Detailed Reviews
The Hotel has a beautiful parc with lots of trees and shadow. It has two dreamy beaches (unfortunately you can‘t go swimming directly from the beach since the coralls start immediately). The rooms are average, working AC, only two plugs in the room, everything is a bit old but serves its purpose. Dinner is average but one gets used to it. The diving compensates for everything.
Considering the affordable price it still deserves 4/5 stars 👌🏼

From the first contact (via booking.com) they did everything to make out stay relaxing. The only problem was that you can not make a payment via booking.com but through the bank, but Mangrove provided all the necessary paperwork for that. After that everything was smooth: driver waiting for us at the airport, transfer, check-in that took only minutes and then a nice (maybe basic but spacious and clean) room with a good AC and the fridge and the safe and the most beautiful beach with a gorgeous house reef.
Food was delicious, and of a good variety, even though with COVID going on the number of guest was rather small. I loved that they included local dishes in both breakfast and diner menus, since I really like Egyptian salads and sweets.
Hotel is situated in the bay, next to a desert, and has a nice garden with a lot of palm trees. Both beaches are scenic, we chose one that is closer to the jetty. There is a lot of space, a large number of sunbeds and umbrellas, so you do not feel crowded.
Staff is welcoming and attentive.
All epidemiological measures regarding COVID were in place, so we felt safe.
There is no: animation, baby sitting services, loud music, parties...which we loved.
So if you want tranquility, nice and clean rooms, personalized service and beautiful sea do come to Mangrove!
Yes, I am planing to come back and yes, I am recommending this place to my friends.

Stayed for a week during Christmas, beach almost deserted, and even when full, guests are very considerate and quiet. Accommodation typical for a three star bungalows on the beach. Good food at the diving bar, beautiful views. Staff very friendly and helpful. Wonderful holidays for those who like being close to nature. Warm, shallow water, great for swimming, snorkelling and diving.

An excellent location and diving center but terrible reservation personnel and terrible reception, rooms and food are below average.
The hotel reservation in cairo was unprofessional and indecent taking our reservation (8 rooms), mr. Alaa was rude with 3 different persons of the group who tried to explain our needs.
Reaching the hotel, all what we requested was disregarded, and the reception was not able to handle us as customers.
The food was poor, especially the dessert.
That’s said, I have to admit that the hotel location, the view, landscape and the diving center are impressive.
It is a putty to see such great potential lost like that with bad service.

