The Solent Hotel and Spa garners praise for its cleanliness and the personalized touches that contribute to a comfortable atmosphere, though some guests feel certain areas could benefit from updating. While the spacious rooms are appreciated, there is feedback suggesting a need for modernization and better noise insulation. The staff's friendliness is acknowledged, but service can sometimes be slow and disorganized.
Amenities like the spa receive positive mentions, yet some visitors highlight problems with service speed and access. Finally, concerns are raised about the hotel's value, with guests pointing to costly extras and a breakfast that doesn't always meet expectations.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed overnight last night as we needed to attend a family funeral nearby.
There was a queue to check in at 5pm but once at the desk we were dealt with efficiently. Our room/suite looked fairly recently refurbished and was fairly clean. One of the flannels provided was marked and there was ‘something’ on the wall in the bathroom but other than that was spotless.
Nicely decorated and furnished. Fresh fruit, some biscuits and a couple of chocolates in the room. Couldn’t see a mini bar price list.
The fresh milk and cold water to be collected from machines in the corridor is a good idea.
Plenty of hot water available, towels and toiletries good quality. Bed comfortable.
We couldn’t get the heating on initially but a call at reception seemed to get that resolved quickly.
The bar is cozy warm as is the restaurant where we met family for dinner. The meals are quite pricy but everyone enjoyed their food.
We had breakfast at 8.45 and the restaurant was pretty quiet although we were told it was very busy earlier with a queue to be seated. It was explained there were no more tables available at that time which was why the queue had built up.
All in all a reasonable stay and would probably return again if in the area.

Since the end of lockdowns we have spent time in a few hotels and the quality has varied from poor to absolutely terrible. At last we have found a hotel that bucks the trend. My only complaint was that I couldn’t find anything to complain about (and I usually can) at least until the last day but more of that later.
Very easy to find not far from the M27 with sign posts, they only say “Hotel” but it is the only one. Car park close to the entrance which has a portico so that you can unload under cover. Pleasant reception staff, lifts that work and looks clean. In the room ( we had a four poster room) there were White Company cosmetics in the bathroom which had a bath with a good push button shower. In the bedroom there was a pillow menu plus even a small pillow refresher spray. Coffee pod machine plus instant coffee, tea, hot chocolate and biscuits. Most hotels provide a bottle or two of water and either milk powder or small cartons of UHT milk, not here. In the fridge we’re two glass carafes and in the corridor is a water dispenser and a fresh milk dispenser, great idea.
One comment, rooms could do with a bit more lighting, even with every light on they can be a bit dingy and a low level night light would be a nice touch.
The spa has a good sized pool, steam room, sauna and hot tub, towels supplied which combined with the robes that are in the bedroom makes it quite convenient.
Breakfast on the first day (Friday) was all table service and prompt, I had Eggs Royale which was excellent. This brings me to my one complaint, breakfast on the Saturday was a let down. Now gone to buffet for cold items, which is fine, but the hot items were disappointing. They advertise a “Northern Breakfast” ( odd since you can’t get much further south) eggs overcooked, low quality bacon, tough sausage, a mushroom, a bit of black pudding and indifferent service is not worth the ridiculous price charged. OK so there was a Hen party, a wedding and a football team in that day but since our breakfast time was scheduled it should be possible to organise things to maintain the standard.
Overall a great hotel and a lovely stay spoiled a little by the last morning, note to selves, book our weekends away in the middle of the week and avoid Saturdays.

The hotel itself was lovely, the staff couldn’t do enough to ensure we had a lovely stay. We arrived to find birthday gifts and messages in our room for our soon to be 6 year old. It was a really nice touch. We then went to use the pool area with our daughters and found it really clean and comfortable. We had a short wait before we went in as it was busy but it was only 5 minutes or so. The drinks service around the pool was great and the spa services we used (steam room and sauna) were lovely.
Back to the room for get washed and changed for dinner. The room was set up to sleep the 4 of us (one double bed and one sofa bed) which was very nice and still spacious. The room could’ve done with a deep clean as it was a bit dusty in places, but the bedding and bathroom, floors etc were fine. The fridge with the empty bottles to fill up with fresh milk and water from the dispensers in the hallway were a nice touch, as was the coffee machine.
Heading down to dinner and that’s what lets this hotel down. The service in the restaurant is excellent, if a little slow. It’s a bit more on the pricy side but we expected that as staying in a hotel is a treat. Unfortunately, some of the food didn’t live up to expectations. We had either delicious food but tiny portions (£28 for a small piece of sea bass, 3 clams and 6 mussels - it was delicious but very small for the price paid), or in the case of my daughter, food so heavily fried it was inedible. The staff were understanding and refunded us for my daughters meal. Unfortunately it was the same situation at breakfast - food took a long time to arrive and when it did it was cold and in the case of my vegetarian breakfast, fried so much that some parts were rock solid. Our server did offer to replace the meal but we declined, we didn’t want to cause an issue and after our experience we thought it would likely be the same. My husbands cooked breakfast was also cold, but our daughters’ waffles were fine and they enjoyed them. We tried to cancel breakfast reservations but as we had prepaid via our booking method (hotels.com) the front of house staff were unable to process a refund. I can’t commend the staff at the hotel enough, they are helpful and friendly. It’s not their fault the food was hit and (very) miss. Perhaps with a new chef or food prep process/menu the restaurant could match the high standards the hotel has to offer. We’d stay again, but would eat at one of the many restaurants locally.

