From the front door reception with help unloading our luggage to Reception desk to our Room! Exceptional friendly service!!

We were treated with such lovely and unexpected gifts of flowers, chocolates, bubbly for our 2 night stay celebrating my husband’s and my birthday’s!🥳 (86 and 73!! ) We requested a specific type of room and we got it! Our every whim was catered to… including breakfast room service! Our heartfelt thanks to all of ‘Paige’s’ 😉 Concierge’s!! You ALL went the ‘extra mile’ for a couple of Seniors! We felt very looked after, loved and very special! Thank you for making our time with you so memorable! ❤️🥳🎄😘

Booked this stay earlier in the week- we had been to the Domaine Serene Lounge and Jackknife on prior visits, but this is the first stay at the hotel itself.

I must admit, we have stayed at other downtown establishments, but this stay was the BEST experience.
This was also our first outing since Covid- so we wanted to make sure protocols were being followed. Their website was easy to navigate, and had their covid precautions listed. They text you prior to check in to answer any additional questions you may have (which I did!). They were attentive and absolutely on top of everything.

Everything was touch less , from valet to check in to checkout, rooms were impeccably clean, sanitizing stations all over the property. Ice was individually bagged, I mean every detail was covered with regards to safety. Which made us feel super comfortable.

Every employee we encountered was beyond accommodating and polite. We were absolutely blown away.

We can’t wait to come back. Thank you to everyone who helped make the short but special stay a memorable one, and thank you all foe being amazing at what you do!

Cheers- TK and JK :)

We stayed for 3 nights at the Sentinel , and enjoyed every minute of it. Upon arrival , we were warmly greeted by the front desk , and our bags brought up to our rooms. The lobby is beautiful and meticulously kept - everyone who we interacted with was friendly, helpful , and accommodating to whatever we needed. Our room had everything we needed - bed was very comfy! It was very quiet and didn’t hear any noise from other occupants next door or below us. We look forward to our return visit to the Sentinel then next time we are in Portland.

We just checked out of the sentinel. I know there is no true 5 star in Portland but was hoping to come close due to the good reviews. The reality was it was not even a 3 star.

We paid a hefty $300 a night for the rooftop fire pit room. The fire pit was nice but it was a little dirty and the cushions for the chairs had to be requested as they don’t leave them there when you check in.

We had several issues with the room: one of the lamp switches was missing so you couldn’t turn it off fully, the TV wouldn’t turn on (I think they replaced the remote batteries eventually), and the sink kept clogging.

All this on top of the fact that there was no housekeeping which I guess is standard during the pandemic but I literally did not see one housekeeper around the entire trip. We had to request towels multiple times before we got them and one night the front desk girl left her post to bring us those and toilet paper. Besides this young lady, we found the front desk staff inattentive and unhelpful.

I utilized the gym twice, which despite being a public space, was also not cleaned. The same dirty towels were piled up and no clean ones put out and the trash was overflowing two days in a row.

Please look for a different hotel.

My stay at the hotel is for a business trip where the conference is held yearly, and I haven't seen much upgrades or improvements from year to year. Their gym is paltry, no new machines, except for addition of 1 Peloton bike, their bench is bare wood and not padded. On the other hand, the prices per night have gradually gone up more than what I would expect. The most significant over the last year - has increased almost double compared to the previous year to >$200/night. For that price, I would expect more, and the little details matter - the clock in the room was not functional and had to call the staff to have it replaced or fixed. I wish future conferences will be held in a different hotel where the amenities are better. They used to, but for some reason, it has been in this hotel for the last few years. The acoustics in the conference room has worsened this year with intermittent buzzing sounds from the audio and bad reverberation. Staff was very nice however.

Dear 338alberty, I wanted to thank you for your constructive review and feedback here on Trip Advisor. Thank you so much for your kind note about our very nice staff. In our fitness center, in addition to the Peloton, (which offers hundreds of personalized work out programs), we added a Workout Mirror which offers up to 10,000 on demand classes, 1:1 personal training and much more. Along with our other state of the art equipment, and to the contrary, we feel that we have many great fitness options for our guests. I will be working with our banquets team regarding your feedback about the room acoustics so that these issues can be immediately remedied. I am available at your convenience to discuss your stay in further detail and I truly thank you for your feedback. All my best, Matt Bernard General Manager 503.224.3400

Even before arriving, this hotel offered exemplary service. They arranged a birthday presentation for my love.... Cheesecake with a candle and a handwritten birthday card! Check-in was super streamlined and valet/bellman friendly and prompt.
During this pandemic, housekeeping services are impacted but the replacement accommodation is just fine... Fresh linens and toiletries provided daily to the door in a wicker basket and plastic bag. Virtual concierge (courteous replies through text for all requests) and the real life staff are the absolute best of anywhere we have been and we do travel extensively. Vase for our fresh flowers and bowl for the fruit we grabbed from the Whole Foods a block and a half away were delivered promptly.
Our balcony room had a fireplace and a fire pit .... Well appointed and roomy yet cozy and tasteful.
I highly recommend this perfectly located hotel.

