I am currently staying at the Kenran, When we first arrived at the Kenran the room stunk of mold/damp and the bed sheets where damp, they did end up moving us room but even now we have moved we are constantly woken up to the sound of pipes and the building groaning. The room is cleaned every day but rubbish is constantly left around the room, even pushed under cupboards to hide it. Considering the hotel is meant to be 5 stars, the food is subpar we had breakfast one day and had to send back half of what we ordered and leave without eating as we had a shuttle booked. We ordered the 3 mini burgers & the soft shell crab for lunch & they brought out pork belly instead & there was a hair inside the actual burger meat so we had to send this back, we have now refused to eat here since. Room service is available with an extra delivery charge per item, in all the other hotels we have stayed at in Bali not a single one has done this although they were lower rating and at much cheaper rates. The restaurant staff are inattentive, constantly standing in large groups talking and the only way to get served is to walk past them and speak to the cashier. There is no quality of service and compared to the other hotels we have stayed in on this trip it is very disappointing. There is also no entertainment, nightlife or activities throughout the entire hotel when we came last year, we stayed in 3 different 5-star hotels, all of which had loads of activities or entertainment options, and the service was always outstanding. When we arrived, we were shown times for yoga which is on every day we were told just to call and book the day before, we called up the next day and booked for the following day. On the morning when we called to arrange a buggy, they told us the yoga had started half an hour earlier than we were told so we went back to bed, 15 minutes later they called and told us the yoga class is waiting for us. We had our class and was then told afterwards there would be a charge of £10 per person, this was the first time we had been notified after arranging it a day earlier, calling multiple times and asking for information upon arrival. If we had known this beforehand, we wouldn’t have even bothered as it is much cheaper round the corner from the hotel and is usually included in a 5-star hotel. The hotel has nice views from the room but is run down elsewhere, surrounded by stagnant waterlogged rice fields. There are pool tiles missing in places leaving sharp edges which has even cut my foot. Also there is green moss growing round the edges of the pool and blatant mold around the walls of the hotel, it has even been painted over in places but to no avail as the walls are still peeling. Worst of all is the shuttle/taxi situation. The hotel offers a free shuttle to Ubud centre twice a day, 10am & 3pm and does not offer return journeys. Grab and Gojek are banned in the area, just 50m down the road from the hotel there is a group of local taxi men who intimidate and threaten online taxi drivers not allowing them near the hotel, what's even worse is the hotel support this, they will book a taxi and take half for themselves. This is made worse by the fact the local taxis will try and charge 3-4 times the price of the online taxi services, we understand the need to support local taxis but it must be at a competitive rate. We have not had this issue elsewhere in Bali and it was nothing like this when we came last year. Yesterday we called at 1pm to book the shuttle for 3pm but where told it was already booked by 4 others and only 1 of us can travel. We suggested waiting till the shuttle returned but where told it only goes twice a day. After going back and forth with them they offered we can either pay £10 for a taxi to the centre (less than £4 on grab), or alternatively they can squeeze us into the taxi with the other 4 without seatbelts for everyone. This left us appalled as what sort of hotel ,never mind a 5-star hotel, would suggest to put their guests at risk for their convenience. If the shuttle was to have crashed and was over overloaded with people who would be to blame? The fact that a hotel that holds upwards of 50 guests only offers a one-way shuttle twice a day with a max of 5 passengers bewilders us. When we asked to speak to a manager about this, we were passed from pillar to post and had our issues dismissed each time, even being laughed at by staff when we asked to speak to a manager. Eventually we were told the manager was at a sister hotel and they would pass along our WhatsApp number for them to contact us. 4 days on from that we have yet to have any contact and have contacted reception multiple times to remind them. Reception staff also speak next to no English and have to call other staff from around the hotel to translate for them, every time we call they pass us round 3-4 different people until someone can partially understand us, repeating our issue each time. It has really put a downer on the end of our holiday when we wanted to have a chill week before a long flight home, since arriving it has been issue after issue. To make it even worse, we paid more for the 10 night stay here as we did for all the other hotels we have stayed at on this trip combined. (We came for 1 month) We were really looking forward to it as it was recommended to us when we booked and seemed to be a beautiful hotel, in reality I think it has been the worst 5-star hotel we have ever stayed in and would not recommend it to anyone.

