We recently enjoyed a nice two night stay at the Courtyard Portland City Centre, and everything went smoothly as expected.

The valets are courteous and prompt in servicing arriving and departing customers etc. Front desk staff are very competent at their jobs, and the hotel was quite busy with various families and some tourist groups.

This is not a 5 star full service hotel, but it's a very solid mid range 4 star hotel that is located right in the heart of downtown Portland, as well as on the edge of the old town area, for quick and easy access to some of our favourite restaurant establishments there, including the food trucks just around the corner, and of course voodoo donuts. The location is also perfect walking distance to the central district where all the mainstream shopping is as well.

We got upgraded to a larger room with a city view. Room is solid, and pretty quiet. Didn't hear a peep from outside, along the hallways or from neighboring rooms etc. Room is well equipped, clean, nice and updated for the most part with comfortable beds. We enjoyed a solid nights sleep for both of our nights stay.

If you're looking for a comfortable stay in a very well located hotel and at a relatively affordable price point, then this hotel should be at or near the top of your list

Nice hotel in a central location, you need a key card to get in through the main doors (day and night) for security purposes, so that tells you a bit about the area. The in out privilege's of the $45/day valet parking was convenient, however if you don't need it, there is a lot half a block down that is only $15/day (compared to the $30 one they tell you that is across the street). The Front Desk Manager was very helpful and accommodating. The room was huge and beds were comfortable, however there was no fan in the bathroom and the shower curtain was dollar store quality and ripped immediately when pulling it back. Otherwise it was a good stay.

2 night stay in the heart of downtown. Check in was fast and friendly. In fact, all staff were super friendly. Typical Marriott stay, tho we did encounter a problem with the hot water. First night shower was luke warm, at best. A trip down to the front desk to enquire brought a solution: Turn the water in the sink to hot and let it run. A little odd to say the least, and counterintuitive to their water saving toilets. But, it did the trick. So every shower thereafter, we ran the water in sink while taking a shower. Weird. Wifi was good, room was clean. Shower was a bit small for a typical Marriott room we're used to. Fitness room was very well stocked with machines. I've seen some comments about the area not being safe. We walked everywhere and never felt unsafe at any time. Minus the shower oddity, overall a nice stay.

Tina at the front desk was warm, welcoming, and accommodated our request for an early check-in and late check-out. We got a quiet room as requested, had a comfortable bed, and slept extremely well. There was no microwave or rubber bathtub mat, but upon request the front desk sent up both immediately. There was a problem with the in-room safe, and the engineer came up immediately to change the battery. I’ve never experienced such fast problem resolution in a hotel. The fitness center was clean and had a good variety of machines. The laundry room had 2 washers and 2 dryers. Breakfast was not included, but you can buy snack items at the front desk. For the rate we paid, we got excellent value and will stay again our next time in Portland.

hard to beat the location you’re so close to so much to do, the staff is super friendly and will help you with whatever you need. Valet out front was a bit busy when we arrived but they were super helpful in getting us a spot to park and unload. Definitely recommend staying here especially for the price.

Booked this hotel since it looked central to the areas we wanted to visit on our Portland trip. It was a quick walk from the Max light rail (we took this from the airport) but the area is filled with many unhoused. For some this might be uncomfortable but we did not encounter any issues. Location wise we were able to catch public transportation easily and we walked everywhere downtown without it ever feeling too far from the hotel.
Service at the hotel was nice, nothing above and beyond but people were polite. The room was dated and smelled heavily of air freshener, almost as if they were trying to cover a smell. Other than those things the room was clean and comfortable so we cannot complain.

This hotel was great - our room was HUGE and it was just a regular room. Valet parking was very convenient and the woman that was in charge of the valet parking (I wish I remembered her name) was so nice and helpful! Considering the part of town we were in the room was remarkably quiet. Location couldn't be better (short walk to everything including Voodoo Donuts) but I have to say Portland has really taken a turn for the worst since I was there last - so many homeless people everywhere in tents, garbage everywhere, etc. Luckily the hotel requires a key card even to get into the lobby so that was very nice (though sad such a thing is required). Overall great hotel - I would definitely stay there again if I ever am in Portland.

