The food was really top notch at the à la carte restaurants, and there were several (since you have access to the entire Bahia Principe set of hotels there). The buffet was good, but I wouldn't bother with the seafood night - there was more seafood the night before (Mexican theme). Although the food was good, the à la carte Japanese restaurant beside the lobby ran out of white wine (but it was available at the connected lobby bar?). The buffet ran out of white wine on more than one night, but it is also connected to the lobby bar which did have white wine. The beach is very far away and the overall resort is huge - there are about 10 bus lines to get you around and you must take one to get to the beach. After the bus ride to the beach it's disappointing to note that there are rocks along the entire length of all the resorts, so you have to walk outside the north end of the resort to find actual sand. Also, it was very difficult to get sun chairs - many are reserved early in the morning by people who never show up, similar to most hotels down south. So not really a five-star experience. The room was dated with chipped tiles and a delaminated mirror. There was no hot water at all one day (we were told it was hotel-wide) and the rest of the week the water at the sink was only ever lukewarm. There was also mouldy grout in the shower and we were missing towels on some days. The minibar was not always restocked. When the shower conditioner ran out it was not refilled for the remaining three days of our stay. There were what looked like bird droppings splattered on the outside wall, and friends of ours had it all over the windows. It was not cleaned during the entire week. While our air conditioning worked, our friends' did not cool the room much. Ours would not stop even with the thermostat, so it got really cold one night and there is no heat. As such, I really didn't feel like the room was five-star. Lastly, the hotel sent a survey where I listed this issues. I waited several weeks before posting on TripAdvisor, hoping for an apology or some sort of reassurance that this was not normal. Instead, I got a cookie-cutter auto-email saying my comments would be forwarded to the departments involved, but no other text or personalized response. I also believe that a five-star resort should do more to read and respond to the surveys they ask guests to fill out. So not feeling like a valued guest. I will not return, especially for the price. The quality is just not there.…
Another visit to SK (the only exception we make to our rule of never returning to the same place more than once). Check in and restaurant selection via the app is very easy and we completed ours 5 days before arrival without issue. This did make check in a breeze. Just as well, took us over 3 hours to exit Cancun airport, so we weren't in the best frame of mind! You can book your restaurants for the whole of your stay. Recommend you do this, heard several moaning they hadn't and were now struggling to get in the restaurant of choice (they seemed to think this was the hotel's fault rather than their own, but everyone is told the same and it's very easy). As soon as the taxi pulls up the service springs into action, your luggage is sorted for you, a welcome drink, cool towel is in your hand within minutes. The staff then whisk you and your luggage around to your room. Rooms are large, clean, comfortable and well maintained. The minibar was restocked daily. That said it's such a wonderful place, we were only in our room to sleep, shower and change for dinner. AC worked well. A pool day was around the 'entertainment' pool, not that we bother joining in, but there's always something going on. The Entertainment staff are wonderful people, always checking things are ok, not intrusive at all, genuinely friendly people. Drinks service around the pool is very good. Several other quieter pools, depends on your taste. The SK beach has moved since we were last there, very rocky, loads of weed. That said 50 yds to the left is the Akumal beach which is lovely. Nice to go for a dip there and walk back to the kid free zone afterwards! Again, drinks service was very good. Food - we've never had a bad meal in the times we have stayed there. It all comes down to preferences. We did book 'Don Pablo' this time, not sure why we have never happened on that before, the food and service were fantastic. Service in the Steak House was iffy the night we went, but food good when they got into gear. Do allow plenty of time for your trolley journey if you are off to one of the other resorts to eat. Large family turned away from one restaurant when they arrived late, which they claimed was down to the trolley bus not being able to accommodate such a large group, forcing them to wait. Evening drinks and entertainment in the bar were very good. We do like the trolley buses, very easy to navigate your way around the resorts. In 2 weeks, I would say we rarely waited more than 10 minutes for a trolley. We really love the service, people, drink and food here. Everything is good, but the people are all exceptional and make the stay very memorable and special. SK is very peaceful. One thing of note, with it being a bit of a journey from the airport you don't get the 'weekends' flying in, getting leathered and being loud which is common in other Caribbean resorts. There's a very active Facebook Group for this hotel, which is well worth joining.…
Room showed huge signs of neglect. The blinds were covered in mould as were the wall panels (once I called for the screws to be taken out of the tracks that were keeping them stationary). And general lack of detailed cleaning overall. Mould is a serious health issue and precautions should be taken to ensure guest safety. I got sick later in the week with a tonsil infection and had to go to the clinic in resort. The mould spore I breathed may have contributed to my I’ll health.
