We booked a short break at The Solent to use as a base for us going to Paultons Park. Unfortunately they didn't have any rooms for a family of 5 when we booked so had to book a family room for 1 adult and 2 children and a twin room for 1 adult and 1 child. We didn't end up using the twin room at all as a cot was put in the family room for our 2 year old as well as a sofa bed for the kids so we all fit in there with plenty of room for our things, it did seem like a waste of money but we did know this at the time of booking. The staff were very friendly and there was hand sanitiser dotted all over the place so we felt very safe. The room/s we had were very spacious and the little walk around the grounds was great to stretch our legs. We ate in the restaurant on our first night and the food was delicious, and as it was a Monday it was included in the eat out to help out scheme so only cost us half of the bill. The other 2 evenings we was there the restaurant was fully booked, there is a shopping centre just down the road with lots of food outlets if this happens, so we ordered room service which was equally as nice as in the restaurant but it was not included in the eat out to help out, I assume as it was delivered to us. The only negative that we have was the breakfast that we paid for didn't seem value for money, however it hasn't put us off returning if we are ever in the area again. We didn't use the spa or pool however we was asked if I would like to book into it via phone call before we arrived.

I booked the Elton tribute night for 19 of us to celebrate my granddaughters 18th with an overnight stay. We were met at reception by a very helpful lady and when we found our rooms they were clean tidy and with everything we needed , irons, hairdryer, comfortable bed and pillows kettle, teas coffee fresh milk. We wished to decorate the tables and the gentleman in charge there was very helpfuland helped us decorate. The evening was a success and everyone loved the meal. Breakfast the next morning was a bit of a shambles getting a table and the lady who was sorting the tables was a little abrupt and unhelpful at first wanting to split the party onto small tables away from one another , but eventually we were shown a table together and the breakfast buffet was lovely with a wide selection. A young family were shown a table well away from the buffet food and like us he had to argue to get another table saying with a toddler and a very small baby he would hope that he would be placed very close to the food section to enable them to watch the children and get food quickly. The waiter and waitresses were however very helpful.such a shame other wise we could not fault this lovely hotel.

On arrival when we tried to check in at 3pm which was the stated check in time. We were told that our room was not ready and could we go to the bar where we would be given a complementary drink due to having to wait an extra half an hour, however it turned out to not be complementary and we in fact had to pay for it. After 35 minutes we then returned to reception to see if there was any developments on the room and were then told it was ready despite being told that they would come and find us.

After check in, we thought we could go to the spa, little did we know that you had to book slots in advance for access to any of the facilities despite trying to phone before to book treatments. The only time that was offered was after our check out time the following day. A little information/ guidance on the website would have maybe been helpful.

When we arrived for breakfast the following morning, we were told that we would be given breakfast menus, these took a very long time to arrive and service was not the swiftest. No cutlery was given and was only given when asked meaning that we could not help ourself to the yogurts etc available. Our breakfasts then arrived, the toast being forgotten and had no opportunity to ask a member of staff due to none being around to ask.

All in all, a slight disappointment not what you would expect from a four star hotel.

We had a nice stay at Solent Hotel and Spa. We stayed in a family room for 2 nights with breakfast included. The room was nice and modern and bed was very comfy. Only complaint would be that we were on the second floor and woken up at 6:30 both Saturday and Sunday by a toddler crying in the room above us. I don’t know if we were unfortunate as I haven’t seen any other people say about hearing others from their rooms. We could hear them walking around in the morning as well as hear the water from the tap running every time it was turned on! We could also hear the door slamming each time they closed it.

Breakfast was lovely with a nice choice of continental and full English. The first morning our waitress was very attentive and went the menu with us and told us about the special, however the second morning our waitress was less attentive and we had a much longer wait, even though we ate at the same time each morning.

I would definitely stay again, however I would recommend asking for a room on the top floor to avoid the same situation of being woken up at 6:30 on a Sunday!

My daughter and I stayed here last night, and could not fault a thing from start to finish, all staff were extremely efficient, friendly and welcoming. Nothing to much bother. The hotel itself and our room was spotless, well equipped with everything you would need down to fresh milk at the end of the corridor and water that you help yourself to. Very good coffee machine in room too! We slept so well, room was quiet, bedding fresh and comfy with a great mattress topper!! Dressing gowns and slippers in room a nice added bonus! And lovely big bath sheets! We ate in the restaurant in the evening, and service again was fabulous, friendly and informative and food itself delicious! Cocktails in the bar..perfect!! Breakfast equally as good with lots of fresh produce, everything you could want!
The gym was nice with a choice of equipment, didn’t use the swimming pool or spa but it looked lovely!
Also lots of parking available!
All in all a lovely find and we will be back!

My partner and I visited Solent back in December between lockowns for 2 nights and it did not disappoint.

The hotel is relatively small and intimate which we found surprising on arrival, but we really liked the charm of it, it's different and you feel so welcome from start to finish. I also liked that all staff wore similar striped uniforms, it has a warm feeling.

The bathroom in the bedroom was verging on 3* due to being a bit worn and very basic, but it served its purpose. Room service was great, housekeeping were also very helpful with replacing towels, robes etc. I also really liked the concept of the water/milk dispensers in the corridors to help yourself.

The spa facilities were great, we had plenty of use of the steam room and sauna too as well as the pool which is huge. We paid for private use of the hot tub which was nice because it was private with a great view.

The food was outstanding, we really enjoyed the live entertainment in the restaurant on the Saturday night, it really made it a memorable evening. Breakfast both mornings were amazing, so much to choose from and something for everyone, despite the pandemic!

