The Geiser Grand Hotel captivates guests with its historic charm and modern amenities, providing a unique atmosphere that many find praiseworthy. Spacious and comfortable rooms are popular among travelers, though there are mentions of maintenance issues and the need for more rigorous attention to cleanliness. While the staff receives mixed reviews, ranging from friendly to unprofessional, some guests feel the hotel's offerings do not justify the cost, citing overpriced services and inflexibility with cancellations.

We are in the agricultural business and needed to travel in the time of COVID; making traveling a unique experience. We have always wanted to stay at the Geiser and were very happy to hear they were open, practicing safe measuring. Everyone was so nice and helpful. For safety the hotel was at 50% capacity, food/beverage was all room brought to your room with no extra fees. Essentially, we had a chef and bartender our entire stay.

We had a fantastic time. I am really looking forward to staying there again.

We have stayed here twice and each time was wonderful . The old-world charm along with modern updates done in line with the original design makes for a very comfortable atmosphere. The staff are great. During our latest stay they were offering “in room” dining which was so welcome following driving 300-plus miles-jammies and slippers while enjoying a perfectly prepared prime rib!

My wife and I stayed for two nights in one of the Cupola Suites from July 22-23, 2021. The room was really lovely and decorated in a sumptuous late 19th/early 20th century style. We thought the dining area under the cupola was so nice, we ordered room service breakfasts both mornings. Our first night we ate in the dining area beneath the second floor balustrade. The servers were knowledgeable and very nice.
In response to the reviewer who mentioned the absence of hot water, that was definitely not an issue for us. I used the soaking tub both nights, and had to add a lot of cold water to make sure that I didn't get scorched.
We were very pleased with the service we received, and we recommend the Geiser Grand to any travelers going through NE Oregon.

After booking a king suite with a sofabed Online, I was told upon checking in that there was an extra charge for my kids. Nice way to start. They asked when I would like the bed made for the kids and I said that while we were at the dining room having dinner would be fine but that I could also do it myself. They insisted that only they could do the bed and said that during dinner was perfect. After dinner we went upstairs and the sofabed had not been prepared. I went downstairs and told them I would be happy to do it myself because my kids were tired and they told me that under no circumstances could they allow that, and that once the restaurant closed, someone would be up to do it. So my whole family waited for this person to finally come upstairs at 9:30 pm to make the bed and we were finally able to unwind, take our showers, and retire for the evening.
In the morning I decided to go downstairs to order room service so as to not wake my family with the phone call. After waiting 20 minutes at the server’s station and watching the lone server pass by me several times with no concern whatsoever, I decided to give up and return to my room. Then I tried calling room service since my family was waking and got an answering machine, then I called the front desk to see if I could order thru them (it is literally 10 feet from the restaurant) and she said no but could put me thru to the restaurant, which did not work and so I just gave up. 10 minutes later they called me back to take my order. I have to add that there were only 3 tables occupied at the breakfast area so busy they were not.
I understand that during these times of Covid we have to be flexible and understanding, but that should not impede good customer service.
Anyways, the impression I got from this hotel is that they think they are the local Ritz Carlton when actually it is just an old hotel with not much concern for their customers except to get their money. Will not be staying here again.
Final note: the air conditioning unit in our room was loud and turned on and off all night and would make a dripping sound for a few minutes after each time it turned off. Made our night less restful than expected. Normally I do not leave bad reviews if it is just one issue or detail that was not up to par, but this was one after another and I just felt a certain air of disdain coming from management when approached about the situations. Beware.

We are sorry you found so much at fault! Had you mentioned something to the front desk about your stay we would happily had made things right for you. However, saying it was great on the way out does not leave us any options to address your concerns! Yes, the restaurant was extra ordinarily busy with multiple room service requests. These take much longer for the server as they have to deliver to each room. A multi-million dollar restoration and expansion is currently in progress! All issues with noise will be addressed as soon as certain COVID restrictions ease for us to be able to complete the project. We are sorry the housekeeper was unable to complete your sleeper sofa on schedule, we have special toppers and linens that we use, thus the need for us to do it for you. We are working hard to navigate the stormy COVID seas.