Wow ! Been coming here 10 years and the service has never changed. Nothing is to much trouble and requests are dealt with promptly. Mostly done through an app but all instantaneous. The food is fantastic as are the alacartes. The penthouse rooms are so spacious and having the roof terrace is amazing. Yes there has been small cutbacks since Covid but everywhere has made cutbacks. None of these minute cutbacks will impact your holiday here. Antonio the manager is great. Anabel at the breakfast buffet is amazing. We did have an issue with our room which was sorted out immediately. A fantastic resort , fantastic people , fantastic food. See you next year SK for year 11
Excellent resort! Very few complaints! I was checking a lot of the reviews before going, as I was anxious about a non-beach resort, also 1 hour and 30 drive from airport. Keep in mind, this is an adults only, it tends to not be a party resort, but people still have fun in the pools and lobby! Plenty of laughing and fun! It’s much quieter and relaxing here than the other resorts with children. The theme is more jungle and tropical, but gorgeous resort! We would go back and highly recommend this if you are looking for an amazing experience, don’t mind doing the 10 minute cart drive to the beach and really want to unwind! Loved it! We went as a couple in our 30’s for our honeymoon. As this is the adults only Bahia, you have access to the other 3 Bahia resorts next door, access to all their restaurants and pools, except for the sunbeds in the luxury akumal section. Always something fun to do and shows to see! And also a great resort to come back to and relax! Service is great, drinks are always tasting great at Sian ka’an. The food was amazing, buffet is huge and great variety of foods. Breakfast: omelettes, French toast, pancakes, bacon, sausages, all kinds of eggs, fruits and even desserts for breakfast. Lunch is excellant too, always a good meat selection, sushi, salads. The A la carte restaurants are fantastic, we did the steakhouse (akumal - fantastic), the seafood (akumal- good, lobster was the only complaint some people had, if you’ve already experienced lobster, the taste is bland), mexican (Tulum- good, buffet style) and the gourmet Alux (Sian ka’an - fantastic). No complaints for the food, nobody was sick, we did not hear a single thing about anyone feeling sick, and yes we did sushi on the last two days. We just ate way to much! Beach: There is a section for Sian ka’an adults only designated for us. Very nice bar there and huts with beach chairs. The beach is rocky in the water, go towards the left side near the barrier, beach is much more sandier there with beautiful fish. Wait until the afternoon for a chair, people tend to go at 5am to place towels on chairs, but we got chairs in the afternoon. Yes, there is seaweed, they clean it up, not an issue. - pools are clean, one had some music playing and the other are quiet pools. - service is excellant here! Servers work very hard compared to other resort, tips go a long way here also! - entertainment is great! It’s a group of young adults with great energy always doing some morning yoga, pool bingo, music going, they worked hard and did great! It’s not too loud or too much either! Just enough to keep people entertained! Cons: - beds are very firm, could cause problem for people with back issues. - leaky faucet, very minor. - hot water, takes 5-10 mins for water to get hot on certain days. - very minor insects, be aware this in a jungle resort. (Ants only, none in the rooms 3rd floor) - mosquitos during evenings, bring bug spray! Remember, your attitude also makes a big part of your trip, minor set backs should not ruin your vacation, people at this resort work so hard to make it great for you! We would return and recommend for others to try it! …
We stayed at this resort for a week in March. We are a family of 6 and were looking for an adult all inclusive with good meals and easy access to all the amenities. We certainly got that during our stay and also had exceptional service here. Front desk staff were helpful, especially Guillermo who helped us change rooms to accomodate our elderly mothers. There was excellent service at all restaurants, but we especially liked eating breakfast at our resort as the waiters got to know our preferences, especially Ramon! We had access to the other 4 Bahia Principe resorts in this complex, which were easy to get to using this shuttle service. This resort gave us unlimited access to the the sit down restaurants, which were excellent, especially Alux, Don Pablo, Le Gourmet and the seafood restaurant. We didn't participate in many of the entertainment at the resorts, however we did enjoy the bike tours and the evening shows. …
Just back from a great week in the Mayan Riviera. We went a little different this time, choosing the off-beach resort, Bahia Príncipe Si’an Kaan. Turned out to be the perfect choice for us - quiet and relaxing, with plenty of options for staying active. The beach is a fairly peaceful 2.5Km walk from our resort. The highway overpass made the trip perfectly safe, and on the other side are the three sister resorts, complete with more buffets, more restaurants, more pools, and beaches. We like to walk, so we walked a lot. But the shuttles were great too (we used them often, usually when dressed for dinner vs the beach). Further helping us to stay active, there was Victor. Victor may be one of the nicest guys on the planet. But anytime you find yourself in one of his classes, get ready to work! His days start early, running daily Yoga, Pilates, HIIT and water aerobics classes - all were SUPER FUN, and very well attended. We’re not golfers, but the course next to the resort looked amazing. Finally, we had read that the staff were incredibly friendly - and those reviews were spot on. Smiling faces were EVERYWHERE, making us feel right at home from check in to check out. There are always a few that seemed to be helping us again and again. The breakfast team (Faustino, Anabel, Giovani), the Entertainment crew (Fernanda, Alexander) and of course, the tenders at the lobby bar (Jhovanny, Miguel). Thanks for everything Si’an Kaan - really hoping we’ll be back soon!…
Resort was beautiful. All the employees where nice and very positive. We ate at the different resorts for dinner. Didn't have bad meal at all. The buffet was not bad either. Great variety everyday. Can't beat mimosa every morning.
