I've stayed at this hotel twice now and was very pleased both times. Three years ago I stayed in a 2-bedroom unit with family; more recently, I stayed in a studio unit by myself. On the more recent trip, I was a woman traveling alone with a fully packed SUV, and in booking accommodations I was very concerned about security. Other properties in the Lloyd Center district are rather too close to homeless hangouts for comfort, but not the Residence Inn: it bordered on a quiet, residential area, was fully fenced, and left me no cause for worry. In fact, I could back my car up very close to my unit so that I could watch it. I _would_ second the other poster's comment about not walking back alone from the MAX train late at night, though: the park next to the MAX stop (several blocks away from the hotel) is definitely a gathering spot!

I was also very pleased with all of the amenities that this property had to offer. The pool and spa area was attractive and large enough to allow multiple groups of people to use it comfortably. It was also far away from the rooms so the noise didn't carry. Since I preferred to take my food back to my room, it didn't matter to me that the breakfast room was small. I liked that it was a hot breakfast rather than the continental breakfast that lesser chains offer. Eggs were served both days I was there, a waffle iron was available, and sausage patties, small pancakes, potatoes, and biscuits were sometimes available. The evening "reception" meal was a bit thin, consisting of chicken strips and iceberg salad, but most hotels don't even offer complimentary food in the evening.

Both of the units I stayed in were very well laid out. It's important to note that while some chains have taken to mislabeling souped-up rooms as "suites" or "mini-suites" as a marketing ploy (a microwave and a fridge does not a "mini-suite" make, Shilo), this property offers what truly are suites: they could even pass as apartments. If I recall correctly, the two bedroom I stayed in three years ago was a true two bedroom, with separate rooms. These were walled off from the living/dining/kitchen area. Even the "studio" I stayed in this time was laid out like a home, with separate bedroom, living room, and kithcen/dining sections. Decor was up-to-date and appealing.

I prepaid $99 for my suite on Expedia and felt that I got much better value for my money here than I did at other properties on the same trip.

I read the review from the person from Sheffield, England, and began to second guess my reservation. But then thought; it is part of the Marriott chain, so how bad could it be?

The hotel was nice. The rooms were spacious; we had the studio. There is an usable kitchen with a large refrigerator.

It was in good location, near a supermarket, restaurants and the Lloyd Center. I thought everything was in walking distance, and I’m not much of a walker. There is a movie theater a block way. The Max (tram) station is close (and free).

The only downsides were probably the breakfast and the Internet service. The breakfast room does get crowded and you may have trouble finding a place to sit during the most popular hours. The selection is not huge, but it's enough to start your day. I couldn't eat everything offered.

The Internet access: While we were there, we needed frequent access to the Internet. (That’s why this hotel was chosen; it had wireless Internet access in the room.) Except our room did not have access. When I spoke to the tech support people about the service, they told me that they were having problems with a few buildings on the property. We stayed in Building #8 and Building #1. #8 bad; #1 good. If wireless access is important to your stay, find out which buildings have a working network.

Finally, about the comments from the Sheffield person:
- Breakfast room: (spoke about).
- Noise from the freeway: The rooms facing the parking lot may get a bit of noise from the highway. But it’s like white noise; you can’t hear it if you don’t think about it. I live in New York City; I have my fair share of background noise. It didn't bother me.
- I could see in the parking lot. No problem with the lighting.
- The stairs are a problem if you have big heavy bags, as we did. There are three floors per building, I think. No elevators.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel.

Thanks for reading my ramblings.

Since our family has outgrown the in-laws house, we've been staying here on our trips to Portland. It is such a good location, near Lloyd Center which has shopping, restaurants and theaters and an easy walk to the Max station which makes everything else very accessible! The rooms are great; I highly recommend the penthouse for families. The staff was nice and the property well kept-up. The only downside was probably the breakfast. Although it was adequate, it can get crowded and you may have trouble finding a place to sit during the most popular hours. You can always get a tray and bring it back to your room since you'll have a table there as well. I still highly recommend it and I will definitely be staying there again in the future.

The facility is a bit old and weathered, but it doesn't detract from the charm or quality of the stay. I booked the 2 story suite as four adults were staying there. I was surprised to see a dining table with four chairs, four sets of cutlery and plates, and a full kitchen with microwave, fridge, and stove/oven. We ate out but somebody who was budget conscious could easily eat in and save a lot of money. There is a Safeway nearby on Broadway; you can get your groceries or Safeway will deliver if you give your order to the desk.

