The George Washington hotel (Situated in Washington in the North East of England but with apparent American links) has been a well known venue, hotel, golf course, party or wedding venue for years. We were there for a works Christmas party and had a good time. Food was lovely but would have liked more veg, the sweet was nice, but the cost of drinks even as a one off are ridiculous! Getting served was even harder!
We recently held an intimate, private family event at the George Washington Hotel and were delighted by the levels of professionalism, friendliness and efficiency of all staff we spoke with. Special mention must go to Amanda, Nish and Anthony. Every aspect of what we required was provided and refreshments were ideal. Fresh coffee & tea along with freshly made pastries. Although we did not stay overnight and simply required an appropriate meeting room, I can’t comment on bedrooms etc but if we needed to stay in the area again, we would not hesitate to look here first. Once again, thanks to Amanda, Nish & Anthony for making our brief time with you go so well.
Stayed here for two nights over a weekend in early November, we stayed in a privilege room over looking the golf course, it was a very large room with a lounge area, good value for money clean and tidy, with friendly and knowledgeable staff. The breakfast was buffet style with a great selection of choice, it was nice to eat proper black pudding again, good quality of food, it has a decent size swimming pool and Gym and would recommend this hotel to anyone
I was booked in here for one night whilst on business in the area and I must admit I was a little underwhelmed by the experience. The hotel is strangely laid out and somewhat soulless, with all the amenities at one end of the building. The bedrooms are spacious and although rather basic and tired, they are adequate for a one night stay. Unfortunately my bed was uncomfortable and in need of a new mattress and I was only able to use the hand-held shower attachment from the bath taps, as the wall mounted fixture didn't work. Talking to colleagues, this didn't seem to be the case in all rooms so maybe I was just unlucky - if I'd been staying longer, I would have asked to change rooms. Food and drink in the restaurant was okay although on the pricey side, but to be fair, the staff were friendly and efficient. I didn't bother with breakfast as it was overpriced at £17 a head and from colleagues' advice, not worth it. Overall, I thought my stay was average for the price paid and I came away feeling rather disappointed with the experience. Would I stay here again if returning to the area for business? Probably not I'm afraid.…
Very poor quality they couldn't even get a poached egg right it was cold ,waiting for the waiting staff to bring it too the table. Woken up after 2am with shouting and banging, complained. When address it yesterday morning said they couldn't find anyone making noise The shower head was terrible needed cleaning. The wardrobe inside was broken looked like it had been in there for 30years .the king size bed was made of two singles with no mattress topped. Shocking value for money
Visited the Montana spa yesterday, on arrival we were pointed to the changing room door and as we were getting changed realised that we had not been given a towel or robe- so we had to go out to the desk and ask for them. Pound coins are needed for the locker- but we did not have any change so was given only one token so we had to share the locker. 45 minutes is allocated in the pool area - when we entered the area was cold as all of the window the full length of the room were open..but we were luck enough to have it to ourselves. pool was wide enough for 2 people to swim side by side. Jacuzzi was the best-good size and very warm and powerful. We allowed 10 minutes for pool/sauna/jacuzzi but had no time for steam room. After getting into our robes we went for our treatment and was advised that the we needed to complete the customer questionnaire which was part of our treatment time which was disappointing. Treatments was supposed to be 2x1 hour- 1hr full body and 1xfacial and they were using Elemis products-great. The actual massage was disappointing in a number of ways, as it was more of a rub over than a massage, once the oils were applied then a glove was used and seem to remover the oils instead of letting oil soak in and work its magic. We both had a face mask applied the treatment girls left the room for what seemed a long length of time - we both thought about getting up to find them a few times - but without a watch not sure how long the time was that we were left. Previous places I have been they have worked on another part of the body. When the treatment ended- my hands and feet had not been done, the girl was happy to do my hands but it was only a rub of oil like putting hand cream on and not a massage. The package also included a lunch. The dining are was nice and comfortable and clean-service was good. The menu choice was mainly pizza or salad which had a had a number of supplementary charges. We both went for chips/colesaw/ salad and a meat (loads and tasty) in a sauce and a brioche bun, The first time we went before Covid it included a dessert which was priced at £7.00 which was no longer part of the package and the menu had not been updated. I would of been happier with less meat and a dessert. Drinks were extra. Overall it was disappointing so we won't go back again, the spa seemed to be run by 2 young girls who need to develop the massage technique.…
We stayed in one of the largest cleanest rooms I’ve seen, especially for the amount we paid. The breakfast room was luxurious and the variety of breakfast food was exemplary. Our stay was perfect due to the lovely staff, naming in particular Georgia (on reception) and Paul and Chris on breakfast duties, whose hospitality skills were exceptional
Golf course and the hotel have no communication at all so if your planning on a golf trip book golf separate and not through the hotel or golf break's so they don't do any communication with each other and we will definitely not be going back there as that's 2 years now that they have mixed our golf trip so would not recommend this place sorry but only telling the truth
On arrival at the hotel, we had a swift and easy check in. The room, on first glance, was nice (we stayed in a privilege room). However on closer inspection we noticed there was lots of hair and dust on that floor and around the room. Then I noticed a fag end under the side table. My partner reported this to reception and we were given 2 drinks vouchers and were told the cleaner would clean it in the morning. Fast Forward a few hours and it’s time for bed. As we pulled back the bedding, we noticed the sheet was stained with what looks like blood. This was reported to reception again. The member of staff was more than helpful and apologetic (this was 23/08/22, I didn’t get her name but we were very grateful for her help). This time we got further drinks vouchers and initially she just provided us with clean bedding but then offered us the bridal suite if we wanted so obviously I jumped at the chance of this. All in all it was an average experience because the cleanliness issues could have and should have been avoided but we can’t complain at how it was handled. Breakfast in the hotel was buffet style and was nice, just what you typically expect from a Mercure hotel.…
As we work away a lot, it was so nice to see such regular friendly faces, Martin, Kyle, Kieran and Robyn always greet us with smiles and always remembers what we want, quite often our drinks are ready for us before we get to the bar, they always recommend amazing food and all suggest what we can do while waiting for work through the day, if you ask me or any of us that work up here they all deserve a pay rise, the customer service it top quality and they all knows how to make the place feel like a home from home.
