Nautic Apartments is on the Kut side of Vis town, which makes it worthwhile to pay for the pick up/drop off service, so you don't have to drag your luggage 10 minutes. But the apartment's location is a plus - it's in a cute part of town, near some great restaurants, and it's a pleasant, scenic stroll to anywhere else in Vis (20 minutes max to the farthest end of town).
The Apartment was clean, spacious enough, the shower had good water pressure, and we slept great to the sound of the waves just 10 feet away. We even used the kitchenette one night to make some pasta and used the fridge to keep milk for our breakfast cereal. (There's a grocery store just four minutes to the left of the Nautic Apartments.) They also have a friendly family dog who is available for petting by request. (A big amenity when you miss your dog at home!) The four guest rooms are located on one hall on the middle floor of the building, and the door at the end of the hall opens onto a large shared balcony with several tables and a fantastic view in three directions.
Once we got to Vis, we found that the bus to Komiza ran pretty infrequently, but there are many tourist agencies in town that will be happy to rent you a car, motorbike, or bicycle to get where you want to go (though if you want to leave Vis town, you probably want something with a motor - this island is hilly!). We loved seeing the various beaches around the island and took a boat trip to the blue cave on Bisevo. But we also loved reading on the balcony at Nautic Apartments and watching the sunset and sunrise from our room's window. You can't overrate a good balcony! Or good service. I would definitely stay here again.
Another evening I wanted to go out to the balcony to watch the sunset, and a woman (I'm assuming the wife of the owner) gave me a really hard time about walking on her freshly cleaned floors. I'm sorry to have disturbed her cleaning, but I don't think I should be made to feel bad about spending time on the lovely balcony, especially when it is open to the guests.
I always hesitate to write bad or mediocre reviews because I know that on a small island like Vis, every traveler and guest helps pay the bills. I think the Nautic Apartments are a great place, but for the price, I'd like to see a bit more service and comforts, especially when directly asked.
Vis, however, is a great place to visit with some fantastic restaurants. I like that the apartment is really directly in between the two sides of the city (5 minute walk to one side and 10 minutes to the other). There are two small beaches within walking distance (20 minutes or so), and you can swim right out of the front door of the apartment if you choose.
We stayed in A1 and the views from the shuttered windows were equally as impressive.
There are great restaurants within a stones throw but the apartments also have facilities to eat on the terrace which we would thoroughly recommend.
Drazen was the perfect host and made us feel very welcome. Couldn't speak highly enough about this apartment. When we come back to Vis we will be sure to stay again!
The building itself is outside the main part of town. It's a bit quieter and about a 10 minute walk from the "downtown." There is a grocery store, pastry shop, baker all within a short walk. There is also an excellent restaurant, where the tables are arranged in the garden of a several hundred year old house, just around the corner.
Drazen advised us that the best way to see the island was to rent either a car or a motor bike as the island is extremely hilly. We took his advice and rented a scooter from a place a few minutes away. With me and my girlfriend on scooter it struggled on some of hills, but we ultimately got to the town on the other side of the island, Komiza. It's a bit smaller than Vis, but a nice town for a short visit. We continued to the interior of the island and found the road that leads to the top of Mt. Hum, the highest point of the island. We stopped at a path that lead up to the cave from which Josef Tito and the English maintained a command post during World War II. We left the bike at the base of the path and walked the rest of the way as the road becomes quite steep. The view from the top is amazing. Looking west we could see the outlines of land that we believed was Italy.
On the way down the mountain we pulled into a local farm. A woman greeted us and took us into her store where she sold her own wine, olive oil, liquor, etc. We bought a few liters of wine and had lunch with her under her grape vine.
We went for swims by the apartments when we returned. Drazen's dog, Uggi, sat with us while we read. For dinner that night we made pasta with some fish I bought at the local store, and some fresh bread w/ olive oil. The patio looks out on the water and is incredible.
Drazen is an excellent host. Vis and Nautic Apartments was the highlight of our trip to Croatia! Definitely a great place to stay.
"Only 4 rooms, 2 have full sea views, the others just on the side, but they do have the terrace right outside, but not a problem."Read full review
