First of all, the staff are extremely rude! Secondly, I had to literally hold the phone together for it to work. They had no extras & said there was nothing they could do til the following Tuesday & we were there from Wednesday to a Friday. Do not spend your hard earned money at this place!
After checking in we discovered that under the beds was filthy. i asked the front desk to have them cleaned because we were traveling with a dog and he hadn't tried to eat something from under one of the beds. He said it would take awhile. We went to di ner. After 1 1/2 hours, we returned. The room had not be cleaned. I asked again and was told to give them 30-45 minutes. After 45 minutes, we brought our things to the front desk and explained that the room was unacceptable. we were leaving and I wanted a refund. The refund was refused. We left anyway.
The sheets had stains, there was hair on the bed and I the towels, there was a dog next door that kept barking. The entire room smelled like smoke. And The receptionist was dismissive and rude. But….it was cheap!!! So…you get what you get I guess. Cheap and last minute! So not bad for a weary traveller.
Our room was clean and adequate. The front desk clerk was very friendly and thoughtful. However, the front desk clerk was not wearing a face mask and the plexiglass shield did not extend over the entire counter, and the clerk was within two feet of my face. This puts me--and thus my entire family--at risk for COVID infection. While the owner has taken some COVID precautions (e.g., no communal coffee in the lobby), not requiring staff to wear face masks demonstrates a lack of concern for public health. Given that approximately 150,000 people have died of COVID-19 in the US alone, this is concerning. We we will choose another hotel to stay in in the future until the owners make substantive changes to their policies and practices. Also, we are not Democrats--COVID-19 does not discriminate on the basis of political affiliation.…
I have stayed here many times. I have always appreciated the low price for a decent room. This time different. Room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke despite being a nonsmoking room. Around 2am I was awakened by the next door neighbors having sex loudly which continued for a coulpe hours. Then at 6am I woke up to the smell of pot and a guy in the hallway ba going on a door demanding to be let in. The quality of the place has taken a nosedive. It's too bad.
My husband and I booked a room at the West Des Moines, IA, Motel 6. I stayed in Room 137 from Sept 8th , 2019, until the morning of Sept 19th,2019. We were in Des Moines for a funeral and family events due to his mother’s death. I stayed in the room alone because my husband spent his time with his grieving father. The morning after our arrival (Sept 9th) I noticed several bites on my left leg in the knee area but I wrote it off as a spider or mosquito. This was the day of the viewing at the funeral home so I didn’t think about the bites much. The morning of Sept 10th I found more bites. This time they were on the inside of the left foot. I didn’t think about it that day either because it was the day of the funeral. The morning of Tuesday, Sept 11th I had numerous bites on my right leg, from the ankle to the knee, and I was itching like crazy on both legs. By Sept 12thI had several bites at the base of my hairline along the back of my neck. I was trying to figure out where the bites were coming from at this point. On Thursday, Sept 13th, a family member, who is a nurse, looked at my legs and said they were fleabites. I told her that I had been noticing small black “specks” when I showered at the motel and on the bed linen but hadn’t put it together. I went to the store and purchased flea and tic spray for carpets and sprayed the entire motel room. On Sept 14th I planned to speak with “Yvonne” at the front desk about the problem but didn’t because she told me it was “housekeeper appreciation day” and I thought it would be inappropriate to make a complaint due to the special event. I returned to the front desk and met with Yvonne the next day. I told Yvonne about the problem with the flea infestation in Room 137 and how I had sprayed the room. I offered to show her my legs but she dismissed this by saying she believed me and didn’t need to look at the bites. I also told her that the refrigerator had frozen all our food completely solid and that the air conditioner was making loud, rattling noises that she may want to have looked at by maintenance. Lastly, I told her that housekeeping had been to our room only once since our check-in on Sept 8th and that this hadn’t included a change of linen. Yvonne said that she would talk to maintenance about the a/c and the refrigerator, and would have housekeeping clean my room that afternoon if I would let her know when I left the room. I