My favorite part of this resort is KIDS CLUB. Midori and Karla are amazing! Briar adored them while we were there. Snorkeling, Akumal, entertainment, Louis, and the other guests are icing on the cake. We were also never once approached to join a membership or do excursions. We actually went to them and asked! We will definitely be coming back.
Observations I will start by saying we love this resort. When guests mention it’s gone downhill or looks tired I wonder when was their last visit. My only other time here was in 2014. Building 1 wasn’t even fit for occupancy. No refrigerator in the rooms, water jugs were in the hallways and WiFi was only available in the lobby. And I loved my stay! Now there are multiple bars, mini fridge in every room, specialty restaurants and more pools. As before the staff are amazing. Staff are continually cleaning, repairing and doing general maintenance. People have different wants, needs and expectations. If you need to be entertained, want plush expensive linens, expect foam parties, loud music and a constant party atmosphere this is not the place for you. If you want to snorkel, enjoy the ocean, paddle board, do yoga, relax, enjoy the sound of the waves: you’ll want to come back. You can have completely different experiences based on which area you choose to lounge. In front of buildings 3/4 is a rocky beachfront, it’s a very quiet area, not crowded, 2 small pools and a small bar, we didn’t need to be up early for loungers (at 9am loungers could be found), drink service took a bit longer due to the distance. In front of buildings 1/2 the beach is smooth, snorkeling, wading, swimming is easy to do. There’s the snack bar, sushi bar, main pool and a smaller pool, beach volleyball, very crowded, had to be up early for loungers (by 7am it was very full of towels), much more active, drink service was very good. Your tastebuds are your own so food is subjective. We enjoyed the steakhouse twice. The chicken and pork were our favorites both times, the salad bar is also very good. The sushi bar is a great addition. The main dining room has a variety of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You may not like everything but you should be able to find something you enjoy. The made to order omelettes, pasta and the pizza were always good. The salad options were very good and fresh. The breads were wonderful. We have no complaints about any of the dining. The room was spotless every day. Housekeeping really is excellent here. Yes the rooms are basic rooms. They are clean, comfortable and have all your basic needs. Shampoo, body wash, lotion, toothbrush and toothpaste (such a tiny tube of toothpaste lasted a surprisingly long time). Plenty of closet space which included an iron, ironing board, robe, slippers, umbrella and safe. Used the washer and dryer twice during our two weeks. Learned to use the gentle cycle otherwise it was a long long wash time. One washer, one dryer. Pods can be bought at reception, 3 for $3 USD. I would recommend using the laundry service. Each bar seemed to make drinks and coffee a bit different. Find your favorite. A drink menu would be really appreciated. At home I drink Meiomi Pinot Noir and I enjoyed the house red merlot at dinner every night. My husbands only small complaint was with the beer. He’s a Coors light drinker. He also likes Dos Equis and Modelo. I’m not sure how many guests are drinking the Heineken in the mini fridge but none that we talked to drank it. Having Dos Equis (which you can ask to have in the mini fridge but he had to ask every day or it was Heineken) or Modelo would be a huge benefit to me because it would make my husband much happier. I could have left a note but I honestly didn’t think about it since I wasn’t drinking it. We would walk into town and buy a 12 pack of coors light at Oxxo for $8 or $9 USD. I wonder if they check the recycling to see what brands of off site canned beer is being drank. That is seriously the only complaint. And it’s not even a big one: to me. Having a board with daily activities listed would also be handy. Often our phones were in the room so we couldn’t check the website. Marissa was simply fabulous with drink service at the beach! Fernando was our very favorite bartender! Juan Carlos in the main dining room took excellent care of his guests. German had a handle on how long towels were left on unoccupied loungers! Alan with guest services has to be the most professional and friendly person we have ever met. We were always happy to see him. Every employee that we encountered were welcoming, helpful and very service oriented.…