Where to even begin?! Yes, the hotel and surrounding views are beautiful, we booked for this reason but please pay attention to the poor reviews, we didn't and wish we had. I want to make it clear that we are not usually 5-star people, we only booked this hotel because it was for our honeymoon so we wanted it to be extra special. We stayed here for 3 nights and didn't mind that it was slightly more expensive than other places in the Ubud area because we thought it would be worth it. Well, it really wasn't worth the money. Let's start with the positives, there isn't many. The Asmara Pool Villa was stunning and so peaceful, the bath was also amazing! Another positive (I thought) - a vegan menu. Now the negatives, it's a long list so get comfy! Firstly the food, we ordered room service on the first night -we got there quite late and were hungry from travelling so couldn't wait to eat! I tried to order a cocktail-thought it would be nice to kick off our first night there but I was told that they didn't have access to the bar...bit odd but fair enough. I ordered some type of burrito and a mezze platter, we are not picky people but it was all SO bland! My husband is not vegan and he also thought the food was poor, it was very disappointing to say the least. Despite having a vegan menu, there was no vegan options at breakfast-apart from fruit, I settled for avocado on sourdough every morning (had to ask with no eggs), I tried to ask the staff if there were other options but they didn't understand what 'vegan' meant. There was also no dairy free milks available which I find strange as I would have thought with their extensive vegan menu they would have needed some sort of milk alternative for at least one of the dishes, which makes me question their understanding of vegan. We decided to give the onsite Indian restaurant a go as it had been recommended to us, so again had high expectations. There were no chicken dishes available at all, only seafood and mutton - my husband isn't a fan of either but went for the mutton curry, again left very disappointed and hungry as it came with bones in and very little meat on the bones! When the waitress asked if everything was ok, he explained about the bones and she asked if he had a problem with bones like it was his problem, possibly a language barrier and she maybe didn't mean it like that but my husband was not impressed. Mines was actually ok, after finally ensuring what I had ordered was actually vegan- the waitress again had no idea what vegan / no dairy meant and tried to pan me off with a paneer curry, thankfully the manager (I assume) came over to check and helped with my order, he was actually very helpful. I just find it bizarre that a place which has a great vegan menu has such poorly trained staff, if you are going to advertise vegan then at least ensure your staff know what that means! Anyway, the next night we ate in Ubud as we couldn't stomach any more food at the hotel. Now I come to our last morning, we ordered a floating breakfast as you do in Bali, this cost an extra £25 for the staff to bring it to the room and put it on a heart shaped basket, fair enough, it looked lovely. We had pre-ordered the night before for 8.30am as we wanted to enjoy our last morning before getting picked up at 10am. Well the breakfast arrived late at 9am - after phoning to see where it was. So already we felt we were going to have to rush it. When we ordered I clearly asked for NO EGG on the avocado toast and I saw the waiter write it down, but of course when it came in the morning it had sloppy runny egg all over it which put me off immediately, the waiter asked if it was ok, I didn't want another one because goodness knows how long I would have to wait for it when it was already late. They did apologise half - heartedly but by this point we were just fed up and ready to leave. This brings me to the staff... they were pretty useless if I'm being honest, we had an issue with our villa door - actually quite a few issues! 3 times we had to ask someone to fix our door. Firstly, we noticed when we first arrived that it was really difficult to open and close, I couldn't actually manage it. It was really stiff as we were leaving to go out on our first morning, so we said to the lady at reception who said she would get the engineers to look at it. Well, when we returned it was the exact same, we aren't even sure anyone looked at it! The next day as we were leaving it jammed and wouldn't close, so we said to reception and the lady sent the engineers, we were heading out so left the engineers fixing the door-they were probably the nicest staff members we spoke to! Later, we returned and checked with reception if it had been fixed before heading to the room- the staff members just looked at us and were clueless (it was the same lady we had spoken to that morning!) - she actually said she