The attention to detail is evident everywhere. The house has been exceptionally well restored. Every room is uniquely furnished for charm and comfort with high ceilings. Rooms are spacious. Gathering places include a nice sitting room at the entry, the breakfast dining area and a spacious shaded patio with lighting, a large fan and a butane pole heater. Also, there are "quiet" places scattered around the grounds including a hammock, swing and chairs and benches. The grounds are well landscaped and maintained. Ron is an outstanding host from his welcome upon arrival, frequent checking on any needs, chatting during breakfast, and assisting with departure. Breakfasts are different each day and exceptional quality. We were a group of 9 who chose the Arrowhead Inn because of its close proximity to friends we were visiting in Durham. Everyone agreed this will probably be our location for future gatherings. Although out from downtown, downtown is easily accessible and numerous restaurants are within minutes away. Only negative of location is road sounds from adjacent road can be heard, but I did not find this bothersome. Arrowhead is a real treat!

We stayed in the Garden Cottage and it was perfect in all ways, clean and comfortable. The cottage has a veranda with a hanging swing to sit in at night and have a glass a wine while listening to the wind chimes and the faint music coming from the perfectly lite and maintained garden. The morning brings a gourmet breakfast that is served on the bistro table on the veranda...what magic! We stayed 4 days and each day was perfect! The innkeepers are there when you need them and not when you don't. The peace and solitude is a welcome respite from this crazy world.

Thank you for this very gracious review. We appreciate you spending time with us during these challenging times. And, that you found Arrowhead Inn as a place of relaxation. While we have had to make changes with some of our services and amenities, we still take great pride in what our Inn has to offer our guests when they are looking for a place to stay. Hope the remainder of your travels went well. We hope we have a chance to host you again in the future. Be safe!

My husband and I stayed here for almost a whole week after our wedding (a “mini-moon” if you will), and our stay has been nothing short of amazing. Ron & Stephanie are extremely friendly and welcoming, any of the staff members were also incredibly friendly. There was not a single interaction that wasn’t met with smiles and kind words. We stayed in the Pune Suite for most of our stay and found it comfortable, clean, and relaxing. The last night, we stayed in the Benson Room and it was also incredibly relaxing (with an awesome tub!). Stephanie’s breakfasts were off the charts delicious (our favorite was an egg dish baked in a ceramic quiche dish with asparagus) and fresh fruit and coffee were also served every morning. Ron’s hospitality and interaction with the guests was phenomenal, he was easily reachable by text if we ever needed anything and often stayed to chat with everyone at breakfast.

The grounds are gorgeous, with huge magnolia trees and a number of places to just sit and enjoy the day. If you’re out there long enough you can spend some time watching their automatic mowers meandering around keeping the grass neatly trimmed.

Overall, my husband and I will gladly stay here again the next chance we get! Thank you Ron & Stephanie for an amazing stay!

My husband and I stayed here on 1/26/20. We had tickets for a concert in town that night and were staying overnight. Even though we were looking forward to the concert, once we saw Arrowhead and all of its amenities, we were sad that we had to leave our room. Everything was so thoughtfully planned out. The fresh rose on the nightstand, the chocolates, the snacks, the huge bathtub, the makeup washcloth, the in-room music playing and the fireplace are definitely reasons to plan a return trip....with no concert to see. Ron and Stephanie made us feel so welcome and the gourmet breakfast we ate made it hard to leave the next morning. 5 stars.

The place is amazing! Perfect for relaxation. So many great amenities . We stayed in the cottage overnight for our wedding night. Upon arrival we recieved detailed instructions and a warm friendly welcome There was a 2 person steam shower and jacuzzi in the room we used both. The bed was so comfortable. There was bottled water yummy trail mix snacks and chocolates. There was a scented candle and a rubber ducky! The Terry cloth robes in 2 sizes and the swing on the porch that looked over the very manicured grounds were everything you could want for rest relation and romance. The beautiful breakfast set out on the porch in the morning complete with coffee and juice. The inn keeper Ron was a gracious host gave us a bit of a history lesson on the house and grounds. Overall I would say this place is 200% worth it. We will definitely be back!

I stayed here for a quick getaway. It’s an historic property. There are 3 rooms 1st floor and 4 on the 2nd. The stairs to the second floor are tricky so I would book a room on the first floor if you have mobility issues. I would ask when you book if they will help you with luggage if you want a room on the 2nd floor. Nice living room to relax in. The landscaping is mature and very lovely. Well cared for. There are several sitting areas, one with a fire pit. Also a gazebo and even a hammock. Would have been outside more except it rained. Outside patio for dining. There is even a separate log cabin! Breakfast was a selection of juices, fresh fruit, quiche, sausage and coffee cake. Hosts were very nice and service was great. The location is great too. On the outskirts of Durham in a residential neighbor but close enough for an easy trip to downtown. Bathtub and gas fireplace. Even left me a rubber duck! -:)
Only downside is it’s right off the highway and gets noisy @5am so I would ask for a room on the opposite side of the house. Or close the windows when you retire for the night! They offer a selection of wines, and there is a coffee maker and frig in the room.

