Gili Lankanfushi Maldives is a short 20 minute boat ride from Male, the capital of the Maldives. It is a tiny coral island in a sparkling lagoon, with jetties threading across the water out to spacious villas. The forty four stilted villas plus the vast Private Reserve are crafted in a traditional style from natural materials and offer rooftop and over-water sundecks, featuring open air bathrooms, sumptuous daybeds and a personal entertainment center. For ultimate privacy, we have seven Crusoe Residences that are only accessible by personal boat. Gili was overwhelmingly recommended to us by a travel agent who specializes in the Indian Ocean. This was our first trip to the Maldives and we wanted to split our time (16 nights in total) across two "must experience" resorts in order to get a true sense of the very best and most unique resorts that the country has to offer, Gili being one of the "musts." We wanted to try a resort that could only be experienced in the Maldives, as we celebrated a very special birthday. We were sold on the description of a "Robinson Crusoe"-like paradise that has the food and service of a "7 star" resort. And we found Gili to exceed all our expectations -- it did not disappoint in any area. Absolutely heaven on earth. We were met at the MLE airport by a guide who escorted us directly to Gili's private launch (a 2 minute walk from the arrivals waiting area) to the dock -- to then take a 30 min boat ride directly from the airport to the resort (this is an advantage especially for those who want to maximize their vacation time, as most of the resorts require a seaplane transfer, which is a thrill, but the logistics of such take up a good chunk of your day). With Gili's speedboat, one conceivably could land and be at the resort in about an hour. Once on the island, we found everything to be designed with a highly tasteful rustic island vibe in mind -- the rooms and grounds are like a movie set of the most cleverly constructed facilities that fit harmoniously with the overall "castaway chic" style. We booked two over water Crusoe Residences, and we were over the moon. The rooms are huge (similar in layout to most of the other rooms), a single Residence could easily accommodate 4 guests. We went with two guests in one Residence and a single guest in the other - the Crusoe Residences, like most of the rooms at Gili, are made up of three pavilions all connected by decking -- there is a separate large bedroom w/bathroom pavilion (with a/c), a central living area pavilion (with a/c), and a separate main bathroom pavilion that is massive and features a large tub with views for days, as well as an outdoor shower "hut" of its own that you access from a thatched bridge (there is extensive privacy and the remoteness is such that no one can see you), then there is the large outdoor living area deck on the main floor, the roof-top second floor outdoor living area, and a hammock stationed out in the water. The Crusoe Residences are distinguished by one key feature -- there is no pier or deck connecting you to the rest of the resort. You are entirely surrounded by water. The effect is fantastic as you feel truly like a castaway. This set-up did not affect our logistics as the resort has a comfortable boat waiting on standby 24 hrs to take you ashore or back to your room at any moment. We also opted for a complementary small boat with an outboard engine (adorable wooden dinghies) - we loved ours and the freedom that dinghy gave us - highly recommended for anyone with a bit of boating experience. It's about a 5 min ride to the shore where we would beach our boat to take in the rest of the resort. We were told the food at Gili was exceptional and we were not disappointed. We are used to vacationing at hotels like the Four Seasons Hualalali (Kona, Hawaii) and Gili's food and service made the Four Seasons look and feel like a dump, without exaggeration, by comparison. The breakfast offering was expansive, with tremendous variety and excellent quality. We were assigned the same server throughout our stay, which is a great touch for consistency. Having breakfast daily with our feet I the sand was the best feeling - and there is not a bad table (nor bad room) across the resort. Each evening there was a different theme for dinner, and the quality was stupendous - the best Indian food we've ever had, for example. Almost any night, you can also opt for sushi at the Japanese restaurant, which was also exceptional and generous in quantity. I lived in Tokyo for two years and can say that the Japanese restaurant was outstanding. The food and beverage game at Gili is on a completely different level. We did multiple dive trips from Gili's dive center and found the staff to be kind and enthusiastic and the dives were memorable for the clear warm water and extensive marine life that the Maldives is famous for. While the diving was great, we thought the snorkeling around the resort was exceptional and ended up snorkeling a couple times a day. The staff can take you by boat to one of the many excellent snorkeling spots or you can use your private boat if staying in the Crusoe Residences, as we did. The spa was excellent -- large and facing the reef break where the waves crash off in the distance (very relaxing to watch) -- we booked massages each afternoon and were very pleased with the treatments. The spa has windows in the floor so while you are getting a massage, you can watch the fish below you, one of the many thoughtful touches. The fitness center has everything you'd need and the beaches (the island is one big beach) are spectacular. The service was top notch and our Mr Friday (butler) , Ishmael, was fantastic, we loved him for his good humor, and joyful yet professional attitude. Overall, the property is blessed with exceptional facilities, the natural beauty that is the Maldives, and incredibly friendly and attentive staff at every interaction (which can only come from excellent management--who were also very friendly, present and engaging with the guests), all of which, combined with the unique design and astounding food quality left us feeling like we had found Gili a "home" in our hearts -- a magical place that we will absolutely return. We can not recommend this one of a kind resort enough - whether for romance, or a family trip. Gili lives in our memories and we can not wait to come back. …

