We were pleasantly surprised with our accommodations at the Jolly Rose! The room was super clean (my #1 priority!) and roomy and the staff was great. And we appreciated the coffee maker in the room. A few updates are needed (TVs, refrigerators), and the lack of wifi was painful, as we didn't have any internet service. We'd stay here again.

Found this place just by eating at the restaurant next door. Was pleasantly surprised by the generosity of the staff. The room was great and large enough for us to be very comfortable. Will stay here again if afforded the opportunity, as they have just 8 rooms. Small U P town with great manners and hospitality.

We stumbled on this place on our way through last year and decided to give it a try. Very pleasant surprise! Great owner, clean rooms, very comfortable beds. Excellent food next door, and small store across the street. A hidden treasure to be sure! Rates are great!!

The room was nice and homey. Rose was very welcoming and made sure everything was ok for us. There is no wi-fi but there is at the restaurant next door. We didn't go over there. A convenience store is across the street as well. Rose doesn't accept credit cards. Room had a fridge and microwave. If in the area we will be back.

Loved this cute motel! Rose and her dog Pete are awesome. The rooms are spacious and Rose makes sure you have everything you need. My only complaint is that they advertise Wi-fi when it isn't available. The restaurant next door has it but it's very slow. I like to watch Netflix when I go to sleep, impossible to do with no internet or phone service.

Rose and her dog Pete are so friendly and I love how close it is to the refuge. The rooms are rustic with air and a small fridge. They aren't fancy but I don't need/want fancy. The Jolly In Restaurant is right next door which is also convenient for meals between trips to the refuge.

My stay at the Jolly Rose was the best stay I can ever remember having in a motel. It was very inviting, well stocked, and homely. Prior to my stay here, I had been to several motels which had check out times of 10AM. As if that wasn't bad enough, I was met with imposing lists of do's, don'ts, and threats. One such motel in the next town threatened a $250 "cleaning fine" if caught smoking in the room. Nothing like a long list of rules and threats posted right there on the door to make someone feel at home. The Jolly Rose, on the other hand, was very inviting and friendly. The bathroom was comfortably overstocked with plenty of soap and towels; and the room was furnished not only with a coffee maker, but plenty of coffee to boot. The checkout time was a very reasonable 12 PM - and the only rule I remember seeing was a very kindly written plea not to use the towels to clean off the snowmobiles (hardly an imposing threat). I stayed there 6 months ago, and still remember how nice it was - so I just had to write a review. Thank you Jolly Rose for a very nice night

Clean and comfortable. My family was very happy to stay at the Jolly after a long day of exploring Picture Rocks. I will stay here next time in the UP.. Next door you can eat great food at the Jolly Inn. Great Place!

When I made reservations, Rose indicated that she doesn't accept credit cards, just cash or check, but held a room for us by giving her my name. When we showed up, Rose and Pete (the adorable dog!) greeted us. We chatted with Rose for a bit. She told us a little about the motel, the happenings at Jolly Inn next door and possible plans for a bonfire behind the motel the following evening (it rained so no bonfire, booo!). There were three available rooms and she allowed us to choose whichever one we liked best. We chose number 4 because it had a couch in it (not all room do). Our room was spacious enough and very clean. Our room had a microwave, mini fridge, small dining table, coffee table, and small coffee pot with complimentary coffee. The bath towels are the softest towels ever! There was no internet but you can get free Wi-Fi next door. The Direct-Tv in the room was nice for relaxing before bed. Right across the street is a little store that sells all the basic necessities and they are open early and stay open late. Next door to Jolly Rose is the Jolly Inn restaurant and bar (which we ate at twice). And just down the street is the Seney National Wildlife Refuge which was really nice. The motel sits right on the main road but I really didn't notice too much road noise at all. All in all, we loved our stay and would most definitely stay again at the Jolly Rose. They are pet friendly so if you need a place to stay with your dog(s), they are very welcoming. Top notch service and great rooms!

The Jolly Rose does not take credit cards....cash or check. Nice space in room, with two double beds, microwave, fridge, sofa, table chairs. Pet friendly! Non-smoking! You need to know there is no daily room attention (for stays up to 3 nights) from Rose, unless you request. We happen to read the sign on the room wall with that info a little late, so ended up taking our trash to the dumpster each day. We were not verbally informed of that policy when checking in. Also, only one small towel bar which makes multiple towel uses a challenge. Internet is available next door at the Jolly Inn. Overall, a good, clean place to stay and we would return.