The pictures online make this seem a pretty fancy place at a great rate for that kind of quality. The truth is different. The social spaces downstairs are gorgeous. The lobby, the bar, the restaurant, the art, the decor, all fantastic. The people are also very nice. However, staying there, the actual experience is much different. For the price we paid we would have expected a better stay. We had a king deluxe on the top floor. The room overlooked nothing, only a part of the roof, not even sky. There were skylights in the room to bring in light, which was a nice thought. But the blinds were broken so we couldn't get the room dark enough at night. We could never get the room to cool down even with the heater off. But the window open made the room freezing. The bathroom was very much like a motel off a freeway: spacious and bright but crappy amenities. The soap and shampoos smelled strange and were in little cheap bottles that broke. And there was no where to put them or even towels in or near the shower. Room service was horrible. They delivered half an order and we were like, "wtf?" he said "yeah we're out of that, but we gave you some bread." How about calling us and asking what else we wanted? So an hour later our entire meal for two grown men was a 15 dollar beat salad with a beat that had been quartered. The cleaning lady didn't clean the coffee pot or re-stock any creamer, coffee, stirrers, etc. She had not problem taking the generous tip we left. Overall, Portland has a great vibe. We had a nice visit. But we strongly suggest you stay elsewhere and we will as well. Oh, and we asked to see the "room at the end of the hall" since it looks so cool on-line: trust us, it's not worth it at all. Great decor, but it's just a little space they didn't know what to do with and they put a little cooler in there with drinks. But again, very well decorated throughout the whole place hence this review: it all looks nicer than it actually is.

The room was good, but wasn’t happy with the gratuity of $25 for services that I didn’t even know about or use they should post what you can get for that in the room. we got charge for something from jack knife and neither one of us stepped foot in there. The coffee in the room and the lobby are awful. And we did put out a sign every day to have our room
Refreshed but had the same glass for I stay with my wife’s lipstick on it.

Terrific hotel in the heart of downtown Portland. Really cool old-fashioned layout with beautiful lobby complete with wine bar, cocktail bar, and restaurant. I arrived in rainy weather, pulled up to the valet area and two valets literally ran up to my car with an umbrella. They were terrific. My room was nice, clean, and offered a mini bar with a variety of drinks and snacks. 24 hour room service was available as well. Bed was tightly made and very comfortable. Unfortunately I was only in town for the night, I would’ve loved to have some more time to try Jakes restaurant, the wine bar on site, and poke around the city. I had a drink in Jackknife at the hotel, which was crowded and jovial for happy hour. Fast and friendly service at the bar, which was a perfect meeting spot for a colleague of mine prior to enjoying a downtown Portland restaurant. Last thing: upon leaving the lobby I was content walking the 3 blocks to the restaurant in the drizzle, price of staying in Portland, when a hotel valet chased after me with a Sentinel umbrella to take on the walk. That sums up the service at the Sentinel. Was very pleased and if I end up back in Portland down the line, I won’t even look to stay anywhere else.

I stayed here for 5 nights over new years. The hotel itself is lovely and the rooms are very nice. The location is also perfect for tourists.
I had three issues with this hotel though. #1: The $28.00 per day resort fee is ridiculous. Never used the gym once so getting charged for no reason is just wrong. #2: I booked through Expedia and one of the features they advertised (and a main reason I booked this hotel) was that the hotel had free fitness & yoga classes. This is completely false. There are no yoga classes in the hotel. They gave me yoga class vouchers to a yoga studio 20 min walk away. Really disappointing. #3: We enjoyed new years eve at Jackknife, the bar adjacent to the lobby. It's a great bar and we had a great night. We put our drinks on our room tab. A few days after checking out of the hotel, I saw transaction for $680AUD on my bank statement! I would have been lucky to have spent $250AUD. I'd been ripped off! I called the hotel to complain and to ask for an itemised list of this charge. This was 3 weeks ago and still no answer from the hotel. I have no choice but to dispute this charge with my bank now which means cancelling my credit card. It's left a really sour taste for our stay. Based on these things, I would not stay here again.

Hello andrewwT9159WH, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent stay. I am sorry to hear that there were multiple concerns that became a detriment to your stay and would like the chance to address some of your concerns. For the Guest Amenity Fees, it includes more than just the fitness center. It also includes internet access, coffee and tea in the lobby, our online Pressreader, our cocktail hour during the evenings, and our additional Well + Fit options, including our bike rentals and the Burncycle and Core Power Yoga class passes. It is true that the yoga classes are not onsite, but we do have them available to our guests at local establishments. As for the over-authorization, we would very much like to work with you to figure out a solution. If it is for Jack Knife, it is a separate company and they would have the itemized receipts, so I want to ensure our partners are responding to our hotel guests' needs as well. Please contact the hotel directly again so we can ensure this is resolved rather then going through your Bank. Thank you again for your feedback and we hope to hear from you soon.

Our deluxe rooms are located on multiple wings of the building. This means some are city view while some face into a light well. If you call the hotel we can make sure the room type you book is exactly what you are looking for.

we took a cab; 20 minutes probably about $35. But if you don't have too much luggage the light rail line is no more than a block from the hotel. very very close. we used it a lot and if doing this again would use it to travel from the airport. google Portland light rail and you'll locate their website which will tell you everything you need to know.
