The New Inn Coleford is a quintessential old, thatched, rural English inn set in a conservation village in the green rolling hills of mid Devon between Exmoor and Dartmoor, yet is only 20 minutes drive from the beautiful, cathedral city of Exeter. It has a large car park and lovely gardens with weeping willows by a stream. You'll find King beds, large fluffy bath towels and local food delicacies.

What a lovely surprise to find such a charming inn in the quaint village of Coleford. If ‘off the beaten track’ is what you are looking for, we highly recommend The New Inn’, established in 1350. The rooms are super spacious, and the food really tasty. Thank you Mark and Theresa for making us feel at home and so welcome.

If anybody has ever watched the John Cleese training videos about terrible customer service they would understand how I felt this evening (like was actually in one of these videos). If somebody is questioning the chips and is concerned they taste really strange with a metallic taste what would be a good customer service response? 1. We use maris piper potatoes, we chop them and triple cook them in oil that is changed once a week. I taste them all day and they are fine. 2. I am sorry to hear that I will immediately try and figure out what could have happened. For now do you want the boiled potatoes. The children’s chips seemed ok and I had eaten some with no problem. During the chip discussion which had replaced the preferred family chat, I sampled half a chip from an adult member of the group. My initial scepticism was replaced by a metallic tasting and burning throat. So my advice to the chef. If somebody gives you feedback then don’t be an idiot, open your ears and consider that maybe half a table of people are not lying but are trying to give you a heads up that something is wrong. No discount was requested, no complaints about the rest of the food. So don’t say “we’re trying” .. actually try and never let that chef do any kind of customer service again.

A very warm welcome. Nothing too much trouble. Rooms are clean and of a high standard with tasteful decor. Thoroughly recommend dining in the restaurant and breakfast has a good choice ,sourced locally and cooked to perfection! Wish we could have stayed longer- we will definitely return!

I booked the New Inn for lunch on a Tuesday (probably didn't need to book as it was quite quiet at that time). We received a warm welcome and loved Captain the parrot, who sits by the bar. The inn is very old and retains all of its charm. The beer garden area outside looked really nice as well. The location in the middle of the countryside is very quiet and I imagine it's a lovely peaceful place to stay. We had sandwiches for lunch, which were huge! The bread was nice and thick and there was plenty of filling, especially the fish finger one. The chips were absolutely delicious. I really enjoyed the Mediterranean vegetable sandwich as something different. I'd definitely recommend the New Inn for a stop-off if you're in the area.

We stayed one night en route to Cornwall and enjoyed a comfortable stay in a beautiful village. The hosts were friendly and worked incredibly hard. Breakfast was particularly enjoyable and really set us up for the day.
