Lovely hotel with beautiful grounds. Roof is thatched. Room was large, comfortable, and quiet. Very accommodating and gracious staff. Small issue with our door .... which didn't close well. Had to really slam it to get it to lock (I think we were in Room 1 ... top of the first flight of stairs and to the far left...front of the hotel). Wifi in the room was a bit slow.

We arrived just after midday at this pretty hotel, with accommodation in thatched villas just outside Franschhoek, to a lukewarm welcome. We were told our room would not be ready until 2pm so we found our way to the terrace for a drink and a snack. The food arrived in huge portions (each would have fed 2 hungry people). We were not impressed by the service having witnessed a member of staff knock a glass off a table and make little effort to clear it up, leaving glass shards across the floor we’re walking to and from the swimming pool with bare feet. Just before 2pm we presented ourselves back at a busy reception to be ignored for half an hour. We eventually spoke to a member of staff who made some effort to check if our room was ready. She made an excuse that previous occupants had been late leaving. We were taken to the room on the top floor of one the villas and settled in. It looked pretty and comfortable with a good sized balcony. We were aware of some potential disturbance from the generator during load shedding. Unfortunately, this happened in middle of the night which meant we didn’t sleep well despite the bed being comfortable. None of the doors shut properly. The front door required slamming, which possibly disturbed our downstairs neighbours each time we went out. There was a shuttle bus to the town but this was not complementary or particularly reliable. We were astonished to be charged for bottled water at breakfast. Our planned pick up to leave arrived about an hour earlier than planned and although we had checked out and paid our bill we were not told this. Again we presented ourselves at reception about half an hour before it was due to be told our driver was waiting for us. Very disappointed at the poor service and quality in this pretty hotel that has so much potential to be fabulous.

Loved everything about the hotel: the style of the property, the thatched roof, the grounds and most importantly the views. We even saw an owl on the tree next to the swimming pool. The room was very spacious and spotlessly clean. We had meals in the casual restaurant and food was exceptional. Issak our waiter was an absolute star. Happy to advise on options available and always so professional. He made the whole experience even more enjoyable.

We were welcomed with a glass of fizz which always gets a bonus point from me. The site is quite sloping so there were steps from reception to the pool area and also to many of the rooms but of course the changes of level enhance the aesthetics of the gardens and ensure good views. Our room was spacious with a large terrace and a lovely view towards Holden Manz. Load shedding means the hotels noisy generators run for several hours each day which was a nuisance for the guests whose rooms were near them. Wifi is good in the main block but reception wasn't good in our room. The room was equipped with tea and coffee and water. The pool towels need to be requested from reception which was annoying as sometimes there was quite a wait for them to arrive; sometimes the towels were left ready on the sun loungers, a much better system. The restaurant is very good indeed and well worth booking. Breakfast choices are numerous and very tasty.

The hotel is beautiful. The service is amazing. I was there for 2 days for a conference and had no issues but an incredible experience. I had particularly amazing service from Sooli. When you are there, ask for him. I'll bring my family to this place.

Although the hotel facilities and rooms were nice, the food and some of the staff, really let the hotel down. This was the 4th hotel that we stayed at in our South Africa trip and was by far the worst. On entering the hotel, the staff were neither welcoming or particularly helpful. Although some of the food was edible, some of it was very poor. The breakfast buffet has plenty of variety but the presentation and quality of food, made it something that we decided best to avoid for the duration of our stay. Definitely won’t be back!