Thanks for taking the time to write this detailed review! We appreciate you coming a short distance down from our home state of Virginia to stay with us and supporting our small business. The Lipscomb room where you stayed is the original master bedroom of the circa 1775 house and is one of our favorites. And yes, the 250 year old staircase is unique to the house. We had to stop offering help with luggage for a while with COVID but can now assist if/when asked. Sorry for any difficulties you may have experienced during check-in. Thanks again and we look forward to seeing you again in the near future.

During a recent visit to Durham, NC we had the pleasure of staying at the Arrowhead Inn. The Arrowhead Inn sits outside of the hustle and bustle of downtown Durham, which gives you that in the quiet, country vide.
However, country certainly does not describe the actual Inn. The Inn is very grand and elegant from the outside to the inside. Each room is meticulously decorated to allow you to step back in time to the days of Southern grandeur, but with all of the modern amenities that we all need, such as free wifi. Each room had a private bathroom, tv, and mini frig. The room we stayed in had a really nice walk in closet, which was a great place to store all of our equipment.
The Arrowhead provides breakfast each morning. You can enjoy your breakfast in the dining area or on the lovely back patio. The back patio is also a very nice place to relax with a glass of wine or cup of tea at the end of a busy day.
For whatever reason life has brought you to Durham, NC the Arrowhead Inn is a great place to stay.

Your visit was the first time we have hosted social media influencers at our Inn in support of our friends at Discover Durham. We know you had to make some last minute changes in your place to stay and we are glad we were able to accommodate with one of our open rooms. We know you had a busy schedule with your Durham tours and that Discover Durham showed you many of the highlights that our city provides. That also meant that you were away from the Inn for most of the 3 days of your stay so we weren't able to spend much time talking about the history of Arrowhead Inn. Nonetheless, we appreciate you taking the time to write this review and hope your travels bring you back to Durham soon.

We stopped here going from Florida to Virginia for a night. The inn is beautiful and well decorated. Our room was well appointed and very comfortable, with a sitting area and separate bedroom. The finishing touches such as the antique radio were a very welcome addition.

Due to Covid concerns a portion of the inn was blocked off and our breakfast was served outside on the patio. It was a beautiful morning and the patio was a great location for a delicious breakfast. The grounds of the inn are simply amazing. The plantings, gardens, and landscaping make it a beautiful, beautiful place to stay.

The innkeepers, Ron and Stephanie, were delightful and couldn’t have been more helpful. We were running a bit late due to traffic and they kept in touch and made sure they were available to greet us and familiarize us with the inn. I wish we had more time to stay and enjoy the area more as Durham is only 15 minutes away and we had a wonderful meal there. The entire area is simply worth the time to spend if you are looking for a relaxing place near the Research Triangle. We will certainly return here in our travels.

We stayed in the Lipscomb room. It is beautifully decorated and has a great soaking tub in the bathroom. This is an upgraded historic Inn. The grounds are lovely. Breakfast was gourmet and delicious both of the mornings we stayed there. They have a big breakfast room with tables or outside tables. We would stay here again if we came to Durham. Very attentive and congenial host, Ron, was very welcoming. You will definitely feel pampered to stay here with luxurious bed linens and upscale toiletries in the bath.

While traveling north on a trip we decided to try a Bed & Breakfast instead of a chain hotel. What a wonderful surprise. The inn was charming, the grounds were a relaxing respite and the room was comfortable and spotless with a fireplace and soaking tub. Breakfast was delicious and we were back on the road after a delightful visit that we will repeat.

The Bulls stadium is about 10 miles from our Inn. We have season pack and love going to games. The Tobacco Road Sports Cafe looks our over the stadium which is a fun environment. For great burgers, Bull City Burger and Brewery is top notch. More upscale is Nanasteak. Mellow Mushroom is across the street for “hip” pizza. If you want more details, please call our Inn at 919-477-8430. Thanks, Ron

We didn't find anything we really liked that was close to the Inn. However, the Kamado Grille at 832 Springfield Commons, Raleigh was excellent! The food was fantastic and it has a great casual/sophisticated ambiance. It serves Amercian cuisine cooked in Kamado grilles. It is about 45 min from the Inn, but it's worth it!
