We could not locate the unit with the instructions given and stopped by the management office for directions but there was a very rude lady who refused to provide any help because we did not book direct. But there was a very nice lady from the office that came out and gave us the right directions and a development map.
It would have been helpful if that map was also given as part of the check in instructions.
The unit itself was clean and everything worked except the wifi but it was quickly resolved the next day with a temp password once we called the management company for the unit.
Heating was great and all the appliances were working well including washer and dryer. A really comfortable stay and suitable for cooking meals for our family of 4.
Location is great and 10 min drive to TImberline for Skiing and government camp has a small grocery / gift store which we bought additional supplies..
I will definitely consider staying there again.
First let me tell you I am a picky traveler. I generally stay at the Westin, so I expect a lot from the places I stay at.
Collins Lake Resort is right next to Ski Bowl, where you can go tubing. They have a shuttle to Ski Bowl so you do not need a Snow Pass. They have a great outdoor pool that they have heated to 100 degrees.
#139 Chalet is very well kept up. It almost looks like they just recently updated it. The first floor has a garage that can park 2 cars. It also has the washer & dryer in the garage. It has a ping pong table in the garage. On the 2nd floor it has a powder bathroom, kitchen, dining room and living room with a flat panel TV. The back porch as a table & grill. You obviously cannot use the porch during the winter because of the piles of snow.
The 3rd level has 2 bedrooms. One bedroom has a queen bedroom, with a flat panel TV and bathroom (with a tub). The 2nd bedroom has 2 very nice bunkbeds and a twin bed in a large room. This room also has a tv. There is another bathroom on the 3rd level.
In the back of this Chalet they have a large hill that you can tube down or sled down, perfect for watching the kids right out your living room.
We are hoping we can get this Chalet again next year for Christmas.
We stayed here with another couple and a child. There was plenty of room for all of us. Checkin is at 4 pm, checkout at 11 am. They will set up a lock box if you are arriving after 5 PM.
It is pet friendly. You have to go down 1 1/2 flight of stairs to reach the nearest pet potty area. Those have doggie poop bags and receptacles.
We had a hard time keeping this unit under 75 degrees even with a blizzard outside. We set the thermostat at 69 and left the fireplaces off. We ended up having to open windows.
Only one window had blinds in the master. No blinds in the front window by the door or in the windows looking out the back balcony. The unit is very quiet. I couldn’t hear people upstairs.
Not a lot of seating in the main/front TV room. Only one loveseat and two chairs.
No TV in the queen bedroom. The closet had a lot of extra pillows. The master closet is walk in and had extra blankets as did the drawers in the kid bedroom.
Kid bedroom has a TV, Wii and trundle bed.
No cleaning supplies for just wiping a counter down or removing a stain in the carpet.
The WiFi logged us out every night. It was annoying to have to log back in. Otherwise it worked ok.
Nice kitchen with everything we needed. We brought Tupperware, ziplock bags and foil. The back balcony has a bbq we didn’t use. We couldn’t find the switch for the patio lights.
Wood floors were dirty even though we did not wear shoes in the house. Wiping with a paper towel came up dirty. Bring house shoes.
The unit comes with pool towels. The pool is in a building across from the lodge. The pool is warm and there is also a hot tub and sauna.
They allow for two cars in the parking garage per unit. It seems some abused that because there were no guest spots when we came back after skiing. We complained but the office said they would check it out but we had to leave a car outside overnight. They only provide two keys per unit. They are actual keys vs keycards.
Amenities included shampoo, conditioner and soap. I don’t remember seeing lotion or body wash. Good water pressure and plenty of hot water. Each bathroom had a full size hair dryer. No magnifying mirrors.
There is an elevator from the park garage and they have luggage carts to use.
The office in the pool house opens around 10:30 am so if you need something earlier, you have to go to the office by the townhomes about 1/4 mile down the road. With the VIP card you can get discounts on ski tickets and more if you buy at the office. It was also very convenient to have the shuttle stop right there. It’s very close to Ski Bowl West but not ski-in. You have to cross Hwy 26.
All and All, it was a great experience and we hope to do it again.
Thank you.
The front desk people were friendly and helpful and the person I spoke to when making my reservation was excellent. I accidentally left something behind and they found it and promptly mailed it to me.
The proximity to Portland is convenient which I'm sure is a big draw for weekender's. As a skier, it’s great having 3 ski areas within 3 – 15 minutes of this location as well.
Some comments regarding the specific unit we stayed in #H141 – and note that every unit is has different owners and furnishings. First of all, the unit was shown on their website as a 3 bedroom -- which it is not. It is a 2 bedroom + a loft. The unit was nicely decorated and the kitchen was well furnished.
The queen mattresses in this unit are terrible and the pillows are poor as well. The bed sheets were of rather poor quality as well.
The towels were generally in average to poor condition and some had bleach stains on them. And since the clubhouse with the pool and hot tubs did not supply towels, there were nowhere near enough towels either. Fortunately there is a washer and dryer which we utilized.
The door locks in 2 of the 3 bathrooms are broken and do not work.
The resort provided one 1.5 ounce container of shampoo for each shower and no conditioner (the shampoo was not a shampoo-conditioner combo either). With 6 people, we quickly ran out.
They also provide very cheap paper towels and tissue paper. Napkins were not provided either. This is just not what I would expect from a “resort”.
The TV's in the bedrooms are of poor quality – the one HD TV was in the master and has about an 18” screen and the picture quality is poor. The TV in the living room is better but the remote did not work even after swapping out the batteries.
The ping-pong table in the garage is totally broken and should just be thrown away.
And now for the one really big, disgusting exception... in the queen bedroom I went to grab an extra blanket out of the closet. When I picked it up and started to unfold it, the blanket was damp and had blood stains on it. Talk about disgusting -- and definitely a first for me. I called the front desk, was told housekeeping would come by and remove it.
Other than this one rather big sanitary issue, however, the unit was quite clean. If it wasn't for that disgusting detail, I'd have given the unit 4+ points for cleanliness.
The unit did have a nice washer and dryer in the heated garage, and as I said above, the unit very nicely decorated.
Would I stay at Collins Lake Resort again or recommend it to a friend? Only on a qualified basis: 1) I wouldn’t think about paying their rack rate and 2) Only if I was 100% certain about the bed quality. Not getting much sleep much is not fun.
Also note that Government Camp is a bit of a funky place, to say the least. It definitely does not have a traditional resort feel to it. This is more of a small mountain community that happens to be located near some ski areas. Dining options are quite limited -- if you like hamburgers all the time, you'll be in luck. There is no shopping in this town to speak of either.
Just know that Collins Lake Resort is not a resort like a Black Butte Ranch, Eagle Crest, or Sunriver. However, summertime up there could be great because there is an almost unlimited amount of outdoor activities available. If you make sure your expectations are in line with the offering, and know some specifics about the unit you are thinking about renting, Collins Lake can be a fun place to stay to stay.