We had an amazing time at the Akumal Bay Beach Resort. It was our first time in Mexico but definitely not the last one. Sargassum was a bit of an issue but it's nature so not the hotel's fault. Delfina, our beach server was lovely and very attentive. All staff works hard and everyone is super friendly. We went to see Chichen Itza and Cenote Maya. It was a super fun full day adventure. Dive Team at the resort is amazing. My husband had lots of fun when scuba diving. Snorkeling was hit or miss due to strong winds and limited visibility. Pool beds were mostly occupied by 6am. No biggie for those who don't want to smell chlorine all day but rather relax by the beautiful ocean. Beach chairs were sometimes hard to find in the most popular area especially after 9am. I don't blame all the people who wanted to relax close to bars, entertainment and snack bar. There were always chairs available in the more quiet part of the resort, so it wasn't terrible, just longer walks to grab food. We'll definitely be back!!! …
My wife and I and our three girls (20, 17, 10) went back for our third trip March 9-17. We went March of 2021, March of 2022 and again this year. We are getting close to our 30th trip to Mexico and have been up and down both coasts. This is our favorite spot. If you want swim up party bars and loud music and a stuffy "name brand" resort experience. Do not come here. You are not the right fit. If you want 5 star kindness, beautiful beaches, amazing ocean and pools, fun dining, and excellent service.....book it. You will be treated like family. Shout out to Juan Carlos (waiter at buffet), Adeil (entertainment team), Omero (bartender at beach), German (beach manager), and every other server and bartender and beach waitress and housekeeper....thank you! I wish I could name you all. See you next March. Peace and Love.…
Just returned from hosting our 7th annual Women's Wellness Week at Akumal. It was another amazing experience and I am so thankful for the help of all the staff. Special thank you to Hiram for accommodating our group and allowing us to use their yoga space.
Akumal Bay Beach and wellness never disappoints. From the all ocean front rooms, yoga, excellent food and drinks, friendly staff and enjoyable night Time entertainment, you will not regret coming! Barbara the yoga instructor is great for the most beginner or most advanced. My time doing yoga with her has transformed my life! Duceli in the beach area is always available with your drink and a smile! Miguel and Iohana are great at the bar in front of building 3. These are just three examples of the excellent service you will receive. Also, don't miss Alejandro's informative and fun turtle talks! Your first visit will not be your last!
We had the best service from Gustavo (Buffet) and Hector. They were lovely and always made sure we were having a good time. We’re gonna miss them! Also Juanita who served us drinks was the sweetest person ever. Overall the employees were very friendly and nice :)
This was my 7th time visiting this lovely resort and once again, it did not disappoint! I truly think what makes this place so special for me is the staff, many of whom have been there for many years. I would like to thank Aurora for making the BEST omelettes and for always being ready with her beautiful smile! Adrianna takes great care of our group at breakfast and Carlos, Alejandro and Wilbert also provide such wonderful service at the buffet! Hector clearly does a great job managing this venue! Thanks to Jennifer, the hostess at the Gourmet restaurant, for always helping our group get a table together! German, down at the beach always takes excellent care of our Women’s Wellness Group! Down at the snack bar, Luis, Daniel, Victoria and Delfina (beach service) are always ready with a cold drink, a snack and a smile! Teresa took such lovely care and showed great respect while cleaning our room each day! Hiram and his crew provide calming meditation and many different types of yoga and I have enjoyed every class I have participated in! I LOVE this place and can’t wait to back next year!…
I have visited this resort 6 times and plan to come back. One of the best draws is the amazing staff members like Jesus Catzin, German, Alejandro, Guadalupe, Adrianna, Bella, and Aurora. Their friendly and professional service is top notch. I especially enjoy the beautiful beach, nice rooms and delicious food. This is a cozy resort that isn’t crazy big and over crowded like some resorts, and it’s a perfect place to relax and enjoy your vacation.
Our last night at this perfect resort. We’d give it a 5/5. Beautiful rooms, very clean. Small resort which is nice. Live music every night until 1030. Staff is wonderful. Always a smile and so friendly. Beach is beautiful, lots of chairs. We had seaweed but the hard working men do their very best at trying to keep up with it, a thankless job, but we didn’t let it bother us. Nice little town to walk through up the beach. Food was great, drinks plentiful. We had the penthouse which made the view amazing. Didn’t use the top floor with the hot tub so not sure if we’d pay the extra for it again, although the view made it worth it. Again 5/5. 🙂
