I stayed at the Travelodge in between two working days. I had the best night sleep for a long time. The room was very clean, not too hot and not too cold. Considering this was next to the A1(M) and next to the LGV parking area it was relatively quiet. The bed was comfortable and I had the best night sleep that I have had for a very long time.
Location is great. At the services on the A1. Free parking (make sure you give your car reg when checking in) although not loads of spaces and they were all really small. Check in was very good. Quick, efficient, friendly and all the information we could possibly need. The room was ok, but old and sparse. No plug sockets next to the bed, free wi-fi for only 30 mins a day (unless you pay extra) Very low water pressure in the sink and also the shower. Noisy with lorries driving in right next to the room Although the service was great, I think in future I would look for something a bit more modern or updated with free wi-fi.
Tidy room, friendly check in and decent shower, all that I need. Easy to find location, a no frlls place but perfectly clean and tidy with a comfy bed. It does exactly what you would expect and want from this type of hotel. ,
I paid an extra £20 for room amendments/cancellation when booking my stay in case I needed to amend the booking. A week before my stay I found out I needed to amend my booking from 2 nights to 1 night. I tried to amend my booking online but the system wasn't working and consistently came up with error messages saying there were no rooms available so I could not cancel. I then tried to phone the customer services helpline (as no email was available) even though it cost 13p a minute to call and I could not get through. My friend also tried to call but she could not get through either. When I arrived at the hotel to try and amend the booking the receptionist (Mandy) was lovely and let me borrow her phone to call customer services and cancel 1 of the nights I had booked. When I eventually got through, the man on the phone was incredibly rude and bluntly told me I was too late and could not cancel the booking even though I explained I had tried multiple times to cancel to no avail. I ended up paying £80 extra for a room I did not stay in. The customer service is truly shambolic and the fact there is no email to contact Travelodge (instead having to phone a number that costs 13p a minute) is abysmal. I will not be staying again. However, I will commend the ladies on reception who were very nice and went above and beyond to try and help us. The room was also clean. Therefore, this review is mainly a critique with Travelodge in general as opposed to the specific hotel. Travelodge must update their systems and make it easier for customers to contact them or customers end up out of pocket.…
Facilities were good, but postcode given to us by Travel Lodge e mail was for the southbound services, not Northbound. Ok for approaching North bound Travel Lodge on A 1 by using our common sense, however coming southbound to the services and needing to cross the Motorway, the postcode was useless because of restricted Motorway junction access.
We stayed for 2 nights as part of our trip to Beamish. The staff were very friendly and the rooms clean and comfortable. We were able to book rooms to accommodate a disabled dad and also our dog. It was a good base for the museum (about a 20 minutes drive away) and very close to the Angel of the North. Good food to be had at great Italian restaurant, Antico, a few hundred yards away and also a nearby Toby carvery ( both dog friendly). We would definitely use this as a base again.
Convenient stop over, noise level not as bad as I feared being so near the motorway. Wifi limited, but possible to tap into the MOTO wifi depending on where your room was. Generally clean, and welcoming reception staff.
After a failed attempt to stay in a campervan we were incredibly relieved and grateful to check into the Travelodge for 2 nights. Spacious room, comfy bed, hot water, soft fluffy towels and a cup of tea - everything we needed. Although located at a motorway service station we were not disturbed at all - even with the window open. Most of all we would like to comment on the exceptionally warm and friendly welcome we received from the receptionist Olga. We were desperate for a hot meal and not knowing the area at all Olga was so helpful - very kindly informing us of local amenities. Toby Carvery (which was absolutely lovely!) was just a 20minute walk away . We had our dog with us and we were allocated a downstairs room by the front door which made life much easier. The building was clean and smelt fresh, all staff were very friendly and accommodating to us all. Thankyou Travelodge we had a great stay made to feel valued by your wonderful employees, and all for a fantastic price!!…
It was a good choice for our family of four as the double bed and the two pulled out beds were very handy. It was good value for money. We stayed there on our way to Scotland. It was handy as it was close to the M1.
Excellent value Not to much road noise. Staff member was lovely and helpful. Room was clean and tidy and had all elements you will need plenty of worktop space. Bathroom clean and tidy. Easy to book and arrive at.
