we are also doing our best to remain environmentally friendly, and are continuing to restrict single-use plastic as much as possible. All surfaces in the room, including the garbage cans, are sanitized with a CDC approved cleaning agent between every guest. Again, thank you for your review, and we wish you all the best.

We have been at this location MANY times before and we will NEVER come here again. We rented three hotel rooms and a few family members gathered after a Celebration of Life ceremony we had for the death of a family member. Employees were rude, unfriendly & more worried about masks than customer service. One family member went to pay her tab & they disputed the name “Candi” vs Candace when she tried to pay her bill & then threatened to kick her out & call security all because of the name on her card that they were holding. I 100% guarantee you it was because they didn’t like what her mask said. They were rude to the only person they had a card on. NOT COOL. Guess what? You don’t get to threaten customers who are trying to pay their bill. Shame on you and shame on your horrible customer service. By the way, we’re cancelling our reservations we had on 11/27 & 11/28. We have many friends who are business owners...word of mouth advertising works. Ouch!!!

Hello, and thank you for your review. I'm very sorry that your visit did not go as expected. We too regret the fact that a member of your party chose to use threatening and derogatory language towards our staff. The decision to inform a guest that we can no longer host them is one which we do not make often, or lightly. While it is unfortunate that things did not go as planned, we wish you all the best. Kind Regards,

I was here for 2 nights for business. I was not a fan of no bath in the room, but tried to make the best of it. Several issues really stand out:
1) I did not get good sleep because the building is just loud! With no hall carpets and really high ceilings, you can hear people talking plainly in rooms across the hall. Late night discussions in the hall reverberate. I was woken up multiple times after 11pm because the room above me had creaky floors and people were walking around.
2) Perhaps the following issues are result of the staffing crunch but it definitely lessened the experience. Paper towels out in the bathrooms near meeting rooms. Sinks clogged in the communal baths near my room (really gross). They ran out of key cards when I checked in - they were walking people to their rooms so you could put your stuff in, but then you couldn't get back in if you left. Or get into the bathroom.
3) Initial setup for for my company's business meeting had us literally touching elbows for a 2 day mtg. Midday, the facilitators got another table so that we could all feel a little bit more human and and be able to pay attention to the meeting.

If you are excited about the experience of staying at a historical property, this is a great place because of the music venues, the various eating venues, and just the sense of fun that is intended at this place. But for a business meeting, it's not good. I am going to my 2nd day of meetings with only 5 hours of sleep.

McMenamin's 100% needs to change their rain or shine concert policy (or provide sheltered areas). We paid a lot of money to go see Elvis Costello and Daryl Hall on June 2 and sat in pouring rain the whole time. It was a cold, miserable, muddy, sopping-wet mess. The venue was half full (for two artists who deserved a packed crowd), and many people left before the main act even played (and what kind of upside-down world are we living in where Elvis is the OPENING ACT for Daryl Hall?? That's clearly not McMenamin's fault, but they definitely could have made that clearer in their advertising for the concert). Their show must go on in the rain policy is disrespectful to both the artists and their fans.

We have begun staying in McMenamin's hotels for fun, just to compare them, and Edgefield wins so far. The place is huge. You should come early and stay late. Our room was small and comfortable and we don't mind bathrooms down the hall, especially when robes are provided and all the guests were so friendly. Do bring shower shoes. There is wifi but no TV and we did not miss it. We parked next to one of the vineyards, and explored other gardens - especially loved the large vegetable garden, watched glassblowing, took the brewery, distillery, and winery tours, and the history tour. Saw a freaking awesome concert on the lawn. We went to the soaking pool which is beautiful and inviting. A chance encounter with an employee who spotted us on tippie toes looking through a window of Blackberry Hall opened the door for us and let us explore while he worked in there. Not golfers, but the golf course is well cared for. We found the Jerry Garcia statue and the onion dome and chatted with a man working hard over barrels of wine. We wondered at vines growing up the fabulous water tower with sunflowers at its base. We explored ceramic art in the former morgue, enjoyed the always engaging art hanging on the walls, or painted directly onto the walls, or on the pipes, or in sculpture. Even though we bought wine in the Little Red Shed, stopped to cool off in the Black Rabbit House, lunched at the Power Station Pub, imbibed a pint at Jerry's Ice House and the Distillery Bar, stopped in at the Tea House, had a quick salad at The Black Rabbit restaurant, we didn't see it all. We didn't play pool at the pool hall and there's a theatre too? Not enough time! We will be back.

We reserved months ago and yet we’re given a room that had a porch right outside where people gathered and talked. Not only could we not open our curtains, but we could hear every word that was said, including swearing. They might as well have been in our room. I went to the front desk to complain but they had no other rooms to switch us to and no one seemed to care all that much that we were unhappy. They implied that we could just leave if we weren’t dissatisfied. The bathroom closest to us was littered with trash and not clean. The bedding was sloppy. Never again.

Have stayed at the Edgefield location three times now - Loved it many years ago for all the unique offerings, soaking pool, bars, outdoor fire pits, theater etc. This last stay in January wasn't as great as beds were very bouncy/springy, carpets showing signs of age and ware. The walls are quite thin as we tried to sleep listening to the neighbors conversing and guest moving luggage and opening/shutting doors. I get it's a old property but it's time for a investment by the McMenamins team. Would look else where on the next visit.

Are the soaking pools open all year around?
Answer from agoneil

The soaking pool was open in late October. Limited hours, and limited numbers of "soakers," due to COVID restrictions. Oregon has just now put a 2-wekk "social pause" in place, so it's possible that the pool is now closed again, temporarily.
