Eight of us travelled to NYC four band members and our wives, we where booked into the Mayflower but when we arrived it was closed due to renovation work so we stayed across the road at the sister hotel well brother hotel the Howard Johnson for four nights. Basic but clean rooms TV not clean towels every day though !! We grabbed a couple off the trolley it’s a free breakfast but not much variety scrambled eggs sausages cereals pancakes bread jams tea coffee and juice Buffett service so you could fill up for the day. Good central location we walked over Queens bridge into Manhattan but cabs were $20 into the centre.

This is a pretty basic hotel but if you just need somewhere to rest your head for the night then I’d say it’s value for money. Upon arrival I found the night manager to be relaxed and helpful. Checking in was quick and easy. I was told when and where breakfast is served and how to find my room. The room itself was tidy and clean. Everything worked and the bed was firm and comfy. Every night I slept well. The shower was powerful enough to wash my long hair easily and the water was always hot. Breakfast was pretty basic but plentiful. The waffle machines made great waffles although having never used one before I did need help. There was bagels, bread (and a toaster), eggs (scrambled or boiled), Chipolata (thin and herby) sausages, coffee, orange juice and ice water on offer. As with most budget hotels get down to breakfast in good time because there’s usually a better selection. This is a basic hotel for budget travelling. The subway is a short walk and there are a few shops and restaurants at the end of the road. It’s a good place to stay if you want to get out and see the sights all day and collapse into bed last thing at night before doing it all again.

We stayed there for one night. The area, where this accommodation is located, is not a nice one! The room was not soundproof and you could hear the noice from the street as well as the noice in front of the room. The wifi was not working! I have no idea why they call this a boutique hotel! A room with not more than two beds, a TV and a nightstand has definitely nothing to do with that! The only positive fact is, that the room was clean. I didn’t want to try the breakfast. I will never ever stay there again!

Convenient location (two blocks to F subway). Ceramic floor tiles in the room is a plus. Room is very small, no refrigerator, no microwave, no space for luggage. Very clean room. My experience with Front Desk staff was very poor. You enter or leave the hotel and never say hello to travelers. They are always focused on their cell phones and when you ask for help, they seem somewhat annoying. I felt uncomfortable every time I asked them something.

Bad for so many reasons. Visited with mom, sister and husband. 1) Check in was unfriendly bordering rude/comical. 2)No one on the desk at night so anyone can just walk in off the street and did 3)We paid extra for breakfast which is served across the street in a sister hotel. It is very basic and I’ve had much better in 2 star hostels. The kitchen staff (two) did try their hardest though and were the only decent thing about this place. THE ABSOLUTE WORST thing though was that a fight broke out between two “guests” (or had they just walked in off the street for breakfast). The room is in the basement. Tables were thrown, people left via exits (that type of fight). I have a feeling they were on drugs due to the conversation. Anyway, we got upstairs to let the desk know and we got a ‘I’ll let housekeeping know’ (through some teeth sucking). Very poor attitude, we weren’t complaining at this stage, just concerned, and a lot of people checked out there and then, disgusted and stunned. We thought we’d try our luck and ask for a refund for the breakfast (we hadn’t really got the chance to eat our boiled egg!) and this took a few phone calls to the manager to see if this was ok and given very begrudgingly. No concern, no apology... just a terrible terrible experience. That said rooms are clean although tad small even for NYC.

There is a reason why this is so much cheaper than other hotels in NYC. It suited us as we are up and out of the hotel early and not back until late evening, so no frills needed. But that is exactly what this hotel is- basic. Other reviews are correct there is no storage for clothes... we had two hangers on a tiny pull out rail. The room is clean though and the bed large and comfortable. One of my main recommendations though- if you are in a room on the ground floor- ASK TO MOVE! The reception staff in the nights don’t appear to realise there are rooms near by. Each night of our visit, I was forced to go to ask them to be quiet as they were speaking loud on FaceTime or watching music videos on the reception computer at around 2am! It’s also worth mentioning that the hotel seems to be under construction, although no building work was done in 5 days we stayed. This means that our bedroom window looked out onto the new partly constructed building joined, which is lite up all the time regardless of work happening or not which meant our curtains being closed 24/7. The local links to Manhattan are good, with the closest subway station about a 5 minute walk. Great in the day, although the local area does seem somewhat more unsafe in the evening. Overall you pay for what you get! If your looking for a cheap, basic, clean hotel then this may do- if you want anything more give it a wide berth!

When I checked in they charged me 100 dollars more than I agreed to. The cable was down and the internet was slower than the old dial in days, less than 1mbps. What a waste of money. I couldnt even get change for the vending machine from the front desk

Originally we booked a standard queen room for a stay of over 2 weeks. This room was nicely decorated but way too small even to open luggage unless on bed & with decent sized bathroom. However no space but would be Ok for an overnight stay or a couple of nights but we needed to upgrade size wise to a king room ( extra cost) after a few days. This was a much better sized room. Note there is no fridge or tea/coffee making facilities in rooms. Basement has hot water, microwave and ice machine but inconvenient when you want a cup of tea at night. Good location with short 5 min walk to subway at 21st Queensboro Station that gets you into the Manhattan action within 15mins. Not much around Hotel but good Chinese around corner -called Friendly Chinese and laundry across road. This area has some new construction and will improve in time to a hotel precinct. Check room size before booking but overall good value for money. Great for us as we were out and about everyday and had a comfortable nights sleep. Staff at reception could improve on customer service by greeting guests and being happier in outlook - good housekeeping staff. Great Manhattan and Queensborough bridge views from rooftop and some rooms.

There seem to be some real horror stories about this hotel but our experience was absolutely fine. The room was small but modern with a good sized bathroom, beds and towels were changed every day, new toiletries were provided. The service provided by staff on the front desk was mixed; some was very helpful (Thomas) and friendly, others less so. The environs surrounding the hotel are are fine - it's not a touristy area so there aren't many facilities around but the metro is literally two stops from Manhattan so the prices offered by the hotel are a steal. The only thing we quibbled over was leaving our luggage for a few hours after checking out, as there is no separate room or cupboard for it.