asked her to have housekeeping clean the floors, especially under the beds and change all the linens. That afternoon I notified Yvonne when I left the room for the rest of the day (it was somewhere around noon when I let her know and when I left). Upon return, nothing had been done by housekeeping. Again on Sept 16th and 17th nothing was done by housekeeping in my room. I met with Yvonne again and she was surprised, saying she had left the housekeeper “Patricia” a hand-written note to clean my room. Yvonne said she would again contact housekeeping and have my room cleaned but again nothing. Sept 18th I let Yvonne know that nothing had been cleaned and she said she would have the general manager, “Lyle”, call me. I gave Yvonne my cell phone number. I was away from the motel from early morning until late but had my cell phone with me in anticipation of Lyle’s call. Lyle did not call. I left the motel very early the morning of Sept 19th to fly home. In summary: •All of our food froze in the refrigerator and even after talking with the front desk, nothing was done to resolve the problem. •I was bit numerous times on both legs and the back of my neck by fleas, which didn’t stop occurring until I sprayed the motel room. Even after talking to the front desk, nothing was done to resolve the problem. •For the 10 nights I stayed in Room 137, the linen was never changed. Even after talking to the front desk, nothing was done. •For the 10 nights I stayed in Room 137, housekeeping emptied the garbage and brought clean towels one time (2 bath, 1 hand, 2 wash cloths, shower mat). I was responsible to go to the housekeeper cart and get towels and garbage bags and even toilet paper, and to rid the room of the garbage and dirty towels. Even after talking to the front desk, nothing was done. •I waited all day Sept 18th for a phone call from “Lyle” the general manager but received no call. The laundry room, hallways, and outside front of the building were filthy. It was apparent that the shelf the television sits on in Room 137 hadn't been cleaned in a very, very long time. Underneath the beds hadn't been swept and had dirt, debris, loose change and dust. There were spider webs in the bathroom around the door frame. The elevator was out of order the entire stay. In closing, it is apparent that the staff at the West Des Moines, IA, Motel 6 did not care that I had more than a dozen flea bites on my legs and neck. Nor did they care enough to do even the most minimum of tasks to accommodate my needs during the 10 days I was in Room 137. The one thing the staff at the West Des Moines, IA, Motel 6 did do is bill my credit card promptly. I still have red scars from where the bites on my legs and neck; I had to pay for fast food rather than eat the food I had brought with me to the motel, which was still in the refrigerator when I checked out; I was responsible for any cleaning that did occur in Room 137, including washing floors and counters after spraying for the fleas; I was responsible for replenishing my own supplies, including toilet paper; I had to pay to wash enough clothes to wear until I checked out to ensure they were not flea infested. Even given all these, once home all our clothes have to hang outside in sealed bags for a number of days before I wash/re-wash them. We will send our suits and dress clothes to the dry cleaners to be sure any fleas are gone. Given all this, I can only say that my stay at the West Des Moines, IA, Motel 6 was a nightmare. I returned home discouraged and scarred.…
My room was dirty. Bathtub shower dirty with hair in tub. Cockroachs in room. Bed linens very thin and not comfortable. Hallways in building dirty with smashed food on stairs. A lot of paper and general dirt on carpets in hallway. Elevator broken and long trek through several hallways to get to room. Water in room lukewarm. Never did get hot
The room had a cheap rate but the stay was not that great. The elevator had previously been struck by lightening and was not repaired timely. It was out of order the four days I was in town. When I woe to check in and out, there wasn’t anymore at the front desk. I did not appreciate standing around to wait for service. The building is right next to the interstate and it’s very loud at night when trying to sleep
I was staying 10 minutes on desk before manager come. Good price but bad service. The room was clean but hall and laundry were horrible. Not bed with location. A lot of space for parking, for example- we were on a long track, but had no problem to park it. Also we sow a pool in hotel, but didn't use it.
Had to detour from Council Bluffs/I-29 to Des Moines. Booked this on the road for a late night check in. Motel 6 is what it is. Got a good rate on two rooms. The rooms were clean and basic. The property is sort of like a college dorm. You get a bed and bath. That's it. But, it was clean.
