This motel is simply STINGY. There's no coffee or tea service in the rooms. There was no shampoo, just 3 tiny bars of soap. They Kleenex dispenser was empty. There were no cups. The towels were ancient and thin and the bathmat was stained.
There's a single coffee pot in the office but when I left at 7:10 a.m. and peeked in the office, it appeared closed.
Thankfully I'd been camping so I had both toilet paper and a gas camp cook stove in my car which I used in my room. I'm sure that would freak them out to know, but they left me no choice.
The sheet was on sideways -- I think it was a queen sheet on the king bed so it had to go sideways. The room was clean but it felt beat-up: pieces of molding had been chipped out, that sort of thing. The toilet and tub are 1960s-circa pink, which I find whimsical in a good way, and the toilet seat was newish, thankfully. But flushing the toilet required holding the handle down for at least 30 seconds. The water this old toilet is wasting could pay for an in-room coffee maker.
On the positive side: the bed was comfy. The frig was larger than many hotel frigs. The microwave worked well. The hot water was sufficient to not only shower but take a bath immediately afterward. (I'd been backpacking and needed a good soak, but first needed to get clean.)
I'm an Airbnb host so know how inexpensive it is to provide a coffee maker and some coffee and teas in a room. Ditto spare TP. The Royal Motor Inn was $89 plus tax ( $98), so was the least-spendy motel in town. I was exhausted so knew I'd sleep like a rock anywhere, so I chose this by price. For $100, they should supply spare TP, shampoo, cups, a $30 coffee maker, and slightly nicer towels.
I was right in the downtown area, which is nice.
We paid $85 for a night so for the price it was ok .The room was very dated and in need of a freshen up . Saying that the room seemed clean on first inspection thou we were greeted by a small beetle in the morning .The beds we’re comfortable. The location was great .
This is a Mom & Pop place in downtown La Grande. It is run by Frank and Debi Low. They are very friendly and have a nice, attention-loving cat and a small, energetic dog that hang around the front office. Luckily for pet allergic people like me, the motel rooms themselves are completely devoid of pet hair. Debi checked us in and was very friendly. Because so many of the restaurants were closed for Memorial Day, she also helped us find a place to eat dinner - a tiny burger shack about one block away ended up being the only place nearby that was open.
The motel room itself was pretty much what you would expect from a low cost, old motel. It was extremely basic, but nice inside and everything worked fine. The rooms do not come with alarm clocks, so we had to ask to borrow one from the office, but this was not a problem since they had many on hand. Although some of the furniture in the room was worn down, it wasn't depressing at all. The 2 photos of the inside of the rooms on their website make it look slightly nicer than reality, but the photo of the outside of the motel gives you an accurate idea of what the place is like. The sheets and towels were very clean and fresh. Cleaner than what I would expect at a Motel 8 or similarly priced motel. The only regret I have is that we got a room on the ground floor. The ceiling was extremely thin and we could hear everything going on in the bedroom above us late into the night. Even the footsteps of the people above us were magnified loudly. So, if you stay here, be sure to get a room on the second floor. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this motel. It is in a great location within downtown La Grande, relatively close to the University, and within walking distance of the movie theater and shops. Debi and Frank are very friendly, and the rooms are nice and clean at a great price.
