Absolutely wonderful. From the exceptional warm welcome to the unreal Full English Breakfast, West Layton was a genuine privilege to stay with. The decor, ambience, tone and helpfulness is all perfectly balanced - felt like being at home but also really, really, special. A place run by people far more interested in their customers than anything else and I found that just so rare. I'll be returning without doubt.

Property's Favourite Review
WOW - West Layton Manor is just the nicest place we have ever stayed. From the warm and friendly welcome to the delicious breakfast - everything was perfect. Sherry, homemade cake and biscuits as well as a great coffee machine and tea tray with fresh milk which is always a bonus. Lovely decor, nice toiletries...the list goes on. When we returned from our evening meal in Richmond we sat in the quirky and cosy guest lounge with a lovely bottle of wine from the honesty bar - what a relaxing end to the day. Breakfast was gorgeous - loved the greek yoghurt with home made plum compote. All locally sourced ingredients and cooked to perfection. We will definitely be back

Can not fault this beautiful hotel, run by Sam and Hayley,so friendly and helpful and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. We stayed in The Lord Rokeby Room which was gorgeous. Four poster bed with throws, cushions and pillows. Lovely ensuite with bath and shower and luxury toiletries. Our room had views of the back of garden, where the resident ducks live. Lovely victoria sponge cake in our room and complimentary sherry too, such a lovely idea. Also provided was a kettle, espresso machine with an assortment of coffee pods, fridge with wine/champagne/fresh milk and water. Wine glasses and water glasses also provided. Everythng is super clean and tidy. We had our evening meal at a recommended pub called The Shoulder of Mutton at Middleton Tyas. Our meal was outstanding, thank you Sam for the recommendation. We finished our evening with a drink from the honesty bar back at the hotel, payable on check out,an assortment of drinks are provided, wine, beers and spirits. Breakfast was absolutely gorgeous,we had full English and was also offered croissants, toast and jams, yoghurt with fruit compote, raspberries and blueberries and granola. Fresh orange juice and coffee or tea also offered. We ended our stay with a walk around the garden and fed the resident ducks. We will definitely be returning to this beautiful hotel in hopefully the not too distant future where we look forward to having meal and drinks at the pub that Sam and Hayley are currently getting ready to open alongside running the hotel.

We stayed here on 24th November with another couple. We LOVED it! It is such a beautiful place to stay. Complementary cookies in the room, sherry and some gorgeous looking lemon drizzle cake which we didn’t eat because we were going out for something to eat (forgot to take it home with us the next day 😢). Jill could not have been more welcoming. Had a few good chats with her in passing and her husband (sorry I can’t remember his name) was the breakfast chef. After our meal at the Shoulder of Mutton Inn in nearby Middleton Tyas (highly recommended by the way - delicious food, friendly staff and lovely pub atmosphere) we headed back to the Manor to have a nightcap. No bar as such - it’s an honesty bar where you help yourself and pay for the drinks when you leave. I only ate a small brekkie of the yoghurt and plum compote and fruit (very tasty) as I’m not a big breakfast eater but the other three loved their more substantial breakfasts. We were speaking to Jill and her husband when we were leaving this morning and they mentioned the family have bought the The Bay Horse in nearby Ravensworth which is opening in December so we have already decided we are returning to this beautiful hotel next year and will be visiting the pub for a bevvy or two, just to be polite obviously! If you like to be made to feel at home when you have a night away then this place is for you.

We stayed two nights in the Francis Layton room. We found everything about the stay to be absolutely perfect, from the wonderful warm welcome and exceptionally attentive service to the characterful manor with so many special little touches. The breakfast was delicious and perfectly presented too. We highly recommend West Layton Manor and hope to visit again ourselves.

Loved the whole experience here. The little touches are what make the difference to any B&B, and there were too many to mention on our trip. Great food, location, and a warm welcome….will definitely be back!

A great place to stay, superbly kitted out to provide for every need and a lovely Victorian Manor House. Our room was decorated and furnished in keeping with the Manor and was very comfortable. The hosts were a pleasure to meet and the 2 course breakfast was so good it would be hard to better.