My experience at this hotel was far from perfect. My husband and I arrived late at this hotel and when we were brought to our room we've noticed that it was never cleaned after previous guests checked out. We were moved to a garden junior suite with blinds that were malfunctionning (not even able to close them), dirty bathroom and two seperate single beds. We refused to stay in that room and were moved again. Three rooms later, we were put in a room that was decent but that obviously needed a lot of attention. We noticed right away that the ventilation system coming from the rooftop unit was extremely noisy and that there was no hand soap in the bathroom (we requested some right away). We left to enjoy the rest of our evening and when we came back, we proceeded to go to bed and noticed that there were holes in all the sheets, some were even 1-inch wide. The bed frame was falling apart, it was making a lot of noise just by sitting on it and was unstable (the legs were crooked). The mattress was old, not protected and hard as concrete. The shower head was broken and we had to hold it in order to shower. To our disguss, we found fresh blood on the flat sheet, other stains were found as well on the pillows. It was now almost midnight and we just gave up, we didn't want to complaint again. The day after we arrived, we had to request hand soap again since we never got the one requested the day before, we also requested hand/face towels since they were none in the room, we had to insist a few times to get those. On the third day, housekeeping never showed up for an entire day, (even if we tipped well, not sure why we did that), we needed water and fresh towels, it was a reasonable ask in my opinion. My room key stopped working after a few days and I was stuck outside my room, I was told to go to the reception to sort this out, I refused and a nice hotel employee helped me sort out this mishap. To compensate all of the logistics issues, someone from the hotel gave us a bottle of sparkling wine and strawberries, which was very kind. At one point during the week our sheets were changed but this time we found footprints on them and again, other stains on all the bedding (i.e. rust, black mold, etc.). We found dirty footprints in the shower later that week as well, like if the maid's shoes were dirty when she cleaned it. We ended up cleaning the shower ourselves to make sure the dirt/mud was gone. I would also like to mention that the noise coming from the rooftop A/C unit was atrocious and prevented us from sleeping for the whole week, it was like sleeping next to a turbo jet. When the concierge called me the during my stay to ask if everything was ok, I complained about the noise but nothing was done on that front afterward. I realize that we don't go on vacation to live in our hotel room but the problems encountered were just too much for us, especially since they pretend to be a "luxury 5-star" hotel. On a positive note, I will truly miss the smiles and kindness of all the hardworking employees that took care of us at this hotel especially Faustino, Erick, Annabel, Salomon, Luis, Carlos, Joel, etc. Also, the hotel's grounds are truly beautiful, the food was amazing, the pools and the beach were also very enjoyable. Sadly, this hotel is not a "5-star" and I will probably give my money elsewhere next time.…
Despite not being much of a resort person, I had stayed at this resort back in 2014, when it was fairly new, and had a wonderful experience - everything from the food to the rooms to the beach to the resort facilities was perfect. This time, I'd say that the resort still has a lot to offer for a decent price - the food is still good, including both the buffets at the various resorts and the a la cartes (except for the French restaurant, which is slow and has mediocre food), the staff are still very friendly and helpful, and we still appreciated the great facilities (including the shuttles around the various resorts and to the beach), but two things have declined in quality. The most noticeable room for improvement are the rooms, which need to be refreshed and the furniture and furnishings need to be replaced. The rooms, which were so impressive in 2014, now look tired and everything just looks and feels kind of old (including the sofa, which you sink into if you try to sit on it). Our party had 3 rooms booked, and 2 of the rooms had odour issues - one was a mould/musky smell issue and the other smelled like chemicals. To the staff's credit, they did their best to find us rooms that didn't have odour issues but we ended up spending several hours on our arrival day checking out several rooms before we found ones that didn't have odour issues. The staff were really nice and patient with us though, and for that I have to give them full credit. They even sent us a dessert to our rooms one night to apologize for the room issues. The other thing is that the beach seems to have deteriorated in quality since 2014, and I think this may be because of the use of the wave blockers that they have installed in the water, which over time has had the effect of preventing rocks from being broken down into fine sand by the waves, leaving parts of the water close to the shore not completely sandy, and in some areas, a bit rocky. Also, at some point between 2014 and this more recent visit, they moved the original adults only beach that was exclusive to Sian Ka'an guests to a different part of the beach, which is a shame because the original set-up was fantastic. The nice thing about this resort complex is that there are always enough beach chairs, which is great, but I do wish that they'd fix up the beach itself, which used to be pretty good. All in all, I'd still give it 4 out of 5 stars (I gave it 5 stars back in 2014) but there's definitely some room for improvement.…
