Detailed Reviews
Old world elegance complete with furnishings from a bygone era characterize the CGH. The restaurant and rooms are not inexpensive but the location overlooking the falls and the Columbia River are worth the higher prices. Restaurant food was delicious as well as pricey (although we did return a bowl of onion soup to the kitchen for having way too much pepper…and we like spicy foods). The 7 acre grounds are parklike and well-groomed. We reserved a corner Riverside king with fireplace that had lovely views and was spacious and comfortable. No train noises were noticeable as the tracks are on the garden side of the hotel. The live music by Toni and partner in the bar Saturday night was an enjoyable surprise featuring a diverse selection of songs with piano accompaniment. A short day trip to breathtaking Rowena Crest and hiking the Tom McCall Nature Sanctuary (overlooking canyons) made this one day stay very special.

Lovely room #336 facing the river. Bed was a queen with a slightly too soft mattress, but we slept very comfortably. Had to turn off the heat at night because the unit was too loud for sleeping. Bathroom huge and nicely redecorated. Loved the original elevator and the friendly staff who ran it frequently for me because I can't manage the stairs. Dinner in the dining room was delicious if a bit overpriced. Couldn't find any clock in the room until we were checking out and a pleasant lady remembered that they were hidden in the bottom drawer of the chest???? The electric fireplace was kind of cheezy for a room that was advertised as having a "fireplace".

A beautiful location on the edge of town in Hood River, the Columbia Gorge Hotel was a perfect weekend getaway for my wife and I. Just a minute off of I-84 for an easy and convenient find, this hotel was stunning the moment we laid eyes on it. The grounds were beautifully manicured with a lazy creek flowing through with ducks floating above. A creek which flows over the cliffs in which this hotel stands, Wah Gwin Gwin falls was stunning from every angle. Our room which overlooked the falls and the Columbia River was ideal with views that truly enchanted and engulfed the mind into an almost relaxed, meditation type state. Truly unwinding. Be sure to take your time here to enjoy everything this hotel has to offer, from the renowned Spa Remedease, the comical yet classy pianist during lounge hours, the smoked salmon sliders, and service that goes above and beyond what you would expect. Maybe a 3 star hotel by classification but 5 star service with 100 years of elegant history. A must stay in my book.

I have always wanted to stay here so my wife and I decided to book a couple of nights recently and showed up to a very tired old hotel that is getting no attention or love. Shame really,
The floors where dirty throughout the whole hotel lobby stairs hallways they obviously don’t believe in vacuuming. Cleanliness or on this case the lack there of should always be of concern to anyone. Since it could become a health problem I always look at floors bathrooms restaurant and common areas since I want the best and not want to worry about my health getting jeopardized.
The staff for the most part are not managed don’t care are argumentative and let’s face it lazy since there is no one staying there they could at least vacuum and they look bored. All except for one person who was at the counter a real joy and pleasant between his pleasantries and a decent bed I give it 2 stars, otherwise it would be one.
There is a long list of complaints that the proprietor has responded to but in my opinion does not care otherwise those problems would of been addressed and fixed. I did have a great massage (keep in mind spa is on the property but not affiliated.)
Going back to hood river in the future there are plenty of places worth staying at with much better accommodations and restaurant. While I am on this subject matter there restaurant is as tired as the hotel
Most appetizers are frozen out of a box like deep fried Mozzetta o sticks my breakfast was sausage and potato’s that where deep fried not cooked and out of a bag since they where still frozen in the middle.
This was a place at one time where dreams were made of 100s of weddings were held here. To all brides-to be, please check this place out first hand before you book your once in a lifetime event and spare yourself the grief.
I am sure the owner will rebut this complaint like he has all the others, he is a hotelier with a very checkered past and owns a bunch of smaller hotels he runs into the ground.he purchased this property out of bankruptcy in 2009 for 4 million dollars And is sucking it dry and not keeping this place up. The reviews speak for themselves what a shame to such a beautiful gem that could and did make many a dream come true.