This was my fourth stay at Mangrove Bay Resort, but the first as a family now that my two children are qualified divers. To say that we had the most amazing 10 days would be an understatement; it was possibly the best family diving holiday we have ever had and we are already planning our return next year!
And here's why, (in no particular order because each point is important), for a really super dive holiday you have to consider three key things, IMO, which are: 1) the quality, safety, service & value for money of the dive operator, 2) the quality, variety and accessibility of the dive sites and 3) the quality, service & value for money of the resort.
To start with the resort. Mangrove Bay Resort is not a 5-star hotel and if you are looking for top of the range accommodation then this is probably not the place for you. But if you are into your diving, the hotel is perfect. The hotel is well kept; the twin rooms are clean, have air conditioning and are serviced everyday and it offers excellent service in a friendly and personable way. The waiters very quickly got to know us by name and attended to our every need. Nothing was too much trouble for Mohammed and his team and everyone made us feel very relaxed and at home. The food was excellent - there was a wide choice for breakfast which included fruit juices, fresh fruit & fruit salad, pancakes, delicious pasties and homemade croissants as well as cereals and omelettes or fried eggs cooked to order by the front of house chef.
As Mangrove Bay operates on a half board basis, we bought a light lunch at the dive centre (toasted club sandwiches, burgers, subs, fries, salad, etc) for well under a fiver! We relaxed and had our lunch in the shaded seated area with a gentle cooling breeze looking onto the idyllic views of the Red Sea between dives. The evening meal was also superb! Eating outside on the terrace area, we were treated to a fabulous buffet meal every night, which included soups, beef, fish and chicken dishes as well as vegetables, rice and potatoes. The homemade desserts were to die for, as was the sweet Egyptian watermelon!
The hotel also has a lovely swimming pool and sun-lounge area which was absolutely perfect for a pre-breakfast dip or for topping up on our tans between and after dives. Large beach towels are provided - free!
So the resort gets a thumbs up from us!
And so on to the dive centre and the diving! Essam runs Ducks Diving which is located within the resort, just a minute’s walk away from our rooms. Essam and his wife, Marian are absolutely delightful - way back in 2000 when we first met Essam we knew then that we were in good hands. (My wife wrote in her dive logbook, “Essam is brilliant”!). Ducks is run in a relaxed, friendly and highly professional way. Safety is of paramount importance to Essam and his team and as a result everything is done professionally and thoroughly. The dive instructors (Gunter and Mohammed) were superb with my children; one did her JAOW and the other his Rescue Diver course. We felt completely relaxed in the knowledge that they were being well looked after. We rented most of our equipment, which was of a really high quality and there was never an issue if we needed to change something or when I left my mask on the large boat from the previous days’ diving!
Ducks has the most amazing house reef which is accessible directly from the resort, (a one minute walk). Here we encountered so much marine life, from giant moray eels, turtles, spotted eagle rays and huge feather-tailed stingrays to the cutest box and puffer fish and colourful dottybacks and dancing anthias! We even spent a memorable morning diving and snorkelling with a dolphin! The hard and soft coral is abundant and in excellent condition. The house reef also has shallow sandy areas which are perfect for dive courses where my children did their in-water training. We were never disappointed, as every time we dived the house reef we experienced something completely different and the night dives were magical!
There is a wide variety of dive sites, each offering a different experience. Ducks currently has two zodiacs (speed boats) and one large boat. The zodiacs are used to take divers to dive sites (from one to 10 minutes away) on the inside and outside of the bay, while the large boat takes divers on full day excursions up and down the coast. We dived both the north and south sides of the bay from the zodiac and were treated to some truly excellent dives with a school of hundreds, if not thousands, of redtooth triggerfish on the northside and the most stunning coral gardens on the southside. We also travelled south one day on the large boat to dive with a dugong. The crew looked after us so well and we were most impressed with the thorough pre-dive briefings as well as the scrummy lunch.
To summarise, our stay at the Mangrove Bay Resort was so relaxing. Bearing in mind it is a three star hotel, we couldn’t have asked for better service and food and a more friendlier, professional staff. As for the diving and the whole dive experience - it was simply wonderful!!
If you are a British diver it is well worth considering Mangrove Bay Resort as an alternative to a liveaboard or a resort in Hurghada or Sharm. The atmosphere here is lovely; so relaxed and peaceful, and the diving is excellent. You will be so well looked after by all the team at Ducks that you can’t help but have a special time.
There’s a reason that 80% of Essam’s guests are returnees, (including us); we have experienced this ‘hidden gem’ of Red Sea diving - no wonder we keep coming back for more!

I've been at Mangrove Bay in 2002, 2003 and just this March 2014.
The reason the 80% returning customers come here: Duck's Dive Center, the boat dock and the beautiful house reef!
The hotel? Well, you have to stay somewhere to use the above...
Nothing much has changed in the hotel in the past 12 years... the rooms are very basic and the appliances dated. The hotel is rather remote and therefore creates its own power with a generator. It's audible but not too bad if you have a room closer to the restaurant.
The restaurant serves breakfast and dinner, not much variety here. You wont start the day or go to bed hungry but you also wont get anything worth writing home about. The best food you get here is during the surface break on the dive boat! Ask the crew to prepare fresh fish, it's the best!
The staff is really friendly and - I think a very good sign - mostly the same people that were already there 12 years ago. But the whole hotel only survives because of the very good dive center with its boats right at the end of the dock and the natural beauty of the house reef.
If you are a diver and don't need anything else, this is your place.
If you have kids or want entertainment, delicious romantic dinners, etc. - keep looking.