I have stayed at the Solent Hotel & Spa before and I found it really pleasant. However, my colleagues who stayed the night before I did said that they had to queue for 15 minutes just to get breakfast… Even though the hotel has apparently recently changed it from 'cooked to order' to a buffet style breakfast.
I don't mind waiting for breakfast when it's cooked to order but why should people have to wait 15 minutes just to get a breakfast table at 8am just so the staff can check a name off a list and allocate a table for a buffet? (There are many, many tables in the restaurant and also the bar area, so this is completely unacceptable.) If you have a busy business hotel, you need to be able to seat people quickly for a buffet breakfast on a weekday... This is not a leisure hotel where people will be happy to have a long, languorous, late breakfast. This is a hotel on a business park where most people need to get off to meetings and such like, so being made to wait 15 minutes just to be seated for your breakfast here is totally unacceptable.
I arrived to check in at the hotel this and had to wait in a queue of five people because there was only one person at the check in desk at 5pm. This is of course a peak time for check-ins and if your hotel is busy and you're taking everybody's money, you need to staff the front desk appropriately. I had stand and wait for over 12 minutes just to check in. This doesn't sound a lot but it is when you're standing there after a long day at work waiting with your bags.
Later in the evening, I tried to call down to reception and the phone rang and rang and and then went to a voicemail saying "the mailbox of the person you are calling is currently full and cannot accept new". I therefore tried called the room service number and similarly got a voicemail saying that the number could not be reached. It was 7:30pm.
If you're going to take customer's money and fill your hotel, you need to staff it accordingly so that you can look after the people that have booked.

We stay here almost every Christmas at great expense, we stayed in May 2024 and was greeted by a receptionist who i felt wasn’t interested in helping, she said as we booked through booking.com we couldn’t use the swimming pool or the gym i mean why what for more money?? Surely she if you book a stay here that should be automatically in with the price? The hotel serves a lovely breakfast and isn’t poor by far however it needs to go back to being a buffet and not an un organised experience with skimping potions also rooms and bathrooms need refurbing asap

Thank you for reviewing your recent stay with us. I am sorry that this stay did not live up to the expectations set following your festive stays and that this prompted your first review of our Hotel. We do strongly recommend booking directly with our inhouse reservations team, particularly as a regular guest. All direct bookings enjoy complimentary spa access during your stay, it is correct that is booking via a third party, such as Booking.com, there is an additional charge, this information is detailed on all appropriate third party sites. Booking direct also ensures our team can discuss your personal preferences with regards to room decor and ensure appropriate advice is given in relation to the many room types available at the Hotel. We hope to welcome you back to the hotel in the future. Best wishes Nathan

This was a lovely hotel and spa, however what let it down was the staff and the service. I paid £198 for one room, and a one night stay. I also paid £70 for afternoon tea, despite me being quoted £50 on the phone. I explained on the phone that I was coming with my two young daughters. Breakfast was included in the £198.
Upon our arrival in the room the TV was not working and there was only two adult size dressing gowns and then one baby dressing gown. This did not feel like a personal experience, as I had already explained that I was coming with my two young daughters. Therefore I asked the cleaner who was just down the corridor if I could have another adult dressing gown. The cleaner rolled her eyes and sighed. When I spoke to reception about the TV, they sent a young lad up to our room. He then rudely told us that we would have to sort it out ourselves as he was not prepared to take it off the wall.
The spa itself was lovely, but there was no treatments available as they were fully booked, which was our fault really as we should have prepared. However they did not help us to try and get booked in anyway.
In the morning, a member of the cleaning team opened our bedroom door without knocking and just walked in! We were still in the room!
During breakfast, I explained that I am lactose intolerant, so am unable to have dairy, yet they repeatedly kept bringing me out dairy butter and had no regards to my dietary requirements. When I asked for a pot of tea, which was part of BREAKFAST, the staff members huffed and rolled their eyes. They made me feel so embarrassed and awkward. I just wanted to leave at this point.
We went for afternoon tea and again the staff were rude, and we felt that they were trying to hurry us out. They did not communicate well with us during this.
All in all this was a lovely hotel, however the staff and management of the hotel truely let it down. I have never been made to feel so embarrassed and awakard by members of staff.