Having not been to Gili for a few years we felt cautious excitement in the hope it would live up to our wonderful memories from before. A different management team is now in place from our last visit. They are experienced and passionate about maintaining the luxury but relaxed atmosphere Gili provides and therefore still the best resort (in our opinion) in the Maldives. What you get is a luxury resort with laid back relaxed vibe. Walking bare feet with the sand beneath your feet at breakfast, lunch and dinner is paramount to that ultimate beach vibe so that in no time after arriving you feel like it’s home from home. The staff are all wonderful, always smiling and who go beyond the call of duty to make you feel valued guests. Our Mr Friday, Alif, and our server at kashivili, Webbe, were brilliant - kind & hard working who remembered our preferences and had everything ready for us as we arrived. Aoifa was warm, kind and couldn’t do enough for us and our son. She always had a smile on her face and couldn’t fail to put a smile on ours. I can’t forget the overwater bar and dive / eco centre aswell. Haley kindly accompanied us on a snorkel trip and pointed out turtles, an octopus and a moray eel amongst other things that we would probably have otherwise missed. The senior management are also ever present and approachable so don’t shirk responsibility if any issues arise. Since our last visit the resort have planted a lot of sea grass so the abundance of wildlife has grown. Numerous sharks, rays and turtles seen on a daily basis. The food was fabulous - thank you to chef Hari for the variety, flavours and dining experiences - again he was visible throughout our stay and genuinely interested in providing top class food every day. What Gili gives you is a relaxed ‘robinson crusoe’ vibe. It’s not bling. I imagine most guests have access to high end accessories at home - this resort is the antithesis to that and we come here for that reason. What you don’t get is that feeling of being completely isolated because there are other islands and resorts visible however it doesn’t diminish the overall experience and a small price to pay for the bohemian luxury that Gili offers.…

Perfect place for a honeymoon of your dreams! The villas are stunning, staff is amazing and so accommodating. They made our stay incredibly comfortable and unforgettable. Alif-our designated Mr. Friday paid attention to every word coming out of out mouth and made it a point to make it happen for us by the end of our trip. The diving team on the island should also get a special place in this review. Lena and Nick showed us the best diving spots in the area and took a great care of us. They all get 5 ⭐️

Amazing location for a Maldivian honeymoon! The villas had everything we could have asked for plus plenty of rays and other fish swimming by. The service was incredible, led by our Mr. Friday, Alif. He went above and beyond to ensure we had a truly unforgettable experience. The diving was also outstanding thanks to Nick, Lena and the rest of the dive center staff. I can't imagine a better first trip to the Maldives!

