The location is great. A very quiet neighborhood with lots of good bicycling to be found and the nicest thing about the location is the Lakeside private beach that is a short walk down the steps from the lodge— Great beach, not overly crowded even on the Fourth of July. The staff is very attentive, friendly and helpful. We were delayed and arrived late, and they were most accommodating. The amenities such as coffee in the morning and an available, very reasonably priced breakfast in the mornings as well. The beds were very comfortable. The lodge architecture Is appealing, old school turn of the last century, lots of local Pine used in the construction. We had two rooms booked for my family. The rooms were very nicely laid out and comfortable, and the rooms at the front of the lodge had fine views out towards the lake. Overall we had a great stay.

First off, the property was beautiful, like stepping back in time. And the private entrance to the beach was perfect particularly since we're still doing our best to social distance. Great way to have a weekend away safely.

The staff was awesome! We didn't realize that cell reception can be spotty in area so we couldn't call a rideshare. We called the hotel to get a list of local taxi companies and the sister hotel sent their housekeeper to pick us up! I'm not saying you should expect this, it's slow due to COVID so he had the time and they were gracious enough to help us out.

We also got help from the front desk ordering food because of the previously mentioned cell phone issue.

This historic hotel is beautifully located on a quiet road, close to downtown New Buffalo, and right across from their private beach. The hotel is over 100 years old! The common areas include rocking chairs, reading materials, a selection of games and puzzles, a frog pond, and fire pit. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The rooms are a bit on the smaller side but ours was used mainly for sleeping as we were so busy exploring and having fun! I would also like to add, this is the cleanest hotel I have ever stayed in, hands down. The cleaning staff works very hard to keep it that way, and I am so appreciative to them.

What a gem! Cool historic resort complete with creaky floors and tricky locks. Tucked into a nice neighborhood and only a 100 steps down to the lake, it's an experience to "live" for a couple days with others who will eat with you, play board games, sit in the living room or porch, take a walk with or do some yoga with on the beach. You definitely sleep and wake when everyone else does. Breakfast was really good, but it's not much if you are used to a larger breakfast. Not many restaurants nearby and they close early - so plan ahead. Beach is spectacular! We stayed on the first floor - if we stay again, I'd try for the top floor hoping for a more quiet night.

Staying here is stepping into the 1920s with ambience, decor, and experience of past times when travelers were considerate, friendly, and enjoyed conversation (if you wished). Guests were encouraged to light a fire in the fireplace if weather permitted, quiet hours were respected, and voices were subdued. You will hear footsteps, floorboards squeak, and doorknobs turn. No coffee before 8am. Water pressure and temperature, excellent. Very clean. Period furniture comfortable. Don't bother with a breakfast order as the kitchen will give you whatever is in the fridge at the time without an apology or explanation.

Shocking this place hasn’t been stut down. Clearly has leaked a long time with no repairs made due to the large pieces of paint peeled from the ceiling.
Mold/mildew smell
Absolute disappointment
There’s no coffee shop or deli, no gardens, and the pond to walk around is not much bigger than a mud puddle
Not at all what we were expecting
Tons of stairs, uneven floors
Furniture too small to sit in
Sparse accommodations

And if you want to go to the beach they state they’re close to, be prepared to go down 97!!!!!! Stairs

Unbelievable

And yes we’d booked on line to be sure we had a reservation, but it was clearly misrepresented

Not quaint or cool—simply outdated with no repairs made

We walked in, immediately asked for our money back
And left
Headed to a motel—never ever have done that before

Owner is argumentative and defensive

I’d never recommend this to anyone

Response from Samuel Darrigrand, General Manager at Lakeside Inn
Responded 8 Sept 2023
Ok, I think I figured out who posted this. FOR ALL THOSE READING THIS, WE DO NOT HAVE TVs IN OUR ROOMS. Just know that. We try to let everyone know but some folks miss it. And then when they arrive and their husband can’t watch Sports Night, then they start looking for problems. I’m sorry that you didn’t realize we are a place to Unplug. We’re not for everyone, but we’re definitely not as described in this review. Except the stairs to the beach, that part is true. We are on a dune 80’ above the lake, hence the stairs. By the way, there’s not 97, more like 134, and our beach is worth every step.

Great location, beautiful place. The rooms are on the "functional" side, but the beautiful hotel is a gem. There are no TV's in the rooms or guest areas, so it's a place to find a spot in one of the many seating areas downstairs and read a book, do a puzzle, or chat with other guests. I don't think this would be a place for kids or teens, but great for adults. There are a lot of stairs down to the beach, but they have done a nice job with landings and benches at various points to make the climb easier.

I've left a detailed review of this inn previously but I wanted to specifically make a comment regarding our most recent stay. There was a group who was very loud and inconsiderate, and didn't wear masks in the common area as everyone was supposed to. HOWEVER, my point is that my husband and I, as well as my friends and I, have stayed here many, many times and that has never happened before. Obnoxious people can show up anywhere, so if you have such an experience, please give this place another chance. We have always, previously, encountered courteous people and even groups and enjoyed the peaceful, relaxing, historic atmosphere a stay at this inn always provides, even when fully booked. It's close to so many things to see and do, including the beach just across the street, and it is so charming and in a beautiful setting. Truly one of my favorite places to get away from it all!

If you are a high maintenance person that expects every modern convenience, this place is definitely not for you. However, I loved it! It is one of the most interesting places I have ever stayed. You could spend hours browsing through decor and the surrounding property taking in all the visual stimulation. And the lake is right across the street! Everyone is so friendly too. I booked a return trip before I left. I have never done that before in my life. Highly recommend!

Wife and I stayed for one night on Thursday, 7/30. Beautiful old inn with the creaky wood stairs and fllors; very Adirondacks-ish. Can only imagine what this was like back in the 40's -60's with the ballroom and bands. Right now the ballroom is a very large game/reading/relaxing area. Lots of games, puzzles, couches, chairs, etc. to relax in. The lobby area is also a great place with couches and chairs for relaxing. Fireplaces in both. We had room 20 which was a 2nd floor, NW corner room. Queen bed, 2 chairs and table, dresser, small bath, with A/C and old radiator heat. Front porch is like a mini-version of the Grand Hotel on Mackinac with a line of rocking chairs, tables, lighting and flags. The beach is nice, but just be prepared to climb back up all the stairs that you take to get down to it; it really isn't that bad. The back of the hotel has a couple areas for grilling, a nice pond area to relax, and a fire pit. I thinks there's also a gym and sauna on the lower floor, but we didn't check it out.
Just a great place to unplug and get away from it all...to go back in time.

Sorry my answer is so late. There is no elevator in the building. There are no TVs in rooms but there is a TV in one of the common areas, though I’ve never seen it being used. When we visited everyone in the common areas was required to wear a mask but that was before so many people were vaccinated - not sure what the current policy is.