What a horrible experience! My entire group booked a room, in fact 7 rooms, for the weekend of the normally scheduled Hell's Canyon Motorcycle Rally. Every single room, besides ours, was given a discounted room rate, after the rally was cancelled. After significant conversations with the hotel, they finally refunded the $60 that they charged me for an additional person, even though, the room when booked was for double occupancy. Again, every room rate, except ours, that's 6 other rooms were given a discounted room rate for the 3 nights that we stayed. We were required to use our credit card at check in, and the hotel has taken the liberty to charge us, with no offer of a refund, even when presented with a copy of our friends' bill. We also received an email from the hotel staff that "Had you refused to sign the registration form or chip your card, your check-in would not have been completed and the staff here would have been much happier." They claim they've done nothing wrong. My entire group spent quite a lot of money at this establishment, on a weekend that rendered Baker City a ghost town, with the cancelled rally. I've been told by hotel staff that I am no longer to be a guest here. No problem with me, as I never will book a room here again. You've lost my business...and the business of as many people that I can refer to not stay here. Never again. What a racket!!

The response sent to this guest: Thank you for giving me the opportunity to research the questions on hotel rates. You were checked in at the same rate that you booked. You were not part of any group or negotiated rates at any time. We did not know that you had any affiliation or friendship with ****** prior to your stay. Our staff worked hard to give all guests an awesome experience. Friends that you were traveling with raved about our service, however we tried, it seemed that we could not make you happy in any way. I do not believe that my staff or this Hotel did anything wrong. Still I would still like to make a gesture that will make it possible for you to happily stay with us in the future.

I was quite looking forward to staying at this quaint hotel in the mountains of Oregon. I knew the location was en route for my long drive from Denver to Seattle. And I was looking forward to staying at a nice place. Upon arrival, after a long day of travel, even though I had a confirmed reservation from hotels.com, the woman at the desk (quite nastily) informed me that my hotel room had been canceled. She told me the type of room I had booked was not available. And then informed me that if I wanted a room at all I had to pay an additional upgrade fee of $50. I was exhausted, so I paid the fee. When I raised the issue the next day with hotels.com, they were wonderful. However when they contacted the hotel, the facility completely lied about the experience. They said that I had requested the upgrade. Which was complete nonsense. My stay there was completely awful. You should never stay there. The people were unkind, unprofessional, and rude. I called for room service because I was hungry, and was told that food wasn’t available and I should call back a half an hour later. It was the culmination of an awful experience. You should avoid this hotel at all costs.

We are sorry you were disappointed with your booking experience with Hotels.com. Our staff cannot cancel or modify reservations booked on third party websites, despite what they might tell you. You also only paid $20 for your upgrade. We remain confused as to why you didn't communicate your displeasure when we showed you the options, or choose a different, less costly option.

On January 25th 2021 I was traveling across the North West on Business, thinking that Bake City and The Grand Geiser might be a good place to spend the night, I googled them while at dinner and called to make a reservation. The next morning, being ahead of schedule and facing a forecasted winter storm to impact Baker I made the decision to bi-pass Baker and make it home rather than getting caught. I called to cancel the reservation mid day on the 26th. The person answering the call acknowledged me canceling the reservation and that someone from the office would have to call me back. three hours west of Baker I receive the call that I will be charged a no show penalty fee of $118.00.
I travel this area on a regular basis and have stayed at the Grand Geiser on Three different occasions. I have recommended to friends and other business travelers to stay here even thought the restaurant is not very good and over the last two years overall service has really declined. Never have I dealt with a management staff that was so unreasonable to a past customer.

