It’s been decade since I’ve been back to Portland and work has brought me back a couple of times over the past two months. The first time I stayed at the nines and while I can appreciate the historic building and the staff were definitely doing their best to make my stay an enjoyable one, I do have to say The hotel itself seems like it seen better days and felt a little on the shabby and sad side. It actually colored my feelings about Portland as a whole. When I came back, I decided to stay at the Ritz Carlton. To say the experience is night and day is an understatement. From The moment you step into the doors and are greeted by that proprietary fresh scent, and a general unrushed feeling of excellence, you know you’re where you’re supposed to be. The public spaces are pristine and welcoming. The room was next level comfortable. Quiet, excellent lighting, soft bedding and a ridiculously comfortable bed. Excellent water pressure and a terrifically large bathtub. The views are spectacular as well, and I would suggest asking for a high floor with an eastern view. Hats off to Brian, the concierge and Anthony, the Bellman for providing excellent service with a smile. All of the front desk staff also just terrific customer service. The valet team are fantastic too. Dinner at bellvine was unexperienced into and of itself. The entire experience is breathtaking. The view and the ambience are perfect. The weight staff are lovely and knowledgeable. And Tim, the chef is a magician. The chefs tasting menu is one of the most unique and delicious experiences I’ve ever had. But I also ate up there off the menu and I can’t tell which I liked more. It should be noted that room service is quite delicious as well , had a drink at the bar downstairs and a quick bite down there as well, and the food and service was spectacular. You can’t beat the location, and the fact that they have security roaming. The perimeter means that you’re not stepping over anyone as you exit the hotel. The entire experience is pristine and what you would expect for from a five star hotel. wouldn’t change. Thanks to Kayla and Marie and the entire team. I look forward to coming back again. Yes, it’s more expensive than the other hotels but you get what you pay for.

Usual guest of the Nines and was excited for this hotel to finally open. It is beautiful and what one would expect from a shiny new Ritz - the rooms and bathrooms are gorgeous (love the soaking tub with a view of Mount Hood), very comfortable bed and sheets, didn’t eat at the restaurants but room service was tasty. AMAZING gym, nicest hotel gym I’ve ever seen. One star left off for some minor issues they need to work through - for example twice in room dining forgot things, housekeeping ignored do not disturb and was knocking during a conference call and then forgot to refill coffee station, and biggest issue was that I had to chase guest services to order me a car to airport and they never got back to me despite calling three times (ended up calling an Uber).

I’ve been looking for a place in Portland that provides the full-on spa experience. Most places call themselves a spa, but it’s far from it. It’s usually get in and get out. This place is WONDERFUL. I treated myself for my birthday. Whenever I think about my massage I immediately feel relaxed. It was worth every penny. You also get access to the relaxation rooms, sauna, jacuzzi, heated pool, showers etc. My only complaint is that given you are paying over $5/minute they could accommodate more and put snacks in the relaxation rooms (other than granola), but it’s not enough to knock off one star. I will be going here as long as I live in Portland.

Positives: the view was amazing and our server was just the right amount of attentive. Our water glasses were never empty and, for the most part, they remembered who was drinking sparkling vs. still water.

The best part of our meal was the champagne (the French option) and the cocktail.

The rest: we aren't sure who this restaurant is catering to (for dinner anyway). The menu has about 16 "tapas" dishes ranging from ~$18-26 and about two of them per person is enough for a meal, though we split five total. We were done in 30 minutes, a far shorter amount of time than we'd expected to enjoy our dinner. The wine list was young, pinot heavy, and nothing like what we would have expected from the hype around this place/the Ritz (we were expecting a lengthy list with lots of varietals and vintages). The food was not cohesive: it was like someone said this is what wealthy people want to eat (rabbit, duck, wagyu, lobster, scallops) and just put them out there. The presentation for each was nice but odd choices were made: the butternut squash, for example, was served cold, which was disappointing.

If you do decide to go, at least request a table by the window.

It a busy - as expected for a Friday - so I took a few minutes to orient myself, and asked someone at the bar what menus they had available. After I asked for one and was told how the seating worked (I figured it was as it is: sit anywhere) I took a seat and proceeded to wait 10-15 minutes to be acknowledged again and receive some water and a menu. And another 10 to order. The food came in a reasonable amount of time for a Friday. Though, after taking a few bites of my food, I realized I was going to have to inquire if my mocktail was lurking somewhere on the horizon. It was decent in the way that waiting in line for 50 minutes to ride the zipper at the fair is a decent way to spend some time. The ham and cheese croissant was good, but also something I could make to impress a date I had somehow convinced to stay for breakfast. The marinated mushrooms dressed it up nicely, though. But, that's a whole separate order. I asked for it to be boxed and was brought a box for self service. Or, at least that's how I interpreted a box arriving at my couch and coffee table location and being left unattended for more than a few minutes. On the plus side, they did take care my $16 mocktail.