Not great. The room was a very good size but the decor looked like something from the 80s. The spa area looked nice and modern as well as the bar but I had to double check the price of the drinks £25 for 2 rum and cokes and the same for 2 espresso martinis

Thank you for reviewing your stay, I'm sorry you were disappointed with the style of your room. With 117 rooms available the hotel offers a variety of styles to suit all tastes, although these are illustrated on the hotel website we do strongly encourage guests who have a personal preference to book via our inhouse reservations team who are more than happy to discuss individual requirements and make personal recommendations to ensure a comfortable stay. I do hope you will choose to stay with us again in the future. Best wishes, Nathan

We were part of a huge wedding group (40ish) and personally paid for four rooms for 2 nights. We booked a year in advance and were looking forward to using the spa and facilities. However, we were told a few months ago that the spa would be out of action but there would not be a discount. We also paid extra for 6 breakfasts. We leaned when we arrived that some of guests got a reduced rate for the spa not being available and some had breakfast included in their rate. We therefore asked for a discount on our rooms. We were told this was not possible and were only offered a 20% discount on the first nights meal (food only - worth £20 to us as we had already booked the restaurant). The moral of the story is don't book a long way ahead because even though it is good for their business planning/model it does not benefit the customer. As for the room, it was ok but a bit tired (imagine 1990s decor/fixtures). Some other rooms have been updated. The tea/coffee was lacking (no sugar). The breakfast at £19 was very poor value - a very average cooked breakfast with undercooked bacon and it was only luke warm. It did not seem like it was cooked to order. The toast was cold and soggy. The bar area is pleasant and the staff were friendly, but the service was slow. Will not be returning as there are better options for the same cost locally. Many of our large party felt the same. This was a missed opportunity for the hotel.

Thank you for reviewing your stay, I'm sorry that you were disappointed. Our swimming pool reopened just before Christmas following it's refurbishment, regrettably these works would not have been confirmed at the time you made your reservation and I'm pleased to see that the team contacted you as soon as we were aware of this. We do offer rates which have breakfast included, if attending events here at the hotel there are often preferential rates available which offer great value, it's not clear how you made your reservations but we do encourage guests to speak with our reservations team directly to ensure the best package and room type are booked. I do hope you will reconsider staying with us again in the future. Best wishes, Nathan

Spa: half the spa facilities were shut on the first day we tried to use it. Staff also took the cushions off all the chairs during our visit, which meant there was nowhere even to sit. As it was 2pm, this was an odd and inconvenient time to have to do this.
Restaurant: waited 50 minutes for breakfast on the first day; we were then served grey bacon (no exaggeration). On the second morning we were told we couldn’t eat breakfast in the dining hall and had to choose from a very limited room service menu. When this room service breakfast arrived, it was very poor quality. The bar staff seemed clueless and did not know about the most basic drinks.
Cleanliness: very poor and the hotel was infested with silverfish , which are impossible to get rid of. The cleaners were rude and completely ignored our requests
Room: The inadequate shower curtain and positioning of the shower meant the bathroom flooded every time the shower was used
Staff: many members of staff could not answer basic queries and were incredibly unhelpful. When I asked a member of staff at reception what time bar food was served to, she told me she didn’t know and gestured that I must go across to the bar (in swimwear) to find out
Restaurant: waited 50 minutes for breakfast on the first day; we were then served grey bacon (no exaggeration).

We visited The Solent Hotel for a spa day. We were disappointed with our experience! We were booked in for 10am, on arrival into the pool area we quickly realised there was nowhere to sit and relax as you’d expect in a spa ! It was too busy !! There are only 9 loungers in the whole pool area otherwise it’s bench seats and tables and chairs ! Not relaxing and tranquil!!! The relaxation room is too small and was very overcrowded! People sharing seats ! They are clearly booking in too many people ! On top of that by the afternoon the pool area was full to capacity and with lots of children ! Obviously the pool area is open to hotel guests also!
We all enjoyed our treatments though. No complaints there.
The 2 course lunch included in our spa day was very nice but service was slow.
A supplement is charged on a weekend but I’m not sure why as it’s so busy that you are not getting the full spa experience.
Our party all agreed we would not return here for a spa day. There are better spa’s in the area.

Our stay was nothing to do with any cruise package! I have made no mention of anything related to that particular topic.
The menu is quite informative but one of the restaurant staff seems to be fully trained as regards allergies but I’d let them know beforehand just to be sure
Certainly in the room we were allocated. However If you contact the hotel direct and explain your needs they are exceptionally accommodating.
As preciously indicated no charge if booked with hotel.
Depends if you book BB (Bed and Breakfast) rate or RO (room only) rate.