This review is provoked by the reviewers recent "cancel with penalty" and dissatisfaction with our cancellation policy, so we'd like to take the opportunity to address that here. Located in a small town in a rural area, the Hotel does indeed have an appropriate cancellation policy; we are as transparent on that as possible. It is posted on our website, verbally stated before requesting credit card details and emailed to the guest with their confirmation letter. When guests aren't sure of their travel plans, we urge them to wait and call us when they are clear. In events such as bad weather, our frequent guest's get full credit to use for a future stay.

An overpriced hotel with subpar service and a unfriendly manager. We were assigned a corner room on the 3rd floor that did not have WiFi signal. When I inquired, the service manager, Julie, told me to go to the hallway, get the WiFi signal, and go back to my room and the signal will follow me back, which was absurd and of course did not work, but she insisted it worked for other guests, and when I complained, she told me she had no other rooms available and suggested that I could check out and leave if I want, and it was 10pm at that time. A hotel called Grand Hotel, yet cannot afford to get a few Wifi extenders to ensure signals can reach every room is either not customer oriented or just incompetent to run a hospitality business. And a service manager who could only ask her customer "what do you want me to do?", yet had no interest in helping to find solutions should find another job.

Thank you for bringing the issue to our attention. Our IT department was able to solve the issue and take care of the WIFI signal blockage. Please be assured easy connection to our fiber optic internet is now available in our 4-Poster Suites. As the Hotel was completely booked, Julie was simply asking what she could do to make things right for you that evening. Moving rooms was not an option, but she could have found you alternate lodging and gave ideas that had worked for the other guest that had the same issue.

Today around 1:30 I stopped by the hotel to inquire about lodging for my son and I as I was unable to get an answer via the phone. I placed my mask on and walked into the hotel lobby. No one was at the front desk so while waiting for someone to show up I walked around the lobby as it was so beautiful. The whole time I kept my mask on as I always do while indoors. Someone came through a door to assist me, or so I thought. Instead I received a very unwelcoming tongue-thrashing for being at her hotel.. I was told Only registered guests were allowed and she abruptly demanded I leave. I tried to explain that I was wanting to inquire about a room. No, I had to leave because I was not registered. This person obviously has no “people” skills . I would
ask management to take a closer look at who you hire to run the front desk. Sadly, I care not to return. So sad to be treated so horribly.

Our staff is practicing social distancing and someone is always available by phone and ready to serve our guests when they ring the bell at the front desk. When the restaurant is closed no staff, guests or anyone wishing to "look" is allowed in the Palm Court under the strict guidelines set forth by COVID-19 restrictions. Had this person wished to inquire about rates or availability, they would have been invited to the desk where our friendly staff was happy to assist them. This person was not asked to leave the hotel, just the area currently closed under OR Health Authority guidelines.

Willing to pay nearly $300 for a luxury 4 star hotel experience in a historical hotel in rural Oregon? What makes a hotel 4 star? The service! What if I told you the service is horrible, the staff is rude, promises are unkept and the room you will stay in has worn and frayed furniture? As a bonus the general manager is unaccountable and unwilling to satisfactorily address concerns. Save yourself the $300, stay elsewhere while you enjoy the quaint town of Baker City. You can always pop into the Geiser Grand Hotel for ten minutes to check out the dining room and basement, that is all you really need to do.

The Palm Court, along with all of our rooms and public areas, are now “down” or out of use frequently as we execute our continual cleaning and disinfecting process. This guest was told prior to check in that the Palm Court would not be open for dining. Had we known that dining in the Palm Court was a condition of their stay here, we would not have proceeded with confirmation or check in. This guest wanted a credit, however they incurred no charges in the restaurant so there’s nothing to credit against. There was never any problem with the Hotel Suite or service until the guest did not receive the unreasonable demands they made.

Great breakfast menu is available from 7am daily. While not free, it is affordable. Popular examples: Huckleberry Pancakes, and Ten grain hot cereal $4.95. Really good coffee; organic sumatran locally roasted and fresh ground every pot. And room service is an option too.