A very gorgeous location located right on the river. That's the highlight of this hotel. The bocce ball court is a nice touch for something to do on a summer day. As far as the hotel itself goes, it's a bit dated and a little underwhelming compared to what I was expecting for a $480/night room (3 bedroom queen). Old rooms, beds aren't very comfortable, dated furniture, gloomy lighting, but it was tolerable, again the location is the main draw. The service however was the main reason for the low rating. I was there for my best friend's wedding and there were numerous issues. The honeymoon suite where the groomsmen were getting ready was still dirty from the people who stayed the previous night (we didn't get to the room until after noon, the hotel was well aware of the wedding and intention to use that room). Additionally at the wedding itself my friend had numerous issues from the hotel including staff being rude and pouring out drinks in front of them, essentially zero notice to when the music needed to be shutdown, having issues with agreed upon bar times and service (the hotel started charging people for drinks at one point when it was still supposed to be going on the wedding tab, which seemed quite odd). I understand it's weird times with COVID. Was everyone at the wedding following mask rules perfectly, especially after drinking? No. But if a business is going to stay open and be willing to host a wedding, there should've been better service than what there was. Multiple times I got the vibe that the hotel didn't even want to be open / serving food and drinks at all, so it was just a weird dynamic.

I am sorry that some of the procedures we have to follow has not been made clear to you and your party. Some of those come about after all arrangements made and we have to adjust for safety of all. We take pride in our service and if we fell short of showing that, we should do better. Thank you for sharing.

The hotel was a nice stay at a historic hotel. We don’t mind spending a lot for dinner but the hotel portions are a bit small ( especially the apple pie dessert) so we went to other local restaurants such as Stonehedge.
I think your dining room could have more crowds if you observed what other nice restaurants are portioning.
Can you put in larger trash cans in the rooms? The two room suite needs a larger shelf for the one bathroom for holding our toiletries.
I believed the maids are probably understaffed as it took awhile for them to get to our room but they do a great job once they are there.

My teenage son and I stopped off for one night at the Columbia Gorge Hotel on our way to the coast from Spokane. It's our tradition to stay in historic properties, and this one did not disappoint! Initially I was not pleased with the room we were given (selected a "Garden View" room but it overlooked the roof, not the garden. ) Stephanie at the front desk graciously switched our room to a lovely one overlooking the beautiful little stream outside, and was so kind about it (and she knows how to hand crank a 100 year old elevator!) The restaurant overlooked stunning scenery, but as we were on a budget, we purchased a picnic dinner at the local grocers and had a memorable alfresco meal on one of the bistro tables located in the beautiful front garden. Lovely, affordable find - we will definitely be back!

My husband and I spent our 12th Anniversary this year at this lovely historic hotel. We’ve been living in a 24 ft motorhome due to the Covid 19 virus for 3 months after arriving in OR from Belize. This was our first night spent in a motel and it was comfy! Dinner was wonderful, the staff was very careful serving and wore masks & gloves. Each table was well distanced & sanitized. I felt safe dining out!

A hotel that lives on a historical past and a stylish facade, but is tired and disappointing today. The bar area was unappealing, the main dining room soulless. The room had an uncomfortable, soft mattress, a TV that barely worked, an old fashioned AC unit that fired on and off all night, and a random empty fridge in the corner. We were there 3 nights and asked for our room to be cleaned only once - we were out all day from 8.00 and it was only when we returned at 4.30 there was a knock on the door to ask if we still wanted the room cleaned. Cheap shower gel barely emerged from an even cheaper dispenser on the shower wall. I might have forgiven some of this if the room had a basic tea and coffee making option. Hood River is lovely, but next time I will go for the basic offerings from the modern chain hotel, rather than this "piece of history"

There's designated parking near main entrance. Entering the hotel is on a flat surface. There's an elevator to floors with rooms. Access to dining areas is also on flat floors. I think I saw ADA compatible rooms when making my reservation. Hope this helps.
I don’t know - call the hotel to find out.
