If you're looking for an escape, then this is the place for you. This hidden gem is run by a sweet family who makes you feel at home. The villa we stayed in was spacious and lovely. The breakfast made me wish I had booked all 10 nights there instead of just two. We stayed there Thanksgiving weekend and it was definitely the getaway we were looking for to start off our trip. We rented a car and everything is within driving distance of the highway. Casa Tortuga Cenotes Tulum was about 15 mins away and Playa Akumal was about 10 mins away. Perfectly located little compound. I will stay here again when I return to Mexico.

We came to Villa Morena after a long day stressful drive from Bacalar. We were uncertain as to how much longer we could stay in Mexico due to the global health crisis and the concerns of family back home in Oregon. Vanessa greeted us with warmth and understanding. Though we were booked for four nights she immediately assured us we could stay as long as we liked and only be charged for the nights we stayed. Leaving Villa Morena was one of the hardest things we had to do on our vacation. We immediately and completely fell in love with every aspect of this magical beautiful place and it was in this serene setting that we were able to consider the state of things and make an informed decision. The beauty of Villa Morena begins with Vanessa, but it's the entire family and community that makes this place so special. The Italian dinner we had was a meal we'll never forget (Vanessa's mom's homemade pasta was as good as anything I've ever eaten in Italy). I could go on and on. In short, this is a special place in part because it's home to the people who run it so rather than feeling like you're in a guest house you feel like you're a guest in someone's house. The most welcome guest. Come with an appetite, breakfast's are abundant (and that's before you order anything!) and stay in the area for a while. Akumal has so much to offer and Villa Morena is off the beaten path, in the quiet of the jungle just mere minutes from Cenotes, the beach, and National Parks. And the best thing about leaving is that at the end of the day you get to come home and truly feel like you're home. We will never stay anywhere else when in Akumal. Thank you Vanessa and family for gifting us such a memorable and exquisite experience we'll never forget.

Staying at Villa Morena was unlike any other hotels we ever stayed at. This is as different from your usual run off the mill hotels as you could imagine. Apart from everything being eco-friendly, the setting deep in the forest means we had Iguanas and birds to keep us company. It's quite something waking up to Birds chirping every morning. The place is owned by a family from Italy and is run like a homestay. Morena cooks everything in the kitchen and used to own a restaurant in Italy which means the food was amazing and we ate there every single night. You have to place the order for dinner in the morning so that it is cooked fresh for you with freshly bought ingredients. Make sure you try the Panna cotta as it was the best we had ever had. And the pizzas were to die for. Different fresh fruits and juice for breakfast every day, with a variety of cakes/bakes was amazing too. Vanessa was happy to help us with all our questions regarding the places to visit near by and we loved every one of her recommendations. The cabana we stayed at was spacious and had everything we needed. In December, we never felt the need for an AC or even had to switch on the ceiling fan. The property grounds and the rooms are immaculately clean and felt like they had been built recently. The rooms are provided with Mosquito nets, locker, comfortable beds and even a kitchenette with all the utensils. As it's about a km away from the highway, a car is highly recommended but we saw some people walking the stretch too. Do carry mosquito repellent as being in the forest, the evenings could get difficult otherwise. It's worth coming to Akumal just to stay here. All the cenotes/beaches/ruins/lagoons close by are an added bonus. We would have happily paid twice as much to stay here and the next time would be for a much longer stay.

We stayed for four enchanting nights and couldn’t have wanted for more. The grounds were impeccable, the service was thoughtful and prompt, delicious food, friendly inviting atmosphere, romantic and off a beaten path. Just stay here. It’s worth the extra 5 minute drive.

What more can we say...Just reading these reviews makes me wonder what else we can add...my husband and I were lucky enough to book an entire week in February with these wonderful people. Serenity abundant, breakfast outstanding, family heartwarming...this is the kind of place where if you wanted peace and solitude - you are left alone...but if you required a little more attention - they were alway there for you...(P.S. Remember to order dinner before you leave to visit the amazing local Cenotes and Ruins - because you definately don't want to miss any item off that extensive menu! (Mamas' homemade Lasagne and Italian bread a deal breaker!) Camarones my 2nd favorite! The pool was by far our favorite feature (next to the comfortable, self contained cabanas) was their converted cenote pool...whaaat an excellent idea! A win-win no matter what your tastes! **Rental car recommended to enjoy all that the area has to offer! We used "Easy Way Rentals" in Cancun for no-hassel reasonable rates**