If you like to sleep in the dark, don’t stay here. Bright lights in the bathroom don’t turn off. Bathroom has sliding door with gaps at top and bottom and light streams through. Hotel knows about this issue but has no solution other than to “put a towel” on a hot light… so, fire hazard.

The hotel is beautiful, but nothing is practical. The staff is inexperienced and indifferent. There were three bellman as I was leaving to go to another hotel — they said goodbye but no one opened the door for me.

Food options are extremely limited; perhaps the shortest room service menu I’ve ever seen.

Save yourself the hassle (and a lot of money) and stay somewhere else.

Perfect stay in a brand new hotel. We were welcomed by the valet and had a lovely chat with the Front Desk, I believe her name was Devanshi (spelling?). Room was stunning with stand alone bath tub and beautifully appointed bathroom and bed. The mattress and linens are out of this world and the Diptyque bath amenities are a nice luxurious touch that compliment a wonderful shower (best pressure in the city I've experienced). We dined at Bellpine for Dinner and it was bustling, beautiful views and wonderful non-intrusive service. Finally a place in Portland that understands true luxury. The bone marrow tartar was to die for, as was the crab Berliners. Breakfast via room service was quick, warm, and delicious. The applewood smoked bacon was out of this world! Highly recommend this new addition to the city and will definitely be back! Thank you Ritz-Carlton for everything!

I was staying at a nearby hotel and stumbled upon the ritz on my walk to lunch. I believe it recently opened for some reason didn’t show up in my hotel search. As a luxury traveler I am glad I didn’t stay here. 600 plus a night for Portland pleaseeee happily pay more than that for Hawaii. They had 3 bellman standing around in the lobby not doing anything yet no one opened the front door??? Even the 4 star boutique hotel I stayed at down the street had a doorman! Come on Ritz! Moving on to the spa it is located on the 19th floor with some amazing views! When I booked I was told I should come early and use their sauna and steam room and relax in the lounge. So I did just that and upon check in I was told the steam room was closed. Seriously? This is why I booked the expensive massage in the first place so I could utilize the other amenities! Their pricing is also murky- online it says $195 for an hour massage and then I was told $225 by the front desk and after I was charged $240. They also charge 22% automatic gratuity. Although it was an expensive massage my masseuse I believe his name was JT was excellent. I get massages every week and he was fantastic. Their relaxation lounge is very nice with beautiful views of the city. They provided spa water and some light healthy snacks. I enjoyed the magazines they provided too. Seems like they have some kinks to iron out still to be a true 5 star hotel and experience.

Wonderful property well located in downtown Portland. Two blocks from the light rail and a few more blocks to the art museum.

Club lounge was great. Christopher, Mary and Mei Mei were excellent stewards. They were always ready with a drink since there’s no alcoholic beverage self service. The offerings were lighter than those offered at other Ritz properties. The evening meal presentation was more like that of a JW Marriott with hot items like mini eggrolls, potstickers, and fried spheres.

Corner suite was quiet and spacious. Never saw a housekeeping trolley since they take a different approach to room cleaning. Gym and pool were top notch as was a pricey lunch at Bellpine. Downstairs bar was fun too with a ukulele player. Would stay again when visiting Portland. All Titanium elite benefits were honored.

This was truly a disappointing stay because of the check in experience. We recently stayed here with family for the night. We waited almost an hour past check in time for our room to be ready. They did not offer us drinks or updates on when the rooms would be ready until we pressed many many times to get these this information and also get water and a glass of wine. They kept telling us that, “it was a busy time for them”-not our problem-and “that it would depend on how the last people left the rooms.”-Again not our problem. It was unfortunate as we had just flown a long distance and just wanted to rest and shower before our dinner-didn’t happen.

Honestly, if you’re paying for a room it should be ready. If it’s not ready, the hotel should go above and beyond and do something to make it up to you. They should also not give you attitude when you request to know when it will be ready.

The topping on the cake was hearing baby in the next room all night. Soundproofing wasn’t there.

I have stayed in Portland many times before and this hands down was the worst customer service experience I’ve had at a hotel which I’m kinda shocked by at a Ritz. I get that there are bigger problems in the world, but this stay wasn’t cheap and it was very disappointing.

Good afternoon gobrazilchacha, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We are disheartened to hear of these deficiencies in your experience. You are correct, it is not what is expected of a Marriott and especially not a Ritz-Carlton hotel and I apologize wholeheartedly that this was your experience. I am working with the housekeeping team to correct the issues, conduct continual training in all areas, and ensure we have everything in working order. Your feedback certainly helps me to ensure we are focused on the correct areas for improvement. I know we can live up to the brand promise and I would love to have the opportunity to regain your trust in our hotel. If you wish to discuss further, I welcome you to contact me. Warm regards, Marie Browne General Manager NOTE: Sent on behalf of the General Manager