The hotel is not new but still in great condition. Great and nice friendly staff, nice, clean, comfortable, and safe with front doors locked 24/7. You need your room key to get in at any time of the day or night. I liked that. Priced quite well for being right in the middle of downtown Portland. Clean comfortable rooms and we would definitely stay again.

The hotel itself, front desk staff, restaurant, and rooms are fabulous. The price was great for all that. Really impressed with the size of the room, the bathroom, the décor, the amenities, quality, look/feel, service, etc. That was the highlight for my trip, and if this hotel were located somewhere else, I'd come here every time.

That said, the location of the hotel being in the worst of downtown Portland, coupled with ridiculous (literally, jaw dropping stunning) parking challenges, makes this a no-go for a recommendation. It's hard to believe they have no parking structure, and must only use valet or (unsafe) street parking. Even getting to the hotel is difficult because so many streets nearby are closed. I called and asked how/where I was supposed to park, and was told it was just valet, and to find any spot in front and double park (which I did). I actually had to park in a bus stop, left my blinkers on, and gave my key to the valet. 45 minutes later, I could still see my vehicle on the street from my 10th floor room, so I went down to the valet and expressed my concern that I was going to either get a ticket or get towed. He said he was very overworked, had started his shift at 2pm (it was 11pm at this time), hadn't had lunch or a break, that the parking was almost at capacity, and he "hoped" he would get to it later. While I was talking to him, two other guests interrupted (presumably with the same concern) and decided to park on the street and risk it. 20 minutes later, my vehicle did finally get parked. In the morning, one of my antennas was snapped off and sitting on my front seat. Par for the course...

I wish I had known how bad the parking situation was beforehand, because I would never have chosen this place. It's a shame too, since the hotel and room were awesome. If you're taking a taxi or ride share to the hotel, and don't intend to go out, then this is a winner. If you have a vehicle of any kind, don't even bother. It's an exercise in frustration and annoyance.

Zarua, Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your recent experience while staying with us at the Courtyard Marriott City Center. I'm delighted to see you enjoyed the hotel itself, front desk staff, and the room you stayed in! I'm disappointed to see your experience with our valet parking. I can absolutely understand your frustration and concerns while your vehicle was out front after your arrival. I will be sharing your experience and sentiment with the valet manager to ensure we're able to park cars more quickly but also to ensure the staff has better support. Thank you again for your valued feedback.

My initial review for this property was 4 stars but after staying here a few more times I decided to give it 5 stars. For what you pay for, this property is a great value. This is a very good example how price doesnt really equate to the quality of service you get. Special mention to Katie the manager of this property who really does a wonderful job in providing superb customer service. Although Matt and Serena no longer work there, Sarah is another front desk employee who deserves kudos for a job well done. I hope they continue to strive for this quality of service across the board because it is working for them. I would rather stay in a property that is modern, functional and with excellent service like this one than a luxury property that has a more pretentious service. I will be a loyal customer to this property for as long as they continue to uphold this kind of culture.

JB Thank you for your message. Our hotel does not have rooms with balconies. The Portland Marriott on the Waterfront has small balconies (not large enough to sit on) and the RiverPlace Hotel has condos with large balconies. I am sorry we can not meet your desire for a balcony. We do have a great location in the heart of the city within walking distance of many of the most popular attractions. Thank you Dave Murray General Manager

How close to the convention center is this hotel? Can you walk there?
Answer from 17larryy
Seattle, Washington65 contributions78 helpful votes
If you are attending a convention, I suggest staying at the Courtyard Marriot near the convention center. That is a five minute walk to the convention center. The city center Marriott is too far away to walk although you can take board a light rail line that will take you to the convention center at a stop across from the city center Marriott.
