Enjoyable 5 night stay at this hotel. We were on the 10th floor in a junior suite which was very spacious with a separate sitting area, corner sofa and 2 TVs. A big fridge and decent safe which was handy. Good lighting with plenty of lamps and electrical outlets.

The bathroom was also a decent size, with slightly older fittings (particularly the bathtub) but a separate shower and very clean, plus a steam-proof mirror.

There was a room fee to pay every day but we appreciated that it was clear upfront about what this included, such as 2 bottles of water in the room replenished every day. There was coffee in the lobby each morning, and water all day - although this wasn’t always available. No complimentary tea in room or elsewhere.

The fee also included a drink token per room per night to use in the bar - it would have been better to have one per guest. Regarding the bar - this area was quite gloomy and dark. If the atmosphere was better we would have spent more time there every day, but as it happened we just used our vouchers before heading out to dinner.

On staff, some on reception were very friendly but the restaurant staff were quite disinterested, bordering on rude, so we only ate breakfast there once. The food was fine. Would recommend the Pitsfield Cafe across the street as an alternative - friendly staff in a historic building.

Overall we enjoyed our stay - location is great and the L line is right outside. If they made a few changes such as improving the bar, maybe leaning more into the heritage of the jewelry quarter with themed drinks etc, brighter lighting and more welcoming staff, it would be perfect. But a solid choice for a stay in Chicago.

The staff is by far the friendliest I have encountered at a hotel in a long time. Unlike many hotels since COVID that only clean your room at checkout or at your request housekeeping made sure we didn't need anything if we left our do not disturb sign on the door if they saw us in the hallway. I had an issue with the deadbolt not working on my door and they sent someone up right away to fix it. The rooms have a keurig coffee maker and they provide free bottled water as well which is a nice touch. Some of the furniture was a little worn but the room was very clean. The location was great, right on the CTA line. The drinks at the bar were good. Parking rates seemed a bit high but there are plenty of other options nearby if you are looking to save money. I highly recommend this hotel.

It is a good hotel located close to Millennium Park. I booked because I wanted to go to the concert. It is within walking distance of the Chicago Symphony hub. I don't have any trouble shopping. I wanted to get a ticket, so I talked to him and he was very friendly and listened to me. The hardware in the room was quite old and the door was broken, but on the whole I felt safe and comfortable. The taxi driver on the way home was also a guest from the hotel, so he paid a flat fee. I was able to get to the airport with peace of mind. The rooms are large enough and the restaurant has a minimum menu, so I think it is a hotel where there is no problem for a woman alone.

Taking into account the price and level of Hotel I wish there were 3.5 stars, I can't say "Very Good" but "Average" is a bit lower than I would say. I would say the stay was as good as expected. I'll break into pros and cons with my caveats this is an older property renovated so its not new and you can't expect it to be modern.

Traveled 4 days late December with the goal to see museums and do some walking about the city with myself and my teen. Our room was basic 2 doubles and small, can't comment about the other rooms and size we were just looking for the cheapest rate with 2 beds. Traveled with a teen and we are both active so our location was good for us and the walking, might not work for those who may be less mobile or willing to take public transit.

Location Pros

On Wabash by Theaters and Millennium Park and Lakefront Drive and Art Institute. We were able to walk to Field and Shedd museums and up to the Gold Coast/Lincoln Park. The #6 Bus came 2 blocks over to take us to the MSI and the Blue Line is 2 blocks over on Dearborn to and from O'Hare and the L is right there. Plenty of restaurants around we went to 3 right by us.

Location Cons

It is literally under the L - if having a train running around you is going to bother you this is not your location. Also this part of Chicago is not the safest at night, might not want to wander around after 9pm - but its never been the best part of town.

Room Pros

Pricing was reasonable, 2 beds were comfortable enough, slept well, hotel was quiet (except for the L but that doesn't bother us). We had one of those air purifiers in the room so that was nice white noise. Window opened so we could have fresh air, they had turned off the AC so it was a bit stifling in there if we hadn't been able to get the window open. We like to sleep in the cold air so there is that. Others might not care.

Room Cons

Needs a refresh. Bathroom was a bit shabby and needs a solid cleaning. Rugs are worn, and paint is old. The room was in the middle so very dark. The Open Key on my phone worked for my room but not the elevator so still needed a hard key.

Amenities/Service Comments

Has a full service restaurant and bar which can be nice and they have a happy hour for drinks during the week that makes it reasonable, its a bit pricy outside happy hour. Ordered one dinner it was fine nothing great. But it was available.

Fitness room was clean but basic and missing any kind of mat for stretching/core/yoga. Major bummer.

