Disappointing because the restaurant was closed for dinner due to lack of staff. Apparently it has not re opened after closing for Covid and only serves breakfast. Neighborhood looks very sketchy, did not feel safe to walk to a restaurant so I Ordered Uber Eats for dinner. Typically the hotel store/market sells beer and wine but this one did not. With the restaurant closed and the neighborhood being bad, it’s surprising to me that the market was not better stocked with food and drink options. Rooms are fine. Had to stay here due to flight cancellation. Hope I never need to stay in Newark again.

Dear kateeM1980, Thank you for taking time to review our hotel. We apologize for any inconvenience you experienced during your stay with us. At this time we are not open for dinner as the market has not fully recovered from the effects of the Covid shutdown. We are continually evaluating the situation and hope to reopen soon. As for the beer and wine, there is a local ordinance that prohibits us from selling alcohol in our market. While we are in a busy downtown city area, we have guests that regularly walk to local restaurants that we recommend. It is our hope that you will stay with us again when your travels bring you back to the area.

Nice hotel, but not in a good neighborhood and no restaurants or amenities nearby. Room was nice - king bed, sectional sofa for watching big screen TV, desk with task chair, little area with coffee maker and min fridge, plus standard bathroom with glass shower stall. Comfortable and quiet. Had a nice Starbucks coffee, bacon egg sandwich and a juice. Bit expensive but good. Otherwise nice hotel, just Uber as the parking garage or lot is not attached to hotel.

Dear TravelerofNJ, Thank you for taking the time to comment about your stay with us. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. We are located in the downtown section of Newark which is a busy part of town. There are several restaurants within walking distance to the hotel that we recommend visiting. There is also a parking garage attached to the hotel which is owned and operated by the Prudential Center. We hope that when your travels bring you back to the area you will stay with us again.

I travel the Jersey quite frequently for work and usually change up where I stay just to get a feel for the different areas around the airport. This time around I decided I'd stay at this location since it's in downtown Newark. My thought process was that being in downtown I'd have access to a lot of eateries, bars, etc.....typical of what you'd find in most downtowns of major cities......oh was I wrong.... If you don't already know, Newark is not exactly a bustling/thriving metropolitan. It's more like a haven for homeless people. It's basically a ghetto. Everything shuts down at night so my plan to hit some hip eateries or catch a couple of cocktails in the evening didn't happen and even if I wanted to there'd be a good chance I'd get robbed or assaulted. When you walk into the building the actual check in lobby is on the 2nd floor so you need to either take the stairs or ride the elevator up from the 1st floor lobby. 1st Floor lobby when you walk in smelled like urine so that already was a bad sign. Check in was pretty standard....attendant was neither rude nor cordial but rather robotic. I kind of got the feeling that they didn't exactly enjoy their job....but in their defense I find this to be pretty much the norm with hotels in the US. No mention or appreciation towards elite guests (I'm a Platinum Member) so if you expect anything extra for being elite don't plan on it here. The rooms, or at least my room, was modern and looked to be updated. This was probably the only redeeming part of the stay. Nice big flatscreen with internet tv and a comfortable bed. Another rarity was that the AC worked extremely well. So much so that I actually had to turn it off a few times since it got so cold. That's a good thing because I like my rooms cold. Internet was just plain awful. Even me being on the enhanced internet plan didn't do much. Outside of basic surfing and emails it was unusable. Streaming any sort of content was a task. This also translated to the internet tv they had. Everything was running as slow as molasses. Took forever to get a movie going on Netflix or to watch a video on Youtube. Iron Bound District is about a 15 - 20 minute walk away which is good. It's the Portuguese neighborhood and has loads of really good Portuguese and Brazilian restaurants. If you walk there I suggest either doing it during the day or taking a ride share for safety reasons but if at night I'd definitely stick with ride sharing it. Oh, and the free shuttle to the airport sucks. When I arrived I called the hotel from the airport to ask about the shuttle and was told to take the air train to P4 where hotel shuttles pick up guests. I was told the shuttle runs every half hour starting from the top of the hour. Stood at the stop at 5:15 expecting it to show up at 5:30.....nope never showed up. Meanwhile every other hotel shuttle passed by...sometimes twice! By 5:50 I called again and the desk claimed the shuttle was there at 5:30. I said no it wasn't cause I was there. Finally after my call all of the sudden the shuttle appears a little after 6. Obviously cause I called and basically complained. So when I left to the airport on my departure day I didn't even bother and took a Lyft ride. So yeah over all aside from the room itself I thought the hotel was pretty lackluster. Especially for the amount you pay. You would be better off staying at one of the other Marriott properties in Elizabeth Town near the mall. They are much newer and cheaper. Also, skip the Courtyard that's almost directly across from the airport. It's old as hell and just dumpy in general.