thought we had checked out that day and had left! Anyway, they couldn't tell us so we just had to go and see, we find that the runner had been fixed/replaced and we thought brilliant that should be it fixed now. Still no! After that, the door actually got jammed shut, thankfully there was a patio door, otherwise we would have been stuck in the room! We understand that these things can happen, but what frustrated us was the way the staff dealt with it- they couldn't care less and we weren't offered anything for the inconvenience. Next- cleanliness, overall the villa was pretty clean, but there were two things that we noticed were overlooked, one being the sheet above the bed- it was filthy and is clearly never changed! The other being the shower screen, again probably never cleaned- see photos below. We just felt for the price and star rating it should have been immaculate. Lastly, the location - it is a good half an hour car journey from Ubud but that's not really what bothered us, there is a taxi rank on the way to the hotel that basically blocks the road and would only let local taxis through - this is probably nothing to do with the hotel, I know that they aren't keen on using Uber/Grab in Bali but for us, we felt quite trapped here compared to other places we have been. The only option is to use a local taxi who can charge you what they like! I am glad that some people have had good experiences at this hotel but we, along with many others by the looks of it, did not. We would go back to Bali but would definitely not stay here and would not recommend this hotel. It is such a shame as it has so much potential to be brilliant-but is currently very, very far from it.

Just checked out of our Villa… very sad to leave!! The villa was amazing, luxurious and the view was breathtaking. The staff were helpful and attentive. The restaurant was quiet which seemed odd for August, however the food was lovely. We also tried Nattis Indian which was onsite, this was lovely with a special credit to the staff there… so friendly. A nice quiet hotel perfect for our stay in Bali as a couple. If you can definitely get a villa they’re so private and just made the stay even more special. The room service was great always arrived promptly and smiley service. Please note if you’re staying at this hotel the use of GoJeks are forbidden. You can only use local drivers. Thank you all at Kenran for our stay. We will definitely be returning in the future to this beautiful hotel.

Very nice stay. We stayed at Kenran as a family in july 2023. The hotel and the surroundings are really beatyfull. Before arriving we read some of the reviews which were not too good. We really dont think they deserve bad reviews. I think some of the reviews are outdated. Everything was really good. I will try to comment on some of the topics in the bad reviews. . The service at frontdesk and and in restaurants were really good and fast. Not overpriced compared to ubud. They support local taxis (this is actually a thing all over Bali) we never managed to get a cheaper taxi from Ubud to the hotel than the other way - so the hotel did not take overprice for taxis. It takes 20 min to Ubud and price is close to 10 dollars. Both pools were open and really beatifull. Breakfast delicious. They rent out scooters  - price for a day 100.000 rupiah= 6 dollars. I surely would not hesitate to stay here again.

False advertising: there is no shuttle to Ubud. Lack of basic hygiene in the hotel and the restaurants. Lots of ants in restaurants and rest rooms in Villas and lots of lizards who will poop on top of your bed roof. Water logging issues in rest rooms. For the amount we are paying to stay here, we expect basic hygiene and certain standard of service. The tub filled with dead bugs from the pipe. It felt like the hotel was not built keeping in mind safety regulations. The terrain to the villas is very steep slope. In many other areas, there was no safety rail at all for 10-50 metre falls. There are 4 flights of stairs you need to use for the hotel or the buggy which very painfully needs to make 7 point turns 3 times going up and down. All stairs can be very slippery (humidity, some are green from moss, worse following a rain). The top infinity pool has no safety rail or 2nd lower rail (like most infinity pools). It is easy to imagine a tourist dying at this hotel, either due to intoxication, taking a “dangerous picture” or jumping from the top pool to the bottom pool (the set up almost encourages this - especially when alcohol is involved). We saw a 10 year old boy standing on a square cushion, right next to the edge of the infinity pool - if he had overbalanced backwards - he would have gone over the edge. The views are no doubt amazing but the hotel management doesn’t understand customer service. They charge 21% tax for food in their Indian restaurant which is ridiculous.
