Detailed Reviews
A big group of us absolutely loved the Villa Rothsay. The hotel is charming, with a unique Victorian character and decorated with fascinating nautical memorabilia. The rooms are lovely with great bathroom facilities.
The hotel is warm and inviting, and nothing is too much of an ask for the super friendly, helpful staff.
I really have to emphasise how wonderful the breakfast is here – so much selection, a brilliant full cooked breakfast with all the trimmings (loved the crispy potatoes!), fresh fruit salad and yoghurt, cereal, toast with local preserves, good coffee and tea. Service really was impeccable. Cheers to the chef!
Would definitely love to return to the hotel as a group! Thank you to everyone at Villa Rothsay!

We stayed at Villa Rothsay for a weekend to celebrate an anniversary. The public rooms in the main house are comfortably furnished, with high ceilings, period features and good views across the Solent. We were accommodated in the extension, which lacked the Victorian charm, but had a great good view. The 'honesty' bar is a great idea, but we were a little surprised to pay pub prices for a DIY pour of an average merlot. That said, our hostess was very generous in providing a bottle of fizz to help us celebrate and in driving us to the ferry terminal on a wet Monday morning. Overall, we would recommend.

Stayed in a balcony room, overlooking the Solent. Very well equipped room with a coffee maker and one of the most comfortable beds we have slept in. Lovely bedding and everything very clean. Best of all was the host, Margaret, who has a keen sense of humour and presents guests with the most wonderful breakfasts. As good as, if not better than any we have had in any UK hotel.

Room Tip: Balcony rooms are in a newer annex, connected to the house. Great views.

Really disappointing although staff very pleasant. Breakfast fine. Room reached by ascending metal “fire escape” steps followed by several descending stairways & certainly not the room used to advertise what was booked. Fusty smell was overpowering in the room. No fridge & no phone so a return trip via the stairways was necessary if anything was required. Despite daily room service for the four nights we were there the initial toiletries were never replenished. Would not recommend.

+1
We stayed at the Villa Rothsay last week for 2 nights. Our room classed as ‘Deluxe with balcony’ was located at extension via separate entrance with beautiful views from the balcony. The building, its historical contents, and furniture reflect the quality expected, and the breakfast was delicious and plentiful.
The room was a good size, but it fell far short in a few areas in terms of cleaning/upkeep. Wall from kettle to ceiling was marked (from steam?), chest of draws top was very dusty and draw liners were stained. The bathroom wasn’t clean and shoddily maintained, with fixtures chipped, mouldy and full of grime. The light pull string was filthy, unhygienic and would cost pennies to replace. Tiles around sink and toilet were not clean, shower door fittings mouldy, and extractor fan unbelievably dusty - at eye height so can’t be missed by anyone, including cleaning staff.
There is no sound insulation between floors. Every activity above us was heard: voices, creaking floorboards, sounds from their bathroom(!), pipe noises (like jet taking off) when shower/toilet used. I was woken up before 7am every morning!
Common areas need a good clean and refurbishment – ripped carpet, fraying rugs ‘fixed’ with duct tape in the dining room, dirty windows and mirrors covered with cobwebs.
Overall, we were very disappointed and feel ripped off considering we paid their top rate (£210 per night) for a ‘Deluxe room’.

We stayed here for a girly weekend and had a wonderful time. The hotel is steeped in history, charm and memorabilia. The rooms were spacious and clean and the beds so comfortable, slept like a log.
The quality and choice of breakfasts was varied and tasted delicious. Full English on Day 1 (fried bread and fried potatoes - heaven) and Eggs benedict for Day 2.
Margaret, Miranda and Jackie made us feel very welcome and we will be back - already book for September and this time bringing or friends
Cant recommend it highly enough

If you are looking for a modern hotel with all the bells and whistles this is not for you. If though you appreciate a bit of old world elegance with truly personal service to an excellent standard this is for you.
Our room (Rainbow)could have been bigger but it was spotlessly clean, the super king bed was wonderfully comfortable, but the winner was the view from the small balcony overlooking the Solent ( few better in Cowes I would think).
The owner Margaret manages the hotel in a very hands on but empathetic way. We were there for the day of the Queens funeral. Could have been a problem with most places closed but Margaret and her staff ensured her guests were able to experience the day without inconvenience.
The breakfasts are excellent good quality and choice. Served in the elegant dinning room with views over the Solent. The equally elegant lounge with a well stocked honesty bar is a delightful place to end an evening. The lounge suppers are also well worth trying.
It’s an easy walk down into Cowes along the promenade about ten minutes. The hotel is on a hill so it’s a bit a climb on the way back. There is adequate parking at the hotel but again the bottom car park requires a bit of a climb to get to the hotel but worth the effort.

Our short stay at the Villa Rothsay exceeded expectations. An unassuming outside led into a hotel full of nautical memorabilia, every space filled! Our room was light and airy and well equipped. Breakfast was cooked to order and the best hotel breakfast in ages. The dinner menu was limited but again cooked to order whilst we sat in the Drawing Room, drinks in hand, watching the boats in the Solent. The staff could not do enough for you so all very restful. Margaret was helpful with her tips on what to see in the local area and on our trip to Osborne House and we had a great time.
Will definitely be back if we return to the Isle of Wight.

We have been coming here for 25years and every year we are impressed! The rooms are immaculate and the hotel staff are so helpful, kind and always go the extra mile. The atmosphere in this hotel is so special and the rooms are gorgeously designed. The breakfasts are delicious and this is a no better place for our children to grow up. The view is spectacular and the personal touches in this hotel make this place so so special. The new room refurbishments are gorgeous and the housekeeping staff make up the rooms to the highest standard. The villa Rothesay team are the most amazing people and have made us feel so safe all these years. We are so grateful and cannot wait to come back again!!!

We just loved this hotel. We were in room 240, right in the roof, with a balcony that came out of the roof, over looking the Solent. Looking back we could see the chimneys. It felt like being in a Mary Poppins film Chim chiminey, Chim chiminey ........ The bed was glorious, so comfortable and the showers powerful and hot. What else do you need? Well breakfast, and that was everything you could imagine, from porridge to smoked haddock to a full English and more. We were in Covid conditions and felt very safe and sanitised! As you can see from the hotel photographs, they have lots of interesting ornaments and pictures. Central for Cowes and restaurants.

No, I'm afraid not. The hotel is a large house, so there are just stairs to the rooms as far as I can remember.
