Afternoon tea for my mum’s 80th birthday. Welcome was ok (not great), food was very good but service was poor. The afternoon tea was served then I think all the staff went home!! We ran out of tea and no one was around. At the end we left without anyone there and it wasn’t until later when some asked did we eat all the cakes we answered no so they said they should of put them in a box for you to take home, but as there was no one around we didn’t get that option. We left disappointed as we were told good things about this experience but left feeling as if we had inconvenienced them.
My wife and I were lucky enough to attend this hotel for their deal which includes a room, breakfast, use of spa, 25min treatment and money off PP for a meal in evening. The location is lovely set in a quite part of turners hill with lovely surroundings and a beautiful old style building. We were welcomed by a very friendly concierge who directed us to the reception. The lady at reception (I think she was called Charlotte) was again very friendly and helpful, she also gave us the good news we had our room upgraded to one of the cedar suite rooms which was a pleasant surprise. We were shown to our room by the concierge who’s name I cannot remember sorry, again he was brilliant and very helpful The room was amazing! Very big with lots of extras and a beautiful large bathroom with a balcony. I wish I had taken some pictures as my description will never cover it. We then went to use the spa and again excellent and amazing staff, so helpful and the place was clean and very relaxing. The 25min treatment again was very nice and the staff doing the treatments again were amazing. After relaxing we went to room to get ready for dinner. We went to the champagne bar no got some drinks before dinner, I thought they were very pricey and whilst I accept it’s a 5 star hotel the mark up on the drinks was considerable but again the bar staff were friendly. We went through to reflections restaurant and again staff were amazing and helpful, we ordered steak with fries and peppercorn sauce etc. now this is where I’m going to be controversial! The food for the price was very basic, the cost of the starters, steak and puddings was extremely expensive and the steak came out literally as a piece of steak, some fries and the sauce , no tomato or a bit of salad, now I have eaten in many restaurants and even a well known restaurant chain that specialises In steaks gives you a lettuce wedge, some side salad on plate etc and they are not as expensive as this hotel restaurant. So I just think for the quality of food it is over priced whilst appreciating we had some money off with the deal The breakfast in the morning was very nice and we had it brought to our room. So to sum up the location was amazing, the staff are key to this place and are without doubt amazing! I can’t fault any of the staff we had dealings with. My only view is the quality of the food for the price they are charging is not worth it, and drinks are expensive too. I appreciate people may have different views on food and cost…
We had booked a last minute spa stay with Alexander Hotels on a Thursday. Unfortunately I have come down with a vomiting bug and so we rang up explaining the situation and asking if we could rearrange. The lady on the phone said that as it was late notice we couldn’t and the only option was to turn up or change who was coming. I understand this is late notice and they have their policy but you’d think given this horrid circumstance and the fact it’s a Thursday that they’d maybe add some kindness and flexibility to our situation. The rooms in the hotel were not full. Also the lady said on the phone when we said so we either lose £400 or show up to the hotel with a vomiting bug and she said “ I can’t comment” but then said that was our only options. We obviously will not do this as it’s reckless to encourage someone to go to a hotel and use spa facilities with a sickness bug. For a five star hotel you would without a doubt expect better and I will not be recommending to any friends or family to come here. It’s not difficult to offer a change of date with a pay the difference price rate for extenuating circumstances. Disgusting to basically encourage someone to come and stay with a contagious sickness bug …
Had such a great time on mother's day. The staff were first class and can't thank them all enough. Charles has always made us feel welcome. Reese has always been attentive. Emily's personality is 2nd to none. And Tamas has a heart of gold. And Fiona the harpist? Talk about having the full package. The harp was a great touch. Can't recommend the place enough. Lots of love from The Moneys!!
Impressive grounds and main building. Clearly some effort went into interior design. Staff were friendly and efficient. For £200 plus a night room was small with about 12 inches of space on either side of the bed coupled with a sloped ceiling mode access to bed feel cramped. Impressive and well equipped bathroom with probably the best complimentary toileteries ive seen. Room was made significantly more expensive by £40 per couple extra for breakfast per day and another £40 per couple per day to use gym and pool. This overnight rate pretty high. That would have been ok but both treadmills in the gym were poorly maintained as belt kept slipping making running dangerous. The rowing machine battery was dead too making that unusable. i didn't explore further. Room also had a few design oddities such as a radiator on full in a wooden surround so couldn't be controlled and a separate AC system. So we had to have AC on full to keep room from overheating not great considering the cost of energy these days. Nice sinks in the bathroom were impractical as tap was too close to basin meaning you couldn't fill a kettle or cup or take a mouthful of water to brush your teeth. We ate in reflections bistro. Food was excellent if a bit pricy. A nice New Zealand white wine however was 3 times the shop price at £42. Seemed like a large markup. So overall nice place to stay but pricy extras a rather cramped room and a few minor but annoying faults made the hotel only average in terms of value …
This hotel is a real five star we had an amazing time fory birthday. They updated us to the tree tops room which was so special and the extra touches for my bday were lovely. Highly recommended this hotel. Spa area lovely only thing that needs some attention is the outside sauna unit as it's quite old but other than that everything perfect.byou even get snacks throughout the day including homemade flapjacks, grapes and sorbet
This beautiful hotel has its all! The food was great, amazing staff and lovely spa - 10/10 Our room was very spacious and had lovely views of the grounds. We would definitely stay here again in the future
My best friend and I stayed for my 50th birthday. It was our first stay, and the staff could not have been any more friendly, helpful or accomadating. The room was so comfortable, as were the beds. The rainforest shower was fantastic. Shame we didnt get chance to use the bath. The spa facilities were out of this world! Both the food at dinner and breakfast were fantastic, a huge range of options at breakfast.
Such a beautiful hotel, the Garden Suite is lovely room, the staff is very friendly. The spa facilities is also beautiful, we highly recommend. The Breakfast was delicious, my eggs benefits was delicious. the food at the bar also very nice and tasty.
From the moment we arrived we had excellant treatment by the hotel and spa staff. The dinner in the restaurant was very good. My wife does not eat meat. The menue provided her with one of the better choices that we have seen in many places. My wife was not able to have he rseerved spa treatment due to a fall. The spa staff made immediate alterations without any drama to still permit her to have a treatment.
