We are locals and incredibly food fussy. Honestly that was one of the best Sunday roasts I have had the pleasure to devour! Totally generous portions with the option to have a second (massive) vegetable platter for free! Even a second helping of meat only costs £4.50. We have been waiting a long time for a professional chef to run this lovely pub and James is 100% on the button and his wife Becca delivers brilliant service. I’d travel quite a distance to eat their delicious food, so spread the word, we want them to stay for ever!!

Came in whilst travelling past. The pub was nicely decorated, the staff were lovely and attentive, and as someone who doesn’t usually eat masses of veg it was all delicious and cooked to perfection. Definitely perfected the art of a roast. 100% recommend to anyone

Stopped en route to a football match. Saturday lunch menu was short, but decent variety. Club sandwich and caesar salad were excellent. Chips were superb too. ONLY grumble is the awful tomato ketchup, cheap vinegary gloop served in a tiny egg cup. I thoroughly and honestly complimented the meal to the server but almost mentioned the dreadful tomato ketchup spoiled the chips!
So, definitely visit, but maybe take your own ketchup!

My partner and I visited this past week for 3 days…
We stayed in one of the rooms which was lovely.
Warm, clean, tidy and spacious.
The room was lovely and the bed was exceptionally comfy.
We also had an outdoor hot tub with the room which was delightful.
My partner being coeliac, the owner (James) provided a breakfast hamper in the morning at a time of our choice which catered for us perfectly.
The restaurant was lovely, with a great selection of wine, beers and a pool table!
Already planning on visiting again in summer to see what honiton has to offer in its peak season!

Booked here for a large family meal which the landlady happily accepted, but on arrival she made it quite apparent that she was stressed with the booking size. We ordered drinks from the bar as they didn’t have table service. A bottle of Pinot Grigio blush was ordered, but we’re served a white wine..she was adamant it was the blush wine and sent us away, until we pointed out that it said white wine on the back of the bottle. She then proceeded to blame her supplier rather than apologize for insulting our intelligence.
Two of the medium/rare steaks came out well done and were sent back, but we had to wait a further 20 minutes for the replacements, by which time the rest of the party had eaten. The two waiters were fantastic and worked very hard but were obviously being led by an unfriendly and unhelpful landlady and head chef.
When we left she didn’t thank us for our custom.
We bought our own desserts from Marks and Spencer’s on the way home as we were made to feel so unwelcome by the new owners.
Just to add, there were a few poorly tummies the next day - unsure if related?

We visited mid December and stayed in order to break up a journey to Dorset. The welcome was warm and informative and our pooch loved it there, so many new smells and people! Our room was comfortable, warm and spotless though the bed was small for us as we are used to a bigger one, it was very comfortable.
We went to the bar for pre meal drinks and the fire was roaring away. Service was really good and when we had our food that was tasty, well cooked and plenty of it. It snowed overnight which made it all the more magical. Breakfast was amazing too!
Cannot praise the staff enough, helpful and caring.
We will definitely be back on our next journey through.

Fabulous food, excellent bar, dog friendly, cosy, lovely rooms and it's all very good value.
The menu is honest, fresh and well prepared. The chef is extremely capable and served
We live near by and we have seen numerous attempts to get this place on the map.
This is truly a wonderful oasis along the A35.
(interesting fact: October 1805, this pub was a rest point on what is now the Trafalgar Way; the route of the naval messenger who brought rom Cadiz to London the news that Vice Admiral Lord Nelson had won the battle at Trafalgar. Regularly changing horses, John Lapenotiere made the dash from Falmouth to London in just 37 hours)

Please note this pub / hotel is currently shut and Booking.com are taking bookings! My husband and I arrived last night (9th August) after a 5.5 hour drive all excited for our weekend away with our jacuzzi room and apparently this hotel has been closed since June! We have paid and contacted Booking.com but as yet had no response so I am trying to save any fellow travellers the stress that we had last night trying to find a room for the weekend in August on the same day x The new owners are there so it may open soon but as their phone numbers and email don’t work it’s impossible to tell when that will be - they are turning booked guests away all the time and have told Booking.com but be aware - if you are in the same boat as us we managed to get the last room at The Greyhound Country Inn, Fenny Bridges and the people and food have been lovely - good luck fellow travellers but check before you leave!

We live local and heard some good reviews so thought we would try it out. There was no greeting from the bar staff on arrival. I asked for a ‘draft bitter’ and the bar person looked at me as if I was an alien. She had to ask a colleague what draft bitter was! When it was explained to her, it was poured but the barrel ran out and apparently it take 24 hrs to change a barrel so bitter was off. A Thatchers cider was ordered and that was off too. I ordered the prawns which were overcooked and burger and chips. The burger was okay, a little under done and the chips were soggy. The onion rings were good and the veggie burger was okay. Very disappointing. Probable will not go back.

Great hotel. Ended up here at the last minute as hotel on booking.com suddenly cancelled and left me in the lurch. Room was really nice - fresh milk (rather than those horrible cartons). All v clean. Staff were v friendly and helpful and food was nice.
One of those places that is spending a bit of time on the small things that many big hotels have just completely forgotten. Will stay again.
