The Q4 Hotel (more a hostel than a hotel) is one of many hostels across all of NYC and one of the cheaper ones, by that we mean cheap for New York price as hostels in New York are not cheap at all, which is a huge appeal to the place. The Q4 is pretty easy to find within NYC being close to two subway stops that have easy and very regular direct links to Manhattan without having to change multiple times to get to Times Square and Port Authority. Obviously being in Manhattan is preferred for a NYC stay but to get a cheaper hostel, that isn’t as nasty as eating a mouldy bacon sandwich covered in your creepy uncle’s toenail clippings, is hard to get unless you go out-with Manhattan. You can’t complain about the Q4’s location at all. Within the hostel, it’s a reasonable stay. In the common room down in the basement holds a decent sized kitchen, a tv with a good old Netflix subscription, comfy couches, table tennis and vending machines. It’s generally a nice vibe and atmosphere down there that sometimes is host to some entertainment such as stand up comedy. To top off the common area there is a part in it that is basically a vault that is dimly lit at all times filled with comfy couches and cushions which is perfect to nap on and make those stand up comedians feel awkward by hearing your snoring during their gig. For full review check out link in my bio , much love trip advisor people xo

My boyfriend and I enjoyed our stay here. Its actually a hostel but we got a solo bedroom with tv, the bathroom was nice. There is also a common area with an entertainment. Good deal for an average place to stay in New york :)

Hostel staff overcharged my credit card and ignored my email when I attempted to politely ask for a breakdown. After sending a follow-up mentioning that I planned to contact my bank to have the charges reversed if they failed to respond, they threatened to permanently ban me from the hostel and shrugged off my request for a breakdown, telling me to check my receipts. So, I checked my receipts, which confirmed that I was overcharged. I sent two follow-ups, both which were ignored. tl;dr Prices may look appealing, but beware as the staff will attempt to scam you. If you can find accommodations anywhere else, do so. Otherwise, book at your own risk.

Location is nice for Bus, Metro, Subway users. Small green park : Dutch Kills Garden give you some comfort. Room is small with but found clean. Reception was helpful. The disadvantages is check in time at 4.00pm where as check out 11.00am. But their is arrangement for deposit luggage upto check in for free of charges. Absolutely for backpackers and who is for Night stays. Value for money.

Q4 is impressively a clean place (keep it that way Q4). Staff was friendly & helpful when asked directions/questions (except 1 who was focused on her phone than customer service). Guests in the room were so friendly (planning our next stay together). Q4 is located adjacent to train lines making access around NYC easy (ex: You can get to Time Square in 15 mins) although it’s 24-hr-train lines noise was unbearable. With all of that: I will stay at Q4 again making it a memorable one again 😀

This hostel is probably best for solo travelers, with easy access to public transportation. Subways across the street, ample buses run nearby. Generally younger crowd, and lockers on small side, but beds and showers are good, 24 hour food pantry around corner. 24 hour security and check in. Three floors, no elevator, kitchen and game room in basement.

Tight hostel accommodation, but en suite separated toilet and shower, worked for 8-man room. Best price in all NYC, very comfortable bed, and friendly front desk staff 24/7. Location easy access to E and 7 trains, can be in Manhattan in <20 mins. Easy walk to both main retail streets of Hunters Point in Queens (like all NY, take care at night, but surprisingly safe for major city). Done a really nice job with warm common space on basement level.

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOSTEL!!! An unknown man entered our female-only dorm in the early morning of the 18th of December, our day of departure. The man was very intoxicated and vomited in the room. Waking up to the sound of a male voice gagging in the darkness was very disturbing. This event prevented us from enjoying our last day in NYC since we were both sleep deprived and confused. My friend and I have both stayed in many international hostels. We understand when staying in a hostel you run the risk of having negative experience with the people in your room, to no fault of the hostel. However, we felt Q4 failed to fulfil its duty of care to provide us with a safe, clean and professional service. We felt that Q4 did not provide us safe lodging because the door to our room did not lock properly. We often returned to our room to find the door ajar. To fully shut the door, we would have to forcefully tug on the handle until it gave way with a loud bang. This is a problem because it means it put our belongings at a higher risk of theft and was dangerous since anyone could walk in while we were sleeping (in a female dorm!). We are lucky that the man that entered was not violent and did not take any of our things. It was not unreasonable for us to expect our room would lock and thus only be available to female residents with keys. We felt that Q4 did not provide us with a clean space since the vomit was left in the room for over an hour as we packed and prepared to leave (we do not know exactly how much longer it was left since we decided to check out early). After the Q4 employee asked the man to leave the room, she turned off the light as though to imply we were expected to return to sleep for the next few hours next to the vomit. This is an incredible health hazard in such a small and warm room with little air circulation. The smell alone made the experience unbearable. It would have been more appropriate to clean the mess immediately or relocate us. Finally, we felt that Q4 did not deal with the situation professionally. After the man was removed from our room, no-one ever returned to our room to explain the situation to us. We were never assured that the man was removed from the premises and that we were safe to leave our room. We spent the day assuming the man had wandered in to Q4 from the street. This man was a complete stranger and we no assurance of his identity or our safety. After all the fear and wondering, we took it upon ourselves to speak to the employee at the front desk when collecting our baggage. It has now been over a week and no-one has attempted to contact us to give any further information. I have since sent multiple emails to Q4 requesting an explanation and all my emails have been ignored.

Q4 was actually very nice, located only 10 minutes from midtown Manhattan on the subway and with easy access to JFK airport too. The hostel is colourful and clean, and the basement common area is awesome, enormous with a large modern kitchen, vending machines, sofas, tables and chairs and ping pong tables. The Wifi is decent and there is a small workstation spot in Reception to plug in laptops. There is also an ATM in Reception which charges less than most for using international debit cards. The dorm room I was in was nice, a bit cramped but with comfortable beds and large lockers. The bathroom was spacious and cleaned daily with a nice big shower. Unfortunately, a long-term resident staying in the room made it a less than savoury experience - the room constantly stank, his stuff was strewn everywhere and the guy must have had issues, he would talk to himself aggressively and unnerve the rest of us. Reception didn't seem to care, which leads me onto... The staff are either sweet but inept, or aloof and cold. No customer service whatsoever, unhelpful, and to top it off they charge $3 to hold your luggage for you after check out. Not great. Also, there is nothing at all nearby except for a Chipotle and Starbucks a 10 min walk away, so inconvenient if you want to go out to eat or buy food to cook. Also there is little to no atmosphere so not great for meeting people. I would return for sure, and recommend this place. Just don't expect a warm welcome...

It is easy to travel to New York city by subway. Station is very close to hotel. Staff is ok but not all of them very friendly and helpful. They did not even show me where is kitchen, common area, when I needed to get water they pushed me to buy the water from broken machine and i end up paying lots of money and could not even get one bottle of water. When I told them I really needed a water to drink (it was 35 degrees) they told me that they have free water in their kitchen for their guess.... Not very appreciated to stay in this hotel...
