The "sleeping end" of the room has a large, very comfortable, double bed with beautiful bed linen; the wardrobe and cupboards provide ample room for clothing. The bath, walk-in large shower and double sinks are of the highest standard with well positioned mirrors, lighting and plugs. Toiletries are also well chosen. There is a small, separate loo.
Breakfast was served by Chantelle in the spacious public space on the ground floor. We had asked for orange juice, croissants, pains aux chocs, bread with confitures, tea and coffee....which is exactly what we were served.
Chantelle was charming and helpful throughout our stay - recommending and booking a restaurant as well as helping us to carry luggage to the car on our departure. We would not hesitate to commend this lovely place to friends and intend a return visit when we are in the area next year.
Just one word of warning - the Mairie has just introduced a new One Way system into this small town and 2, Chemin de la mestrise needs to be approached from Cours du Marechal de Mirepoix.
The house itself is very close to the centre of Mirepoix (a few minutes walk) and sits quietly behind a high wall and private courtyard. It is old and charming; the rooms are done to a high specification in a French country style. There's a kitchen and living area downstairs, where breakfast is served and where you're free to make your own drinks. Our bathroom was well designed and the products provided were good quality and plentiful. Some of the rooms have a bath in them - a recent trend not much to my liking - but ours was separated by a curtain (the lavatory has a door). The only thing that didn't shine were the pillows, which were somewhat hard, but that's probably a personal thing and a mere bagatelle.
The house itself was lovely but the shining star was Chantal, who runs it. She exudes warmth, good humour and general delightfulness. We were, for instance, due to arrive at 10pm, itself a late enough time. Flight delays, queues at the car hire counter etc conspired to make us even later and when we finally limped up to the house at 11.30pm it was dark and shut up. Long story short, Chantal arrived five minutes after our phone call, during which time images of grumpy, unwelcoming Madames had formed in our minds, but she couldn't have been more charming. She had lit a fire for us in our room, it was warm and inviting. Our relief was huge. And it continued thus - she recommended and booked a restaurant for us, was around and chatty but never intrusive. A completely delightful presence.
We almost stayed for a fourth and final night but felt we should be more adventurous and so ventured forth to what was supposed to be a chateau, but turned out to be a converted garage attached to a house that was itself surrounded by bungalows, and with a house style that was all about portion control. All this only served to highlight the charms of Chantal and Demeure de la Carmine.
Unfortunately we didn't get the chance to have a swim in the pool which looked very inviting.
We parked only a few metres along the road.
We would love to have stayed longer and would thoroughly recommend it.
Chantal welcomed us early, the entire house was at our disposal.
Beautiful linen, toiletries, towels, candles etc..
Each room has a different decor - ours was grey/lilac - romantic, soft & French!
Chantal was charming, accommodating, patient with my French. Amazing house keeper.
She did everything in the house and her standards are very high!
