First impressions......polite greeting and shown to our table in party room....OK...Booked for a meal when seated at table, noticed no napkins..presumed an oversight but on arrival of meal still no napkin..service unprofessional...food OK.. Someone on our table went to toilet and got paper towels. When mains were taken away explained we had no napkins, she said there should have been.. desserts came out still no napkins..sorry basic things and you failed miserably......

Very nice hotel, perfect location for visiting the North East. The hotel is clearly undergoing an upgrade as some parts of it are a little tired and a lot of the public areas look brand new. Our room was very good and we enjoyed walking around the extensive grounds and relaxing in the leisure club. The location being within a couple of minutes of the A1 meant we could easily visit many memorable places.

Stayed for one night for a spa break. The hotel is well connected by bus from Darlington centre. The bus stop is on the main road (ask for Forrester's Arms) then a 7-10 Mon walk down the road to the hotel. As we were unable to check in until 3pm we took lunch in the very quiet restaurant overlooking the golf course then headed straight to the spa (separate building) for our treatments. The staff were very friendly although the health club is incredibly tired with condensation and mould on the windows, a rather heavily chlorinated, grubby pool with peeling plastic on the edges and an out of order jacuzzi. The sauna was nice and hot although didn't use the steam room. Treatments were nice with lovely knowledgeable staff. Clean towels and robes provided. Heading back to the hotel to check in, we were provided with twin room no.7 which we'd hoped was allocated following our request for a quiet room. It soon became clear that this is not at all a quiet room thanks to the location directly above the kitchen, a very vocal chef who likes to shout rather than speak and sing at the top of his voice, accompanied by some foul language made for a rather disturbed evening. We did mention to the reception staff on two occasions and the lovely Mandy said she'd have a word with him as previous guests had also complained about the noise. We were assured that the kitchen closes at 9pm and the noise will cease. It remained noisy until around 10pm unfortunately, with music pumping and his terrible foghorn voice blaring out above the tv volume in our room. The room itself is tired, but maintains its charm. Very old furniture, traditional furnishings and an old carpet isn't to our taste. Nor were the very cold single layer windows (this is the case throughout the hotel) which meant we had to keep the curtains closed and the heating up high to remain comfortable. The bathroom was clean but needed some TLC - two dead spiders on the ceiling, some hair dye stains on the grout and a partially blocked plughole. Unfortunately we had forgotten to bring toothpaste which is an absolute necessity. However, the lovely Mandy on reception was kind enough to source some from another guest for us which saved the day. What an absolute gem she is! Mandy also greeted us on checkout and we for to meet her gorgeous Cockapoo Bertie who kindly gave us some cuddles. Taxi back into Darlington was £9. Overall an okay stay only made good by the wonderful staff (bar the noisy chef). Not sure we'd return as we felt the price was expensive for such a run down hotel.

Went to hall Garth for a half day spa package with the wife and from entering the leisure club, it was downhill fast. The spa is so dated and not the size of other competitors spas. Pool is small and looks grimy. The only positive of the spa was the sauna and steam room which still wasn’t amazing. Women’s showers didn’t work so my wife couldn’t rinse off. Then there was the utter disgrace of lunch (included in the spa break) got to the restaurant and the chef had apparently closed the kitchen at 12:25. It’s lunch for crying out loud not brunch. Got treat with disgust by the waitresses and then had to wait 30 minutes for a tasteless panini. Oh and no lime for a corona!? How does a hotel this big not have limes??

Filthy, scruffy, dirty hole. it would have been better to just go to our local swimming pool and use the facilities there. This place has a small pool (filthy poolside) and a small steam room and small sauna at the poolside. Needs an overhaul. Not impressed

I stayed here when I attended a family wedding. I wouldn't call it a 'posh' hotel and my room was in the stables. It was a maze of corridors and passageways and I got lost a few times. Even so, I had a lovely time and when it was time to leave, it was a short and easy walk along the lane to the main road for the local bus to Darlington.

Well, firstly the price of the holiday was unbeatable. The hotel staff esp the leisure side was very accommodating and well looked after. The food quality was good and well presented. But the condition of the room has to be modernised esp the carpet, dated and desperately needed a v good clean. Nevertheless there is a cracking 9 holes golf course design for all standard build with the hotel complex. The course was not overly long so this made it fun playing with my kids and parent. Most of the member which I met during my time there was welcoming. But there was a group of 3 who were both rude and poor understanding of the etiquette of the game. I cannot believe it that there can be 4 groups at one of the hole waiting for them to finish. Basically 4 of us has to wait at least 10 min per shot for a 3 balls. 👺. I think this has to be addressed. Very slow play indeed.

2 day work event including 2 nights' accommodation, conference, meals and tea & coffee breaks. Staff were all unfailing polite, helpful & understanding. Only reason I didn't give them a higher rating is that some of the Stables rooms need a little TLC - I'm told the project to address these issues is in progress.

My wife and I booked a weekend break here. Upon arriving at the car park it was good to see there was plenty of parking. When we went to check in the reception staff didn't really know about the offers included in the booking such as a free bottle of wine and had to show them our booking confirmation and screenshots to the package we had booked. Our room was on the top floor and whilst generally clean except the inside of the windows. The room was very tired with torn curtains, the bathroom door didn't close properly, the extractor in the bathroom didn't work. The bed was a double which whilst not inaccurate is unusual not to be a king size or larger in this day and age. It meant for a cozy two nights sleep. On our first night we went into the bar area before dinner for a drink or two. We noticed that quite a few tables had spilt drinks on them along with many dirty glasses. Some of the drink had run on to the floor. It wasn't the most welcoming sight. Having had dinner we returned to the bar for a night cap and we were surprised to see the same spilt drinks, glasses and liquid on the floor. There was a wedding on but it wasn't busy in the bar area, that said staff were often nowhere to be seen. Sometimes it was a 5-10 minute wait just to be served. The main positive was the food and staff in the restaurant. The waiting staff were generally polite and attentive. The food was surprisingly good too and had no complaints on this front. Would we stay again, probably not unless we knew for sure the hotel had been updated, deep cleaned and increased staff numbers.

Very friendly staff. Good breakfast apart from the inevitable broken coffee machine. Why do hotels have coffee machines - they always breakdown! Pool and jacuzzi could have been warmer but we enjoyed a swim
