This is the first motel/hotel I've ever been where I ran out of toilet paper because the motel only supplied less than a half a roll. I did notice spare rolls in the office when I was checking in. But it was 6 a.m. when I needed TP and the office was closed.

This motel is simply STINGY. There's no coffee or tea service in the rooms. There was no shampoo, just 3 tiny bars of soap. They Kleenex dispenser was empty. There were no cups. The towels were ancient and thin and the bathmat was stained.

There's a single coffee pot in the office but when I left at 7:10 a.m. and peeked in the office, it appeared closed.

Thankfully I'd been camping so I had both toilet paper and a gas camp cook stove in my car which I used in my room. I'm sure that would freak them out to know, but they left me no choice.

The sheet was on sideways -- I think it was a queen sheet on the king bed so it had to go sideways. The room was clean but it felt beat-up: pieces of molding had been chipped out, that sort of thing. The toilet and tub are 1960s-circa pink, which I find whimsical in a good way, and the toilet seat was newish, thankfully. But flushing the toilet required holding the handle down for at least 30 seconds. The water this old toilet is wasting could pay for an in-room coffee maker.

On the positive side: the bed was comfy. The frig was larger than many hotel frigs. The microwave worked well. The hot water was sufficient to not only shower but take a bath immediately afterward. (I'd been backpacking and needed a good soak, but first needed to get clean.)

I'm an Airbnb host so know how inexpensive it is to provide a coffee maker and some coffee and teas in a room. Ditto spare TP. The Royal Motor Inn was $89 plus tax ( $98), so was the least-spendy motel in town. I was exhausted so knew I'd sleep like a rock anywhere, so I chose this by price. For $100, they should supply spare TP, shampoo, cups, a $30 coffee maker, and slightly nicer towels.

I searched for places right in La Grande, and was surprised at high prices for most who were connected with a chain. This is not a chain establishment, and seems to be kept well, in the area for overnight guests.
I was right in the downtown area, which is nice.

The title says it all. A very nice hotel with all the things we look for in a hotel while we travel. Clean room, smelled nice, comfortable bed, and best value in town. It's also right near the down town. Parking is tough though...we had to park on the street. I'd stay here again when passing through.

The room was not clean as advertised on the reader board outside. The bed was comfortable, but the sheets were old and stained. The walls were filthy. The housekeeper had to come and sweep the cobwebs from all around the ceiling and get rid of a spider. It is an older motel, and in disrepair. We appreciate a budget hotel, but cleanliness could go a long way. We should have left and rented another hotel room, but we were tired and it was late. I would not stay there again, unless they clean and repair it. It was not the cheapest room in town either. The staff was very nice and helpful.

This was the only vacancy in La Grande at midnight. Budget motel? On 8/2/22 it was $151.50 to lay quaking in fear on top of my own blanket on the bed. I wouldn't get into their bedding on a bet. All the linens were dirty and stained: towels with hairs, and fresh filth. The floor must not ever have been swept. Hairballs, dustballs, dead bugs, trash, and dirt. The cock roaches came out at dawn. Little black bugs. And non smoking room? There were many cigarette burns on the bathroom linoleum floor. When I returned the key at check out, I told her how horrible it was and I thought she should give me a refund. All she said in broken English is she wanted to show me other rooms. I was pressed for time and had to get going. I wish I'd just slept in my car in a rest area. The experience was awful and I just hope I didn't bring any bugs home with me. Their sign out front says"clean rooms". What a travestry! I figure these people who own Royal Motor Inn just prey on the desperate. It was late and I was falling asleep at the wheel. I had to stop driving. "A clean bed and some sleep." If only! I don't even think I was able to sleep 1 hour. Nightmare.

We checked in and then checked OUT. There was an old RV in the lot with people living in it and lots of permanent residents cooking outside on grills. The room had very old dirty looking furniture, a polyester bedspread, chipped bathtub, big hole in the window screen. Gross. And didn’t feel safe. Got our money back and left. Drove to Pendleton to stayed there instead.

Very noisy, could use repairs and deep clean. No alarm clock, coffee pot, shampoo, or cups to rinse your mouth with. Towels were stained and 2 flat pillows. Probably won't stay here again. Parking is very tight. Was told that there would be coffee at the office at 7 am. Door was locked and the coffee was not made. Could see the pot thru the door window. Do have to say the bed was comfortable.

Last minute stop off
We paid $85 for a night so for the price it was ok .The room was very dated and in need of a freshen up . Saying that the room seemed clean on first inspection thou we were greeted by a small beetle in the morning .The beds we’re comfortable. The location was great .

My husband experienced no shampoo nor towels here. He was tired and distracted and did not notice until the next morning when he wanted to shower. There was one hand towel and a used, dirty washcloth. He could feel grit on the floor under his feet in the bathroom. When he complained when checking out, nothing was done. The response back to him was “this is the cheapest place in town”. Totally unacceptable!

We stayed here on Memorial Day (May 31st), 2004. The entire town was pretty much deserted.

This is a Mom & Pop place in downtown La Grande. It is run by Frank and Debi Low. They are very friendly and have a nice, attention-loving cat and a small, energetic dog that hang around the front office. Luckily for pet allergic people like me, the motel rooms themselves are completely devoid of pet hair. Debi checked us in and was very friendly. Because so many of the restaurants were closed for Memorial Day, she also helped us find a place to eat dinner - a tiny burger shack about one block away ended up being the only place nearby that was open.

The motel room itself was pretty much what you would expect from a low cost, old motel. It was extremely basic, but nice inside and everything worked fine. The rooms do not come with alarm clocks, so we had to ask to borrow one from the office, but this was not a problem since they had many on hand. Although some of the furniture in the room was worn down, it wasn't depressing at all. The 2 photos of the inside of the rooms on their website make it look slightly nicer than reality, but the photo of the outside of the motel gives you an accurate idea of what the place is like. The sheets and towels were very clean and fresh. Cleaner than what I would expect at a Motel 8 or similarly priced motel. The only regret I have is that we got a room on the ground floor. The ceiling was extremely thin and we could hear everything going on in the bedroom above us late into the night. Even the footsteps of the people above us were magnified loudly. So, if you stay here, be sure to get a room on the second floor. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this motel. It is in a great location within downtown La Grande, relatively close to the University, and within walking distance of the movie theater and shops. Debi and Frank are very friendly, and the rooms are nice and clean at a great price.
