Listen this is the best place close just minutes from manhattan if you do like going to the city. The view of the city is nice and the bar is open after 5 pm and the cafe is open all day. I stay here before in 2021 and this year working as a traveling consultant, Photographer, and filmmaker. Where and when I come to NYC, I try to make the booking for this place first before anything in the city. Clean rooms, easy access as well There is always something going on at The LOCAL NY "look for daily events "if you do visit" The staff is and always has been amazing.

Had a brilliant experience here. For such an affordable stay the quality was excellent, the room was lovely, clean and cosy and the services offered were great - kitchen, lounge, computer/library area and laundry room. They also have activities like movie nights which is such a great bonus. The staff were extremely kind - especially Yari - who helped my friend and I when we missed our bus. We really felt taken care of. The location is also great and well connected with a subway station a few minutes away and it felt safe walking home at night. I couldn't believe we found this place and that it was as good as it seemed, especially for NYC! I would highly recommend staying here. Thank you so much to the staff who made our stay so enjoyable ❤

The price is false because you are forced to pay in cash another fifty to a hundred dollars on your check in. Go to Hi Hostels instead google them, cheaper thatn this, Better go to Q4 Hotel 29-09 Queens Plaza North, Long Island City, 11101, NY, Q4 is cheap and is same price as the Local Hostel, q4 has computer lab, pool table, international guests, live fun friendly atmosphere in Q4. Q4 is very CLOSE to this the LOcal Hostel "Google Q4 hotel for prices, much better environment. Q4 is close to this hostel" The place is very racist towards the French and Discrimination against Brazilians. Racist against Portugese people. The carpets are repulsive, there are mites that will crawl into your socks! don't walk on the carpet, but ther's no choice you have to step on th carpet. There is nothing around the area, it is car repair shops, warehouses, empty streets, empty neighborhood. The front desk employees yell at you for small things. The Hispanic woman was banging garbage cans at 12 midnight, she was so angry that no one wants to talk to her! And then you have the man employee Lee Gonzalez who looks like an North African from Morocco or Tunisia, he really wishes he was white and he tries to act tough, he is mean, very stingy, and he has low-self esteem issues. The guy looks more north african than anything else. The entertainment is boring and mostly an old lady would come in with her ugly, sorry those drawings are not art, she is a local from the neighborhood and she comes in and hangs her ugly artwork on the walls. The live music is brong and stale, it's the people begging for money on the streets who come to play your music. The only good music is the pre-recorded 90's music they play on the ceiling speakers sometimes. Air quality will hurt your lungs because the air filters have DUST and BLACK Mold, it is invading your lungs and will infect you over time. Black mold stays in your lungs for decades, you will feel psychological symptoms and tiredness, dry throat, red eyes if you sleep one night here. Just one night of sleep and the black mold, dust , and dandruff will enter your lungs through your nose. The air system is dirty. The place is very racist towards the French and discrimination against Brazilians.

Recent trip to NYC we had tickets to see the rockettes. They canceled all the shows for the remainder of the year. With this and the fact that covid cases rising daily we wanted to leave. Since we were only giving 24hr noticed they would not refund us the our money, The workers I talked to were rude. Can't believe the lack of flexibility during this NYC and national crisis. There are hotels near this one which have competitive rates such as the Paper Factory Hotel that have nicer staff and nicer accomodations.

It was disappointing that the room was not clean. The first room had hair from the previous guests everywhere, which would have easily be fixed by vacuum cleaning the place. We asked the hostel staff to clean it. The second day we requested another room a bit further a way from the hallway door which made a banging sound when people passed it at night...and the second room also had hair everywhere, also in the shower and the garbage container still had garbage as well. The communal kitchen was also not very clean, with limited cutlery and stoves available. Otherwise the stay was quite ok. The location is good, with some nice places to eat around the corner (check LM Cafe for breakfast, or ICONYC Brewing for a beer at night). Also two metro stations are within walking distance. The neighborhood is an industrial area so don't be surprised to find a lot of crashed cars parked in the street near the hotel. Despite the industrial feel, it is safe at night. The hostel itself is an old warehouse, and also has the industrial look. Washing machines are available.

My bed sheet was stained and had hair on it. Towel had a dark stain on it. I reported the issue and the dirty items were changed, but the incident made me question whether sheets and towels are regularly changed at that hotel. I stayed in room 226, bed 1.

absolutely horrible staff, and horrible customer service here. I rented an all female dorm room and they allowed a male to rent a bed in the room who refused to leave, I then had to call the front desk I order to force him to leave my all-female dorm room. The staff is rude and unprofessional. A staff member Ja’royce insulted me as I went to obtain my luggage, and the manger hid in the back and refused to do anything about it. I also had a credit card sent here as a replacement during my stay. They refused to give me my cards and denied obtaining them even though my credit card companies acknowledged that they were sent to the address. Completely untrustworthy. Don’t book here.

My wife and I rented a private room and the room was completely dirty when we checked in. A layer of dust was visible over all surfaces and the sheets and bedding appeared dirty as well. The mattress was springy, not a queen despite the room name, and not great to sleep on. Also our key cards continually stopped working for no reason and when you brought them the front desk there was no apology or explanation; they would just silently reset the card and give it back to you. I know this place is more of a hostel but our room was $135/night and the quality of room and level of service was woefully inadequate for that price point. Will not stay again and not recommended at all.

Honestly this place was a breath of fresh air when I stayed. I extended my twice and the views are too die for. Staff is super cool. Only drawback is the fire alarm being sensitive to steam from the shower/bathroom. Will stay again.

This is my favorite hostel in NYC. I’ve been to about 100 hostels all over the world and The Local NYC is in the top group of the very best according to international standards. The community and administration at the Local Hostel helped me during the hardest experience of my life- and they made it a pleasure. I don’t know what I would have done without them. It definitely would have been a lot more traumatic and painful. A lot of hostels don’t want to publicize this- but obviously a lot of hostels have had to take local people to stay alive during the pandemic because there are no tourists. And NYC has a lot of violent people, crazy people, and homeless people who pee on themselves repeatedly and don’t wash their clothes. The local hostel is run with kindness and compassion, excellent boundaries, and safe protocol. They go over and above to provide a safe and fun environment. So they screen out all the dangerous and insane people. For example they kicked out a misogynistic victim blaming person etc... And LIC is a treat. It has some of the best views in the entirely of NYC- the boardwalk being a destination in itself. It’s very gentrified so it has nice restaurants, cafes, and nightlife (when nightlife is allowed). And there’s - rooftop with a magnificent view. Gorgeous industrial/ loft/ minimalist architecture and interior design and it's super clean. When the restaurant and bar is full again I’m sure to come back for dinner or a drink. The community is amazing and I’m sure they have a full line-up of events fir travelers. Enjoy! If you are in town.
