From the very first employee we talked to on the driveway to the last guy I handed the key cards back to where all super friendly and very helpful! Hotel was very clean and quiet, seen someone wiping something down every time we walked around the hotel. Lots of things to see and do within walking distance, and the enclosed skywalk is attached to this property so you may not have to go out in the weather when exploring. The only minor complaint we had where the beds were firmer than we are used to. When back in Des Moines we will definitely stay here again.
The accommodation were great! Very spacious and well kept. We were just hoping the bar would be open and it wasn’t. We just really wanted a place close to relax and have a drink after long days at the hospital.
I jumped to this hotel after the horrible experience at the Hilton Hotel Fort Des Moines. It was the opposite of the experience there. The valet staff were helpful and easy. The front desk was untrained and didn't care (but after the confrontation at the Hilton, this was welcome). The rooms were larger than expected and well appointed with the reno being really good. The car was always available. The location was fine. Easy in and easy out. It was the perfect no touch, no hassle hotel.
The low rating is due to the service at this hotel and nothing else. I felt that there was overall lack of care with the front desk workers. I went to the front desk to inquire about the list of charges on my account so far. Even before I was able to further explain my purpose, the young lady at the front desk cuts me off and explains something that I wasn’t even asking about. She was very rude and unprofessional.
Good day to you - I just wanted to see my feedback after a 2 day stay at the Des Moines Marriott downtown. Well, the experience was not positive….especially after staying 2 nights at Marriott Torrance and Farnum AutoGraph Omaha just this week. Here is my feedback: 1. This Marriott needs a ton of work - Cosmetic, Service and Execution 2. Checkin was nice, but NO information provided about Ambassador benefits, no information at all…. 3. Dirty, lobby area, elevator area just plain dirty 4. Room was nice…well done 2601 - but shower and toilet were not very functional….Shower pressure poor and toilet would not flush consistenly 5. Room was not cleaned….not touched up at all 6. No water in room, nothing 7. Restuarant (since club was closed over the weekend - which is ridiculous) was 1970’s…..drab, dirty and poorly lit. - Food selection was second rate…. - Coffee was terrible….which is not consistent with other Marriotts 8. Valet team were GOOD, nice and fast….so thanks for this. In conclusion, this location needs help, immediate help. I am from Des Moines, know the town well…but will never recommend or stay at this location. This Marriott does not represent the quality and service of Marriott….no way, not in anyway.…
Great location downtown that was walkable to my meetings and to dinner. The whole lobby area is extremely spacious - I actually hosted a meeting there - and the bar was fine. The fitness center was a bit dated but it had ample equipment and you could get a full body workout in. The lounge for frequent stayers offered a great breakfast - good hot food and fruit. The elevators were speedy and the wifi was strong. The rooms were fine and I was able to get a good night's sleep. The only minor complaint was having to valet park and wait for the guy/pay the parking fee.
We just checked in for a two-night stay at this hotel for our daughter’s dance competition. My daughter and I are sharing a room with another dancer and her mom, so we specifically booked a room with two queen beds back in September 2021 for the event. Our email confirmation states that we are confirmed for a room with two queen beds. When we arrive, after driving for four and a half hours, we find that our room has one king bed. We ask about our reservation, and they tell us that that is the best available they have for us and that there is nothing else they can do. To say that we are disappointed is an understatement. It’s going to be a long weekend. 😩
As the dominant hotel in Iowa there is clearly a lot look for. Hotel in general was well run and is very clean. Rooms are pretty well sized and has great views. Elevators are a bit on the slow side. Only has one night and arrived rather late and had to deposit early so I don’t have all that much to say. But it does have plenty of potential and loads of room to improve. Biggest negative is that parking. is very expensive. WiFi is also great. It’s actually cheaper to park on the street and get a ticket than to go in the garage. I don’t know when I’ll be back here, but likely will stay here again if I do.
In a downtown business oriented Marriott I’m not expecting greatness but I don’t see myself returning to this hotel. It started with the front desk greeting, no smile, no pleasantries, just a command - “Last Name”. Barely acknowledged my Bonvoy status (which seems to becoming more typical across Marriott now that the hotel owners are their customers). Certainly no perks offered due to status. Arrive to my room, it’s clean but not to a standard I felt great about. I frankly felt the need to wipe the bathroom surfaces down myself. Toiletries bolted to the shower wall, two conditioners no shampoo and not tamper resistant bottles. Hotel didn’t seem full yet I was still somehow very close to the ice machine, which was open and noisy to the hallway. Rooms are very poorly lit as well, quite dark even with all the lights on. Breakfast in the morning, I only had a short amount of time so went to the lobby coffee shop. Very slow service, very limited selection and only shelf stable creamers for the milk. Bottom line, the place is fine but there are much better options for the money in Des Moines.…
Came here for a tradeshow. Elite benefits included $10 Food and beverage as well as buffet breakfast. Conciege lounge had only drinks and chips. Room was quite adequate. Nice bed and linens. Staff attentive. Fitness center needed wipes and towels. Otherwise decent stay.
