After reading the reviews we decided on this place for a friends 40th birthday. The hotel was somewhat nice. The pools were nice. The seaweed smelled BAD and you didn’t really get used to it. The food was less than mediocre. It was very bland and didn’t taste like much of anything. They did not have very many food options and if you wanted to go to a restaurant other than the Buffet, you would wait a very long time. Also, I love coffee and read somewhere there was a coffee bar. There really isn’t. It’s the lobby and they don’t really serve any variety of coffees with any flavor, if that’s something you are looking for. But the most disappointing service was the tour desk or person you purchase the excursions from. We booked 2 excursions, one to tulum and coba and the second one on a catamaran. We were promised and English speaking tour (and yes I understand we were in mexico) but that’s what we paid for and were promised. Welp. We were the only ones who spoke English. They would explain in Spanish and say maybe 3 words to one like in English. All questions and answers were answered is Spanish. Beyond frustrating since we couldn’t engage in any kind of conversation and were missing out on knowledge and we paid almost 300 dollars for the tour. Secondly, we were booked on a catamaran. Picked up on time like we were told and then after the 40 minute bus ride (which ended up being more like 2 hours) were dropped off and at first no one knew why we were there or what tour we were on. Then after payment we were told ALL food and ALL beverages aka non alcoholic and alcoholic were included. Come to find out, it ended at a certain time. Which would have been fine if we were told, but we were not. We have been to Mexico many times and have never EVER had this kind of experience. Moral to the story. Don’t stay here. Food is less than mediocre and there’s not really any variety at all. And the excursion desk LIES to you, just to get you to buy from him. We have stayed in much better resorts, I would chose any other. Would never return to this resort.

So I’d like to start off by saying al the things we loved about the resort. 1. Everyone was so sweet and willing to help. 2. We had our room cleaned every day and the cleaning was done absolutely so quickly and beautifully. So props to the cleaning ladies 3. The snorkeling is AMAZING, you are supposed to snorkel past the rope but no one every says anything and the reef is absolutely stunning. 4. If you walk a few minutes down the beach past secrets, there is a sea turtle snorkel tour that takes you right there in the water for $20 a person. We saw FIVE sea turtles and a large stingray, it was amazing! 5. It is one of the only beaches that clean up the seaweed off the beach every morning despite it coming back every day. 6. Bartenders love to remember your drinks and are fun in that way, Regarding food... Pelican bar is super good. We ate there once every day, fajitas, nachos and burgers are great. The Mexican restaurant is the best in our opinion, tacos were great and azteca soup we got two nights. We didn’t try LIMA cause food looked to Bouge and gross. Buffett had some decent options that could be eaten for a couple times in a row, but it kinda gets gross after a few times. Cons: 1. Nor a lot of food options and most food is below average, you feel like your eating the same food all week 2. We didn’t swim once because it was very small and always had a lot of people in it 3. Our rooftop penthouse was beautiful BUT we didn’t use it more than once. Hot tub water was brown second time. 4. All drinks are super watered down, all margs were horrible 5. The Buddha bar night club and Brazilian steakhouse were closed the whole week. Kinda ridiculous in my opinion Tips: 1. Since drinks are super watered down, order everything extra strong, and take shots of u can! Gin and tonic were good and we drank those and pina colada all week! And tequila shots 2. Some people said Penthouse suite rooms don’t get hot enough, but if you close your blinds completely for the whole day while your out and about, it will really help! 3. Don’t come here for more than a week unless you want to be sick of the food 4. Don’t come here if you are looking for a crazy time with amazing drinks... this place is super beautiful and relaxing!!!! But not for partiers 5. Walk down the beach into the little town and hit up turtle bay cafe amd bakery! Their tacos and pizzas and pina coladas are to die for! SUCH a hidden gem We had an amazing time truly!!! It was our first all inclusive and didn’t have too many expectations. We made the best of our experience and enjoyed every moment!

We stayed in the Garden Terrace ground floor. The kids loved having easy access to the ocean and infinity pool. The most friendly staff we have ever encountered! Great drinks and food! Never had an empty glass!! The resort is great for kids as well!! The kids club staff was amazing! Marbella, Sintia, Clemente, Ambrosio, Carlos, and Wilbert were outstanding! I still miss having my morning coffee made by Wilbert!

This was the 4th time for my husband and I to visit Akumal Bay Beach & Wellness Resort. We missed coming last year due to COVID-19. As usual, it was extremely relaxing with many people who enabled us to have a wonderful time. Sweet Adriana and Alejandro Casanova took excellent care of us during breakfast and lunch. Orlinda did an exceptional job of cleaning our room; the cat that she made out of towels was my favorite animal. Edi did a great job of making sure the pool was clean; it was nice to be able to swim without our eyes being burnt by chemicals. Of course, it was a special delight to reconnect with Hiram and guest instructors Vanessa and Agni while practicing yoga; they are all very inspirational and kind people. My husband saw turtles and many kinds of fish every day while snorkeling. I had a fun paddle boarding outing with Charlie. All of the fresh fruit, especially the mango and papaya, was really delicious. My husband loved the coconut ice cream as usual while I indulged in the flan. This was the first time we stayed in building three which worked out fine. Having the convenience of being COVID tested on-site was much appreciated. We are looking forward to returning next year. Thank you to everyone for your hospitality!

As we prepare to leave, a number of vivid impressions will remain with us : The absolute integrity and work ethic demonstrated by the landscape / beach crew. As the sargassum season blooms, the endless work and dedication of the beach crew astounds us: Day after day, shoveling what appears to be a never ending buildup of this seaweed on behalf of the guests. Thank you! We appreciate your efforts. We even saw the supervisor with a shovel working along his ABBR crew as well as the outsiders brought in for backup. Another impression highlights the profound service Hiram offers within the Yoga program. His ability to connect with guests is extraordinary as he moves thru a wide range of yoga practices. We so appreciate his work for we come to ABBR for pleasure but also to heal ourselves thru his classes. This is very important: As ABBR moves beyond Covid, it's so vital to rethink how healing is a powerful part of the wellness program. And Hiram is essential in this vision. * Finally, each time, we connect with different staff members as each visit unfolds. This trip we want to thank the following team members for their personal attention and dedication to their work : Adriana, as part of the buffet breakfast and lunch wait staff, is remarkable. Her ability to know exactly what we need even before we do is so impressive. She not only serves us, she does so with a genuine smile and laughter. We so appreciate her presence in our lives while we visit ABBR. Also, during this trip, we had the pleasure of meeting Adiel, one of the lead Entertainment Team members. His enthusiasm and energy are so appreciated. Throughout the stay, we would engage in daily and evening activities with his guidance. It's apparent; he represents the best of ABBR for he loves his work. And as a result, we enjoy the activities more. We must also acknowledge Jorge as a vital force on the team. When he engages, the activity extends into something better. For example, his Aqua Classes far exceed other classes due to his passion. As a result, the classes are larger and more enjoyable. During evening programs, his lead creates more engagement and participation. Finally, we want to compliment the three restaurants and their team managers for providing excellent service during challenging times. We are aware that staffing issues impact service but we never experienced any hiccups during our stay. We look forward to returning and experiencing the food service program at full capacity. Till then, congrats to everyone in the three restaurants for your exemplary efforts. *A couple suggestions for consideration : 1. Guacamole please; it's almost non existent and this is Mexico. 2. Another fresh grill during breakfast, in addition, to eggs; pancake or crepe station with fixings would be appreciated. These items are best when hot off the grill. 2. 2. 2
