The manager of the hostel is an absolute delight to talk to and full of information about the area. The hostel has great facilities. It can be a little hard to find but when you do it is well worth the navigating troubles. The Hardknott and Wry Passes are a steep and winding but

A beautiful location, not far from the coastal location of St Bees and hills around Scafell Pike, smaller walks in the locality as well. Ideal for adults and young children as well. Hostel also has a bird hide as well, good for photographers.

Thanks for another great stay in a stunning location right by the river. Recommend the Walk up to the waterfalls in the big river valley just before the rise to Hardknott Pass. Thanks to Rachel and the rest of the team for being so friendly and helpful. Helen and James

Can't fault the place really, maybe a bit of a walk to get to any big summits but very manageable. Had a snorer in the dorm which made sleeping difficult. Ear plugs helped..! Staff and hostel were great, self catered facilities were clean and well stocked. Staff were happy to pro

Two Adders seen on the Wilderness Trail around the grounds of YHA Eskdale
Hi, we're staying here this weekend for my dad's 60th after climbing Scafell Pike. We are after recommendations of anywhere nearby to eat and have a few drinks on Saturday night if anyone can help. Thanks in advance.
Woolpack is nearest but not the best. Still after a day up Scafell I think you would be on such s high you will put up with lessctham perfect. You can get drinks in the yha too.

Hi, do many people in their 20's stay here?
Hi Emma, it is a real mixed bag. It is mainly walkers that stay here and people heading out into the lakes and up Scafell. I have stayed here 3 times and the age range on all trips was I would say 20's to 60's. I would say the most common age range was 30's to 40's as this group tend to have more walkers wanting to do this kind of challenging terrain. I hope this helps