Dear Alex O, Thank you for your review. It's with feedback from guests like yourself that we can improve our services. My apologies that your stay was less than what you expected. We strive to make every guest's experience one they remember. It looks like we missed the mark during your visit. Newark is a major city and with that, has the types of things you will see in any major metropolitan area. We send many guests to the local restaurants and have not had any incidents reported. As far as our shuttle, I am sorry if there was any mix up with the times. It does pick up at the airport at the bottom of every hour. There are times where the shuttle could be delayed due to traffic. As we are not an airport property, we only have one van while other hotels closer to the airport may have several which is probably why you saw them multiple times. It is our hope that when you are back in the area you will give us another try.

I have extensively stayed in hotels in the NJ/NY area. So I can give you a very accurate review of this hotel. Plus: - Very nice renovated hotel. The rooms and common spaces are modern and super clean. - Very clean rooms with a fridge (microwave can be requested if available). Big rooms with lots of storage space. Big, renovated and super clean bathrooms. - Good sized smart tvs with lot of channels - Staff: housekeepers are very helpful and very nice. A+ Cons: - the neighborhood is super sketchy. - Front desk: slow process to check in. They could be and sound more enthusiastic. But still they were attentive and helpful - Snack machines are almost empty. Almost nothing to buy like they don't restock at all. So come with your own snacks. No paper plates, no free tea. - Check out info: the housekeeping staff, the front desk kept bugging me for checkout at noon when I had extended in the morning. So why not relay the info correctly? Also, at around 4.30 pm, a man who announced himself as Housekeeping was trying to get in my room. Despite the Do not disturb sign at the door. He kept asking when I was leaving by trying to force his way in the room . I'm a woman and I wasn't dressed! This should have never happened. In general, good experience. Would recommend.

I stayed here for one night as I had a 630a flight out of EWR, so it was quite convenient - quick 10min ride to Terminal C. Check in was quick and seamless as I was given room 634, a King size bed with a couch, overlooking the main drag. The room was clean and comfortable in traditional Marriott no frills fashion. Shower pressure was good, and the shower got hot quickly. The main downside is the location as it seems to be a pretty rough neighborhood although its right next to the Prudential Center. Again, I would only stay here if flying out of EWR given its convenience.

When my flight out of EWR was delayed I ended up here at Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Newark not only because it provided an airport shuttle but it was within walking distance of Penn Station which meant I can take a train to New York City, thus I can do some sightseeing without having to stay at some expense Manhattan hotel. Overall, I enjoyed my stay here and the service here greatly exceeded my expectations with the clean room, very comfortable bed, the available amenities, service from the front desk, and the location being near many good restaurants, pharmacies, and stores. I would surely recommend staying here rather than any of the hotels near the airport.

Stayed here because we had a concert at the Prudential Center. The hotel is right beside the Prudential Center which is great if you're going to an event there. Parking is $30 which was in the range we were expecting. Staff was great & check in & check out was simple & quick. Room was very clean & nice size. Bathroom was also spacious & very clean. Definitely satisfied with this place.

Did the job for an overnight stay from a flight delay. Clean and offered all amenities. Big king bed that was comfortable. Close to airporr, patio view was industrial. Has a cafe that offered starbucks. Shuttle only was picking up hourly at airport despite twice and hour claim.

Had to stay because of a missed plane. Pleasant staff and comfortable bed. Air conditioner was loud but room was modern and clean. Only stayed 6 hours so I didn’t get to see much. The bistro on site isn’t open on weekends late. Nice tea tree soaps included.