Hotel has improved a lot since last few years. Now under new management. Food has improved a lot, they're improving the rooms.
The house reef is still one of the best in the whole of Egypt.
This used to be a destination that people rated as "Diving and snorkeling excellent, hotel poor". In our opinion this is no longer the case.

I cannot summarize how amazing this experience was without going on and on about it! But I'm gonna try:
1- The Diving Center owners are wonderful people, instructors are extremely qualified and professional, and the diving equipment is top notch.
2- The room was extremely clean and hotel staff are more than perfect and friendly.
3- The hotel is located in a heavenly place; pure nature and beautiful views of the reef and the sea.
4- The hotel clientele is super so everyone is very nice, peaceful, friendly, mind their own business.
Overall, I cannot summarize this in any other way... Peaceful, Happy, Relaxing, Professional, PERFECT!

One of the best house reefs on the red sea by far.
A perfect simplistic quiet place with a beautiful spot on the beach and friendly hospitable people.
Also, the prices are very reasonable.
The Ducks diving center has a crew of highly trained professionals that are very thorough and patient with you in teaching you to dive.. They also make sure you have a good time and see alot of the underwater paradise on your first dives.
If you are not looking for luxury but more for a relaxed underwater journey this is the place to go. (Even snorkeling at the location is beautiful)

This is our 4th visit to Egypt, so we are fairly new to it all, but in that time we have stayed in 7 different hotels, and I have to say on a lot of levels Mangrove Bay is up there with the best. I'm sure the management won't mind me saying it doesn't quite come up to the same level as the Old Cataract in Aswan, but then they don't charge the same either.
On this trip we stayed overnight for our first night in Hilton Hurghada Resort hotel, because of a delayed flight. Despite some of the negative comments on here, our room in Mangrove Bay was cleaner, the bed much more comfortable, and the food most definitely was better. The couple of minor niggles we had with the room were sorted immediately, without any fuss. We have stayed in (what was then) the Intercontintinental Palace Port Ghalib and Hurghada Movenpick, and in neither hotel did the food match up to Mangrove Bay. There was an excellent selection available at breakfast and dinner, even when the guest numbers were low, and the food sold from the bar at lunchtime was not only delicious but very reasonable (around £3.50 for a fresh tuna sub with salad and chips). Their fresh croissants at breakfast are to die for....I am carrying 5 extra holiday pounds to prove it...and their desserts were by far the tastiest I have tasted in a large hotel (see the 5 extra holiday pounds). The staff are all so friendly and helpful. They could not do enough for us. There is nothing else around, nowhere you can walk to, but that doesn't seem to matter. Some people do go on trips from the hotel, but most stay put.
As for the diving centre, Essam and his team are simply wonderful. They can't be faulted. Essam started the dive centre when the hotel opened, and it was purely for the excellent diving. We don't dive, only snorkel, but the snorkelling was outstanding, unforgettable. We are planning on returning next year.
One thing we really couldn't understand was, having met loads of UK divers during our visits, it was strange that at this gem we were the only Brits...all the rest were German, Austrian or Swiss, with many returning year after year for the 20 years the resort has been open. The hotel are desperate to welcome some more diving Brits.
It is now 2 years under new management, and they are working hard to get the hotel back up to scratch, with room, pool and hotel renovations, and even improving the pier area for divers and snorkellers over the coming months. They will also be offering better pricing in the near future with free WiFi in the main hotel reception area. Please, please - if you are a British diver looking for somewhere new, try Mangrove Bay. Sharks, turtles, dugongs, rays, and the most amazing reefs, a lot of which are accessed daily by boats from Marsa Alam. Ducks Dive offers day and night boat trips from either the large boat, rib or little boat. The reef area around the hotel is exclusive to hotel guests, as is Ducks Dive, so always quiet. As mentioned before, there is not a huge amount for children to do, but there is a lovely play area, and two beautiful beaches.
If you want a simple holiday with early mornings and early nights, good food and wonderful diving, please give this hotel a try.