Overall a fabulous hotel and would definitely recommend!

We stayed for one night and to be frank, we’re relieved to leave. Our room was extremely tired and hadn’t been cleaned properly. There was litter under children’s bunk beds and children’s writing on the wall above the bunk beds. In the current environment, it just isn’t acceptable to have rooms that are not cleaned properly.

In addition, whilst in the hotel I noticed that the hand wash in the men’s toilets was empty. I notified the employee in the leisure club who said she would arrange for them to be replaced. Around four hours later I used the bathrooms again and found that neither of the hand wash dispensers has been refilled or replaced.

Before our departure on bank holiday Monday we stayed for breakfast. I have to say that this was a really worrying experience. Having worked on making my own company workplace Covid secure, I have to say the dining area was almost the opposite. The doors from the kitchen to the restaurant are filthy and look like they haven’t been cleaned for several months. These doors must be one of the highest touch areas in your building and are filthy. They should be cleaned frequently to be Covid secure. In addition there are multiple high touch areas such as the orange and apple juice dispensers which I didn’t see being cleaned at all.

Frankly, the stay was really disappointing and concerning. I really do fear for your staff and other customers given the lack of interest in keeping the hotel clean and Covid secure.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your recent stay with us, I really am sorry to read that it wasn’t the most positive one. I can ensure you that the hotel is COVID secure and that we as a hotel team have all measures in place to make sure the hotel is COVID secure for both guests and hotel team members. In all areas of the hotel we have in place 30 minute cleaning procedures for all touch points, this also does include the buffet area in which the juice dispensers are kept. In saying all this, I can only apologies for the housekeeping issue with your room, please note this has been investigated with my Housekeeping manager and her team and is unacceptable on our part. Whilst I wish you had a better experience, we will use your comments to improve and ensure we deliver exceptional service for all future guests. I would value the opportunity to welcome you back and I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the warmest of welcomes and a relaxing experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of. My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights having booked the hotel through Secret Escapes. I'll start with the good points.

The communal areas were stylish and spacious. The staff were friendly and breakfast was very nice indeed. I enjoyed a treatment at the spa which was excellent and the spa staff and facilities were lovely. Our room was spacious with a double bed, sofa and plenty of floor space. There was a complimentary bottle of rose in the fridge too.

However, the room was not as clean as it could be. The carpet was stained, there was hair on the bathroom tiles and the TV remote control was caked in dirt and what looked liked food. At a time when hygiene is of the upmost importance, this was pretty poor. When we arrived I made myself a coffee but on opening the milk it was sour and obviously off.

We were told that the room would not be cleaned while we were there which was disappointing but understandable at the current time. We were also told we would receive fresh towels and toiletries every other day and these would be left outside our room. However we did not receive any fresh towels or toiletries during our whole stay. We ended up purchasing toiletries ourselves (toilet roll and shower gel) and my husband had to ask for fresh towels.

Overall we were disappointed with the hotel. Even given the restrictions of Covid, things could have been better.

I stayed at this wonderful hotel with my 2 young daughters in a family room on January 2nd.
As soon as you walk in , the hotel has a cosy homely feel but what makes this hotel outstanding are the staff , food and extra little touches you don’t get in other hotels .
Firstly on entering our room were VIP little dressing gowns for my children on their beds as well as a homemade cookie each .
Furthermore were some snacks and a drink left in the fridge as well as fresh milk and water you can help yourself to along the corridors.
Absolutely brilliant idea and the kids really appreciated this as did I for my coffee from the coffee machine in the room :-)
Swimming pool was very busy and noisy with lots of kids however clean and everyone happy .
Within the package I booked , were dinner and breakfast and I have to mention the delicious food .
The presentation and quality would rival any high end restaurant but mostly I would like to mention our incredible waiter Billy .
Someone give this man a promotion !! He was absolutely charming and professional, a total asset to this hotel . Whoever Is in charge of recruitment and training are doing all the right things .
Breakfast also didn’t disappoint with the food and service at such a high standard again .
On checkout I mentioned a couple of issues I found with the room which were handled well and fairly . Problems sometimes arise but it’s how it’s dealt with that makes all the difference .
I would personally like to thank every member of staff we had the pleasure of coming into contact with for giving us such a relaxing memorable stay .
If anyone is thinking of booking this hotel don’t hesitate, it’s such great value for money for what you receive which is very rare these days .
Looking forward to staying again very soon and this will always be my number 1 hotel when visiting the area.

The welcome from the log fire was as warm as the friendly Check -in.Bonnie was friendly and efficient and gave us all the information we needed for an enjoyable stay.Soon we were in our recently renovated Signature room .We loved the fresh decor and settled on the settee in our room for a cup of Earl grey with some delightful Strawberry and Champagne shortbread complimentary from the hotel. We were delighted with the milk and water jugs to top up from the corridor ,a unique feature !
We enjoyed a drink from the bar and cannot fault the extremely friendly service, nothing was too much trouble even the offer to top up with logs on the fire .The bar was beautifully decorated for xmas and added to our sense of contentment.
Later we could snuggle up in our fluffy robes and slippers for a good nights sleep.
Breakfast was tasty and varied complemented with good service .
Before check out my husband enjoyed the use of the leisure facilities and remarked on the high standard of cleanliness .He was particular impressed by the number of the loungers to relax by the good sized pool and the modernised steam room and sauna.
Located within walking distance to a good shopping centre and with plenty of parking to drive to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.South Downs or New Fforest we were delighted to have this little gem on our doorstep.