There is a fold out double sofa bed, a queen size bed with bathroom in the bedroom below, and a loft area above that bedroom with another bathroom and king size bed. We had a snorer in the group, so he got the bedroom to himself and we didn't hear him at all, and he's VERY LOUD. There are TVs upstairs and downstairs; bring your own playstation or DVD player as they aren't provided.

Breakfast is provided; it's better than I expected with many hot and cold food choices. Our snoring friend slept late and we were able to bring him back food and they even put it in a take out box. Appetizers are also provided in the evenings Mon-Thurs, but we were there Fri/Sat.

There is an outside pool but it's closed in the winter. There is also a 24 hour fitness room but we never used it.

The people working there could not be any nicer. From the breakfast crew to the desk clerks to the housekeepers, they are all pleasant and competent. They are dedicated to a quiet stay; if you party you get kicked out, no warnings. They make this clear when you register. It's not a place to go to hang out and get drunk. The facility is smoke free except for a small smoking area. Pets cost a 75 dollar nonrefundable fee.

It's right near the Lloyd Center (BIG shopping center) and a Max /Trimet stop so it is very convenient. We walked to Broadway, which is just a few blocks away, for more interesting and varied dining choices. There is a movie theatre across the street.

The only drawbacks are that the facility is a bit dated and worn, and the area can have a lot of panhandlers because of the park nearby. We didn't find it problematic at all and just said, "No thanks" when approached. I never felt unsafe walking at night or around the area.

I would definitely stay here again and recommend it highly.

I got this hotel through Priceline and wasn't quite sure what to expect. All my friends were staying at the Marriot Downtown and it was fully booked by the time I wanted to make a reservation. The hotel is great. the staff are friendly and polite. Good breakfast buffet. The rooms are very spacios and the kitchen for those who like to make their own meals is a great addition. The room was very clean and well kept but they did'nt seem to clean much while I was there. Other than that I really recommend the hotel. The location is also OK. it's next to a mall and close enough to downtown. Public transport is great in Portland although I woudln't recommend using it after 10pm if you travel alone.

My husband and I have stayed here twice to visit family in the vicinity. Our first visit a year ago was perfectly acceptable, though not remarkable enough to warrant writing a review. Our visit last month, however, was a letdown.

This hotel is essentially a very large apartment complex catering to business people who are relocating to the area or are in Portland for extended projects. One advantage to this purpose is that the rooms are large and have full kitchens with dishes, utensils and silverware. The disadvange is that the place is charmless. It looks like any other big, faceless apartment complex you would see in any American suburb. On our stay last year I was struck by how dark the room was, but otherwise I liked the spaciousness and cleanliness. There is a big dining room in which they serve a complimentary breakfast, but we never used it because there are lots of interesting places to eat in the city.

This year, our reservation requests were ignored. When we booked online, I asked for a non-smoking room on a high floor. When we walked into our ground-floor room, it reeked of cigarette smoke and there was an ashtray on the bedside table. To be fair, I never complained or tried to get a different room because I didn't feel like bothering about it, so I don't know how the management would have responded if I had done so, but when we got home I wish we had moved because it took several days to get the cigarette smell out of our clothes.

The room was otherwise spotless, though dark and cavelike as before. Fortunately it was high summer so a little light seeped in, but as a native Northwesterner I can say with assurance that in winter this would not be the place for anyone with depressive tendencies.

I would not recommend this hotel to tourists who are coming to Portland to sightsee, especially those without a car, as most of the interesting sights are on the other side of the freeway and river. There is a MAX light-rail station within (long) walking distance, but the neighborhood near there can be a bit, as the Brits say, "dodgy" at night, with a lot of winos and panhandlers. The immediate vicinity of the hotel is perfectly safe and quiet.

All in all, this hotel is OK if you need to stay in Northeast Portland, and the large rooms and kitchenettes make it a good value. But if you are looking for memorable visit to this beautiful city, I recommend a hotel downtown.

We stayed only one night at the Residence Inn out of our pre booked three nights because of the location, small breakfast room, noise from the freeway, poorly lit car park and all those stairs!
Would not stay again.

We were very please with the accomodations. My only complaint with any hotel/motel is that they do not "clean" their carpets. Walking around in white socks will soon show you how dirty the carpets are. They had a great breakfast, friendly staff and great rooms. I would recommend Residence Inn at the Lloyd Center to anyone going to Portland.

First time visitor to Residence Inn and I was very impressed.
Clean, large rooms with all the amenities. Staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast offered all the choices a restaurant would!- from fresh waffles to fruit and cereal, even eggs, biscuits and gravy.
Close to a many attractions, and safe for the single traveller. Highly recommended.
