Detailed Reviews
My sister and I happened on this motel by chance at the end of a very long day of driving. It's a delightfully quirky, little mom-and-pop place, adorned with Christmas lights, benches made out of skis, and a giant, concrete moose. It was exactly like staying in your granny's guest room that hasn't been redecorated since the mid-70's, complete with a Reader's Digest Condensed Book in the nightstand.
The room was well-used, but clean, quiet, and comfortable. It's also dog friendly, which was great for my mini Dachshund - he was welcomed with open arms. Oh, and be sure to walk up the street for breakfast at the North Powder Cafe Truck Stop the next morning.
If you're high-maintenance, you'll be miserable here. But if you're open to discovering hidden gems along the highways, I recommend the North Powder Motel to you.

Maybe not luxurious but for a night or two this place is just what you need. I slept good, and the hosts provided me with whatever i needed even in the late night hours! The room was clean and the shower was hot.

While the rooms may be dated and the exterior doesn't look like much, this motel was just perfect for what I needed: proximity to Pilcher Reservoir, hot shower, clean room, comfy bed, dog friendly, at a more than reasonable price. The owner Sung is very friendly and helpful and her personalized touch definitely was welcome in this age of faceless automation. And despite being dog friendly, there were no unpleasant canine odors in the room. The AC could have been a little cooler but I got a good night's rest all weekend long. The cleanliness of the room was outstanding and she even sent a handwritten thank you card after my stay. Will definitely stay here again if I pass this way in the future.

A great advantage of checking Yelp and Trip Advisor first is being able to find a place like this that isn't on Hotels.com. What can I say? I Go out of my way to check out a little place like this. Especially since the 3 prior reviews didn't actually tell me much and the only picture posted was the sign lit up at night.
We bypassed La Grand with its ample supply of normal hotels and came here because when I phoned to ask about a room the fellow cheerfully said he'd hold a room for me...like in the old days. I really had my fingers crossed that I'd like it. The finger crossing thing worked. I LOVE it.
It's clean. It's got everything including a comfortable bed. Room 8 has vinyl flooring instead of carpeting so ask if you have a preference. There is a tiny FRIDGE and a MICROWAVE and COFFEE MAKER. Even some shower goodies and soap. I think I paid $56. BARGAIN of the century. I hope they light the Christmas lights every night forever. It's awesome. Check out the BENCHES made out of old SKIS!
The owner is Sung. Pronounced SUNG...as in that song was sung by an angel. I wish we could have met her but she was away on a short trip so we met her son.
According to her eldest son Gene, she bought it 2 years ago as her retirement project. He is now helping her out. I love family run motels. ESPECIALLY when they are new owners in fix-up mode! It's just going to get better as time goes by.
I can also tell you that this place, like all wonderful old places, will always be a work in progress. It will keep Sung busily occupied through her retirement years! She owned a small restaurant before this. Hopefully she will consider possibly offering some home cooked goodies someday?
Gene is so nice. When he showed me the room, as we walked out he muttered something about "dusty" so when I came back, I thoroughly checked it out...I swiped the TOPS of everything. The only place I found dust was on top of the picture frame above the bed. I'm betting that after they read this, that picture will be clean as a whistle from now on! If it's not...when you stay in room 8...let me know! Gene...Post a reply when you get that dusted!
Even the fronts of both wall heaters were clean. That's a place that often gets missed.
The one quaint little issue is a lack of power outlet in the bathroom. Not easy to fix quickly. The only outlet is the dark 2 prong outlet on the light above the sink. BUT IT WORKS! So we could use our Waterpic...And we are charging our toothbrushes between the fridge and microwave where they provide a great power strip.
There are available wall outlets on both sides of the bed for phone charging. The bedroom wall heater has a thermostat on the opposite wall. The bathroom wall heater has a controller on it. Both heaters work as does the AC. The sheets are soft as are the towels and they provide soft plush blankets that make the bed feel like home.
Gene said there is a train track nearby but we have not heard a train yet. We arrived about 6 pm and it’s almost 11am. So perhaps it is not a frequently used track? I think my hearing is good!
The Wifi was just upgraded and is awesome in room 8. Gene said the router is actually across the parking lot so I imagine it's good everywhere but always check that out at check-in if that's an issue. See the speed test picture. Yes that's INSIDE room 8.
I want people to come and enjoy the charm of this sweet old fashioned place, ALONG with the great budget pricing. I love staying where the owners manage it themselves. It's just different. So if you expect modern upgraded perfection...don't come here. Stay at the big places along the way. COME HERE to step back in time and enjoy a one of a kind, sweet nights sleep, ALONG with the TRAVELERS CONVENIENCE of the LAUNDRY next door, & the COUNTRY STORE across the street. And if you're hungry you're in luck because the little NORTH POWDER CAFE is only a quick trot down the road a block. They serve a good BREAKFAST ALL DAY. See my review of the cafe to view their full menu.

Stayed here out of some desperation as all nearby rooms were booked for college graduation in nearby La Grande. There was hot water and a bed and the TV worked. And the toilet did flush. Yay for that. There were also towels from former guests as well as coffee grounds still in the coffee maker and the bugs who live off them. I did use the Clorox wipes I carry for situations like this. Need I say more?

We were riding bikes and this is the only hotel in North Powder. It is conveniently located near a popular dinner. When I turned the shower on about 50 sugar ants fell out of the faucet into the tub. The towels, sheets and bed spreads did not smell clean . The beds and bedding are old. Rooms are a decent size, heater and AC work. The doors are hard to lock, we had a strange man walk into our room in the middle of the night thinking it was his room.

I knew I was going to be tired after an end-of season ski day at ALMR, so reserved a room at the North Powder Motel on the recommendation of a co-worker. Front desk attendant was nice, price was right, as was the proximity to the ski area, but everything else was, lets just say, never again, but not quite enough for me to leave. Room smell was permeated with a combination of pine-sol and lysol to the point that my eyes were watering. Left the door open, bathroom exhaust and heat running, and front door open for about 2 hours to clear that up a bit. The very dried coffee pack in the coffee maker was not appreciated either. On the plus side, the WiFi service was pretty good.

Stayed here 3 nights whilst enjoying the power at Anthony. Decent motel. Room had TV, microwave, fridge, coffee, and of course a bed, which was decent. What more do you need after bombing down the mountain and through the trees all day at Anthony Lakes? It’s not a five star resort, but it is a reasonable accommodation close to the resort. Set your expectations realistically and go have fun.

Closest motel to Anthony Lakes Ski Resort. Very affordable motel. Traveling with our small dog appreciate their pet friendly policy and price. Comfortable double bed with twin bed in a corner nook. Clean room. Cozy decor. Old fashioned motel, updated with flat screen tv, wify, cable, and fridge, coffee maker and microwave. Had brought frozen lasagna and salad for dinner. Appreciated being able to eat dinner in room and not have to go out. Owner/ operator on site. Very friendly family atmosphere. Warm, comfy room after cold day skiing was very nice. Especially appreciated 50 % off coupon for Anthony Lakes ski resort. Will definitely come back again.

This is an older motel that has been kept up. Has microwave, fridge, TV, coffee maker and outside barbeque. Has about 12-14 units and is off the highway. It's 55 miles from nearest gas but at $50/nite a real bargain. There is a store in town but not much selection. Mike the owner let us use his key card to get gas and we paid him. Vickie checked us in and when store didn't have TV dinners she lent me a bowl to heat up dinner and have my cereal in the AM. Outside there is a covered area with picnic tables and nice new plastic lawn chairs.
