I am not sure how to rate the Drury Inn in West Des Moines. There are many aspects that would lead us to recommend this property. We stayed for three nights. The facility is close to the airport, no more than 20 minutes away, with easy access to major highways. it is in a suburban shopping area with nice restaurants and other shops, including a Target. On a nice day, it's a good area to stroll around. Our suite was nice enough with two rooms, one with a sofa, ottoman, TV and cabinet with a fridge and microwave. The other room was a bedroom with a large bed, a TV, a desk, a dresser, two night stands, and a desk chair. The bathroom was standard, not big but not small, either. The bedding and towels were of good quality. The bed itself was comfortable. The TV had a good selection of channels. When we checked in, the room and bathroom were clean. As for the facility itself, it has a nice lobby and breakfast/gathering area. When we checked in the first evening, the breakfast area was filled with people and was very noisy. But it was quiet on our floor, so no need to worry about that. Breakfast in the morning was a step above your standard chain motel breakfast. The eggs, biscuits, sausage gravy, and sausage were hot and the staff kept them replenished. The bread selection was a little sparse, but I guess you can't please everyone. (I would have liked some whole wheat bread or some kind of whole grain muffins.) There was a waffle maker, cereal, juices, and coffee, also. All was going well after our first night there, but then... We went out during the day to visit family, but when we returned in the evening our room had not been serviced. We figured it was just a glitch with housekeeping so we didn't want to make a fuss. The next day we went out for the whole day again. When we returned in the late afternoon, our room still had not been serviced. When we went to the desk to inform them (and not complain) of the problem, there was no one there. We waited for approximately five minutes and decided to leave. Just then a woman came out from the back and said she was on the phone but that someone would be with us shortly. After waiting another five minutes or so, someone came to serve us. When I mentioned our issue with housekeeping, he looked up our room on the computer and said something like "Oh, your room was not entered as a stay-through. I'll call housekeeping." That was it. No apology. No "Let me have a manager speak with you." Honestly, I did not expect groveling, but I did expect an apology from a member of management and, perhaps, an attempt to see if there were something they could do to make up for the error. I don't know how often this has happened to other guests. But for us, this was our first impression of the Drury Inn & Suites West Des Moines, and it was not a good one. If we come back to the area, we will probably find a different place to stay. First impressions matter.…