몰디브에서 로맨틱한 허니문을 즐기기에 최고의 장소! 멋진 리조트 디자인과 수중환경, 맛있는 식사, 퀄리티 높은 익스커션, 멋진 직원들까지! 컨셉에 충실하고 친환경적인 정책이 매력적입니다😊 라군빌라 3박+빌라스윗위드풀 2박했고 풀이 있는 빌라는 더울때 중간중간 들어가기에 좋았지만, 뷰나 수심은 라군빌라가 더 좋았어요. 다음에 다시 간다면 한 숙소에서 쭉 머무를것 같아요! 스피드보트존임에도 수중환경 정말 좋습니다, 블루탱, 피카소트리거, 블루핀 등 물고기들은 정말 머리 집어넣으면 있고 가오리와 아기상어도 하루에 2-3번 이상은 봤어요! 진짜 너무 신기하고 기분 좋은 경험이었습니다. 우리의 Mr.Friday Alif가 리조트에 도착한 날부터 떠나는 날까지 섬세하게 케어해줬어요. 가장 인상 깊었던 건 레이트 체크아웃을 요청했을때인데, 시간표를 만들어서 저희가 최대한 편하게 리조트에서 머무를수 있게 계획한 점이었어요. 떠나는 마지막까지 리조트 내에서 편히 있게 배려해주고 보트가 출발할때 딱 맞춰 선착장에 내려다주었습니다. 몰디브에서 하루하루를 어느 신혼부부보다도 알차게 보냈다고 자부할 정도로 다양한 익스커션을 경험했어요. 돌고래 크루즈, 스쿠버다이빙, 터틀 스노쿨링과 와인테이스팅 그리고 스파 마사지까지! 배타고 나가는데 일단 인원이 적게 세팅되어서 정말 프라이빗합니다. 돌고래는 100마리는 본 것 같고, 매부리바다거북도 4마리 봤어요. 특별한 경험이었습니다. 스쿠버다이빙은 처음 해보는거라 겁먹었는데 Dive center의 Lena와 한국인 직원인 Sohee가 잘 케어해줘서 수심 12미터까지 내려갔어요! 티칭의 퀄리티가 높아요. 물 좋아하시는 분들께 적극 추천합니다. 와인 좋아하시면 Wine tasting도 정말 추천드립니다. 지하 와인셀러에서 소믈리에 Gayan과 함께 진행했어요! 와인에 대해서 궁금한거 아무거나 물어봐도 재밌게 잘 대답해줍니다. 참 편안하고 알딸딸한(?) 시간이었습니나. 스파도 정말 녹아내려요! 스파 다 받고나서 로맨틱배스를 여기서도 진행할수 있는데 하겠냐고 해서 냉큼! 미라스파에서 진행했습니다. 뷰 진짜 좋고 몸은 따뜻한데 바람은 시원하고~ 칵테일 마시며 월풀스파 했어요! 식사는 하프보드여서 조식은 뷔페에 원하는 음식을 주문할 수 있어요. 식사를 케어해줄 직원도 배정되는데 저희 부부는 Telsa라는 직원과 인연이 되었어요! 정말 친절하고 유머러스하고, 몰디브음식에 자부심이 있는 친구라 여러 몰디비안 음식을 경험해보았어요! 제 남편은 몰디브스프에 반해서 매일 아침마다 먹더라고요! 또, Tesla는 엄청난 포토그래퍼 입니다. 덕분에 예쁜 사진을 많이 얻었어요! 저녁은 매일 컨셉이 바뀌는데 저희가 있었을 때는 스페인 코스/아시안푸드마켓/브라질리언바베큐/몰디비안 코스/지중해식 뷔페 였습니다. 정말 퀄리티 높은 음식들로만 구성이 되어있고 직접 만들어주기 때문에 아주 따뜻하고 신선해요. 몰디브 꼭 재방문 할거예요! 길리 랑칸푸시 덕분이 행복하고 잊지못할 신혼여행이 되었습니다. absolutely love this place it's an amazing one I call it my dream paradise ❤️❤️ it is beyond my expectations every thing was welcoming and well prepared 👌especially Mr. Friday "Alif" he is one of the reasons that I will come back for, he makes everything more easier and smooth I give him 5/5 of course I will not forget “Wabbe” and “ Iray” they were really excellent hosts they know what I really want befor I ask their service is 5/5 According to spa I had an unforgettable experience with “ Yoko” She was expert I almost addicted her Massage I really recommend her I will come back with My daughters to live the same dreamy experience

Absolutely astonishing and breathtaking. I've never met such a friendly staff especially wabbe, irey, and miflal. everyone was super nice. Its was one of my hardest farewells. My only recommendation is to never leave And to choose alif as your concierge he is perfect.

The resort exceeded my expectations in every aspect. It's has a natural and sustainable concept, shoes free, no plastic, organic island grown crops, even the rooms built with natural elements. The best part is the service the staff are very friendly, welcoming and helpful from Abdullah to Irey to Miflal especially our assistant (Mr Friday) Alif he made the trip even better than it already is.

I'm touched that Gili made an unforgettable honeymoon. Ms.Friday, Shaany took pretty pictures and helped us get along comfortably. All the staff were very kind and felt a warm heart. Especially Raambow👍🏻, Ali👍🏻, Boe, Tesla, Iman, Sohee! Also, the house was very well managed, so I could use it comfortably. Gili Lankanfushi is the best accommodation I've ever been to!