The weekday staff was very helpful, weekend staff seemed a little bored and not as helpful they were not really interested in service it seemed. Oh well.

Daily housekeeping was available and they did a good job.

Did not park or use a meeting room or valet.

The Silversmith Hotel is a real gem in Jewelers Row, downtown Chicago. The building itself is one of the most successful examples of adaptive reuse in Chicago and the interior radiates with an art deco jewelry-inspired decor. My room had several features such as a lovely wood veneered, curving desk and period lamps that enhanced the modern comfort.

The hotel is a five minute walk from Millenium Park and the Art Institute but, for me, the best thing was the staff who were uniformly kind and helpful. I must mention by name Beverley, Courtney, Meg and Nico on the front desk and Enrique by the door. The housekeeping was exceptional with a lady of many years’ standing called Renata who serviced my room on the Sixth floor.

There is no room service but there is a traditional bar and the Adamus Restaurant with Jimmy cooking and Brian looking after guests. There plenty of cafés and restaurants within immediate walking distance.

Beds were comfy but small for 2. It was very clean. Roomy unit (jr suite 2 doubles, living area, large bath), but we expected more. The huge buffet/storage/dresser thing was so inconvenient being in the bedroom. Opening the doors to get into the fridge & coffee & safe blocked anyone accessing their bed plus it was just hard to get into at all. Also the fridge leaked water into its base so anything we had in the bottom shelf was soaked. That should all be in the living area, where there was only a small table with a tv. Large nice bathroom. Bath tub has absolutely nothing to hang on to so don’t boom this unit with anyone elderly or unstable. 2 queens would fit much better removing the huge storage and the large desk. The couch in the living room sunk way down if you sat in the middle of the couch. The charging ports in the middle bedside table didn’t hold your plug in, they just kept slipping out of the outlets. One curtain was partially off the rod we couldn’t reach to fix it. Beautiful place, location perfect, great bar, excellent service.

My wife and I booked this hotel for Labor Day weekend and it’s very convenient for getting around Chicago. It’s right next to an El stop and from Midway you’re dropped right at the hotel. The staff are attentive and follow up. Just be aware that there’s an expensive ($30/day) “preservation fee”, which covers water, WiFi and housekeeping. So if you take out what every other hotel does, it’s $30/day for water. We didn’t learn of this fee until after we booked too, which is frustrating. The friendly and helpful staff made up for it, but definitely is something you should be aware of when booking here. I wish they’d have just added the cost up front. Overall, a very good experience though and we were happy that despite being so close to the El, we couldn’t hear it from our room.

The staff is exceptional!! An heartfelt thank you Kenshia, Beverly, Enrique and another young lady who worked last night (9/7) - you looked out for me and were the cream of my trip!! The hotel room was beautifully updated and clean. Unlike many hotels fresh towels were restocked daily without requesting, as well as a couple bottles of water. This hotel is a historic treasure in a prime location within the loop being only a few feet from the L-train station making it very convenient to travel from Midway on the orange line. Everything you are looking for is nearby - stores, restaurants, Michigan Ave are close. When traveling to Chicago this is my destination to stay. Kudos to the entire staff!!

Three of us enjoyed a three night stay in the double/double suite. The hotel is well situated in the Loop, a very walkable blocks from the Blue Line station, the Art Institute, Millennium Park, etc.
The staff was very helpful especially Beverly at the front desk and Manuel at the bar.
Why 4 and not 5 stars? Upon checking in we were given zero information nor was there any in the room (only at checkout did we find out what we’d missed when we heard Beverly checking others in and saw a handout on the counter). Our bathroom had no towel bars and a very loose faucet in the shower/tub, hard to toggle between the two. It took 3 tries to get the extra blanket we’d requested and the sofa bed in the suite was not particularly comfortable.
That said, I’d return here due to the location and general friendliness of the staff. The bar was also nice and we had excellent food there on our first night.

I had a pleasant one-night stay at the Silversmith for a business trip. I took Ubers instead of public transit, but two metro stops are close by. The Silversmith is within walking distance to the Willis (née Sears) Tower, Palmer House hotel and conference center, and the federal courthouse. The neighborhood is marginal, and I had an incident where a group of young men surrounded me and tried to intimidate me while I was waiting for an Uber. The hotel is nicely appointed with premium-looking finishes. My 8th floor junior suite was spacious, clean, and well insulated from the sound of the metro below, although it would benefit from brighter lighting. I had a great burger from the Adamus Restaurant (the hotel should consider offering room service). The front desk staff were friendly and very accommodating when I needed some extra time to check out. For the price, the Silversmith provides an experience at least on par with mid-tier Marriott, Hilton, and Hyatt hotels.
