Wonderful hotel! Best hotel I’ve stayed at
in a while! This is a boutique hotel that’s paired with Marriott and which you find on the Marriott app for booking as well. They do give veterans/military/government employee discount!!!

Management and staff were all friendly. The hotel was super clean! The toiletry products were good quality and smelled refreshing! I didn’t see a fridge and I don’t think I saw a microwave either.

However….
I slept so well that I was told that I snored heavily… that’s some good sleep!
My room was 318. You overlook the food trucks and parking lot from this side. The hotel has a restaurant and a swing bench in the lobby! Location is close to voodoo donuts and several restaurants. The crowd on the streets nearby, however, at times can be unsavory.

This property was on my list to stay at for quite a while. I opted for the two double, premium guest room with the large window.

The welcome gift in the room was a fantastic touch, the valet was incredibly quick and the front desk staff were a joy.

The hotel was in a great location, with food trucks right across the street, a great lobby to serve as a gathering place with ample furniture as well a nice restaurant. The location was a bit odd as this building seemed like a diamond in the rough. Most of the block was deserted and/or stuck in some type of funk.

Something I wish I would have taken into account before booking was the actual size of the room. It was very small... so small, in fact, that the rooms don't come standard with a fridge (a first for me in my travels). Unfortunately, we weren't informed of this and only later found out much later in our stay.

In all, it was a pleasant stay, but for the $300+ I spent, I would have expected a slightly larger room, with slightly larger beds (don't expect to comfortably sleep more than one to a bed here).

A portion of our family recently stayed at the Hi-LO. While the rooms were comfortable and the food in the restaurant was excellent, what impressed us most was the friendliness and kindness of the people who worked there. Without exception everyone (receptionists, door people, bartenders and cleaning people) was cheerful and helpful.

Worst travel experience of my life - traveling for 30+ years, twice a month. I had a reservation. I am a member of the Marriott Bonvoy program with Platinum status and the hotel manager informed me after a seven hour flight that they were oversold and had no room for me and that he had been working on a solution but could not find any rooms in the area. He spoken on in a soft and pleasant tone but had nothing positive to say and was incapable of his job. On the chance that they do the same to you, do NOT stay here.

After two hours, I was shuffled off to a Residence Inn and the polite staff there explained the whole process to me and asked for a voucher so that they could charge the guilty hotel. I had none. When the residence inn called the manager, he didn’t know what the process was or what had to be provided. So now I have been charged $440 for one night at a residence inn when the original hotel was $160 (a supposedly much nicer place) and I have to hope that I am reimbursed

Luckily I know my Bonvoy rights or else I would not have received the cash and points due to the displacement. None was offered to me by the offending manager.

Do NOT stay here.

Any Bonvoy management reading this - retrain or replace your staff. The residence inn woman was 10x better. And if you value your Platinum customers, don’t displace them from a hotel with 100s of rooms when you are oversold by 4.

I signed up to write this review. I’m sure the rooms are nice, but as another reviewer mentioned, the hotel suffers from its poor location. Sadly, the brand and category didn’t prepare us for that and the website and photos are misleading in my opinion.

We arrived late and were expecting to find the usual valet or bell stand. Instead we found a locked door and buzzer. A guy poked his head out and told us that we could park in the public lot across the street (but don’t leave any valuables!) or we could use the valet at the Nines (a few blocks over) and then walk back. I’m sure the location is fine during the day (aside from being rundown), but doesn’t seem like a place you’d really want to be walking around at night. Everything is still boarded up and there’s a homeless camp a block away. While we were having the parking discussion, there was a weird guy (motioning/talking to himself) standing a few feet away (guess that’s why there’s a locked door). Not a location I’d even feel comfortable unloading my belongings.

I wanted to start off by saying that this beautiful gem (4 star Autograph Collection Hotel) couldn't have been any more accommodating.

Staff is excellent. Hotel and room were clean. Food was good. Bar was cozy. Rate was excellent and in budget. Beautiful structure for its age (city's first iconic concrete building; est. 1910). Atmosphere makes you feel as if you were at a Bed and Breakfast type establishment.

Don't let the area fool you. Although a little difficult on the eyes, it is very safe to walk about during the day, and use Uber to get to any other location outside walking distance.

I would strongly recommend this hotel if you need to do any work or business downtown. Also, there is ample space to for any meetings or special events.

If I ever return Portland, this is the best place to stay.

As a frequent Marriott customer and multi-year Titanium Elite Member, I have to express my frustration with the AM (12/7) front desk staff this morning. Upon arriving the lobby a few minutes after 6AM and placing my bag down in the restaurant, I realized I left the valet ticket in my car. I advised the front desk clerk of this and it was eventually figured out and confirmed breakfast started at 6:30AM and that I would just sit in the restaurant, wait 20 minutes and get a bit of work done while I waited. At that point, she advised I could not sit in the restaurant and I would have to wait in the lobby. When I confirmed that I would have to work in the lobby for 20 minutes then move, she confirmed I was not permitted to sit in the restaurant to wait.

After moving from the restaurant, getting myself set in the lobby, then moving myself to the restaurant 15 minutes later, I went up to ask about the mini bottles of water that were in my room yesterday and if I could get two more, she asked if I had back to back reservations. When I replied no, she advise I would have to pay for them as I was only permitted the bottles on check-in. After that response, I just walked away and went back to the restaurant.

While I appreciate the adherence to a set of rules, I also find going out of your way to appease MINOR customer requests to be standard in the service industry. Between my interaction this morning, the quality of the fish & chips Monday (soggy) and the rubbery roasted chicken last night, you will not see me back at this particular Autograph Collection hotel again.

The worst of Marriott. This hotel plays games with honoring status upgrades. I’ve booked here twice and both times they claimed suite wasn’t available.

The first instance last year, I showed them the room was available on my phone app so they recanted on their claims of no vacancy and agreed to let me upgrade IF I paid an up charge. Then room magically became available. Absolutely contrary to the status upgrade program and undermines the very premise of the rewards system!! Been with Marriott exclusively for more than a decade, traveling weekly across the country and internationally. Needless to say, I filed a complaint.

I decided to give them another shot today after calling first to be clear that I’m ambassador Elite and would only be booking if the upgrade was available. They confirmed and I booked. I reached out after booking using chat on my Marriott app and politely requested the upgrade. They offered a lower tier upgrade. I again politely asked for the suite upgrade and they then claimed it wasn’t available. I then communicated that I could see it available to book snd asked why they were saying otherwise? Response came back the same- not available. Here where it gets next level shady.
I pointed out that as an ambassador Elite, if I booked it on the app right now, my status requires them to make it available. Seconds later it magically disappeared….
So it was marketed available for the 1.5 hours that this process snd communication exchange occurred (app open live updating), and when they realized they had lied their way into a corner, they took it offline. Unbelievable!

This was a very quick trip as I found myself in Portland later than expected and decided to stick around instead of driving back to Seattle. I checked in late and Rachel was very nice during the check in process. In the morning upon check out, Preston was very helpful in storing my bags and letting me know where things were.

Shots fired right below the hotel and ended poorly for whoever it was. Felt unsafe the entire time and haven’t been able to get a response from the hotel. I’ve had to adjust my review several times since I can’t use certain words in a review. I would not recommend this hotel. It started off great until the first night. It’s a really dangerous part of town, and there’s a street right below that people were doing donuts on every night at all hours. They provide you with ear plugs in your room and now it makes sense why.
