Beautiful and clean Boutique hotel on E. Delaware Place in Chicago's Gold Coast near great shopping and restaurant options, the Talbott Hotel rooms were large and comfortable. The bar staff was excellent and the F&B Director Brandon was on-site and engaging. I would highly recommend The Talbott when visiting Chicago and look forward to doing so again myself when back in town..
Gorgeous decor and decent rates! Very clean, with everything we could need. Brandi at the front desk was so helpful and amiable! Very convenient location too, despite no official parking through the hotel itself.
TL,DR: Aging but nice enough hotel with miserable management. Do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere. The whole story: The room was nice enough for an aging downtown hotel. All of the service people were very nice, too. But all the good will the Talbott had established was destroyed at checkout. I presented a Marriott Bonvoy gift card. The young man at the desk couldn't get it to work, so he called a young woman. She tried for a minute or two, then told me, "I'm off the clock. It's your gift card, so you have to call them." I asked her to call, but she repeated that it was my gift card and she was off the clock. Never in my decades traveling with Marriott have I been told someone can't help me because they are off the clock, especially since I achieved Bonvoy Titanium level. When I called the number on the gift card, they asked why I was calling. They said they could only talk to the people at the hotel. I asked the first young man for the name of the young woman's boss. He gave me a name, and a title "Director of Operations," By now the young woman, off the clock, was gone, but the young man talked with the card company for a few minutes. With no success and a line backing up to check in, he told me he would continue to work on it and let me know his progress, but he never did. The next week I tried reaching out to the Director of Operations. I called three times, and she couldn't be bothered to call me back. On one occasion I was told I'd get a call within 15 minutes. I sat next to the phone with my earbuds in for 75 minutes. When I called back, I was told she planned to call me "when she had time." 75 more vacation minutes wasted! So I left a message saying I was on vacation and difficult to reach by phone. I asked that she send me a text with a time she would be able to speak with me. I have received neither call nor text. With all the time and aggravation I have spent on the Talbott, there is no remedy they could offer that would make things right. My only recourse is to leave lots of reviews to save other travelers the miserable experience I had.…
Staying at the Talbott is like stepping back in time but in all the good ways. Lovely service, helpful, friendly staff, and quiet clean rooms. Just north of the loop and near the Newberry Library, it is a perfect oasis in Chicago.
The service here is very good and the location a block or two off Michigan Ave is good. The amenities in the room were not great. There was only one washcloth, bed was just Ok and NO desk which is really odd with so many people working remote. My room was so close to the building next to me that I literally had to keep my blinds closed. I would not stay here again and the only reason I gave it a 3 was that the employees were so nice.
The Talbott Hotel has become part of the Marriott family. It sits in a great neighborhood at the north end of the Magnificent Mile, features clean and spacious rooms, employs friendly staff, and has good interior soundproofing. However, as of early June 2022, the Talbott doesn't have the look or feel of a modern Marriott hotel with amenities. For example, it has no business center, only a tiny basement exercise room, etc. Rooms do not include microwave ovens or tea kettles as standard items (they need to be requested), and do not include room safes. There is no signage or any other indication of the hotel's affiliation with Marriott. One hopes that Marriott will find a way to update the hotel just a bit, while retaining its good points.
It’s important we share this as we don’t want anyone else to have this same experience. From an old bandage stuck to the bathroom floor, to dirty nightstands that were not wiped clean (see photo), and little to no furniture in the room. The only furniture were two chairs that were old and very, very tiny. Sad to see the quality and care of this hotel go down so rapidly. The only pros we can think of is the location is perfect and the sheets were clean & bed was comfortable.
I stayed for 2 nights while attending a work conference. The pros of this hotel: Great neighborhood, quiet, small hotel. Air conditioning worked great in the room. The food at the hotel was also very good. Bed was comfortable. The cons: small amount of towels and almost no amenities. Meaning, there was a teeny tiny bar of soap (just 1!!) by the sink and no body wash. I was chuckling how it would be necessary to move that little bar of soap to the shower in the morning. Very small flat pillows (requested more and that request was quickly taken care of) My room was quite small but it was just me so that was ok. I would have liked a chair in the room (only a hard desk chair) to read my book. The only bed in the room was a queen, not a king. There is a small gym in the basement that was quite warm to workout in. There was a Peloton, but I don’t think the hotel paid the subscription fee. I am a Peloton member and I couldn’t even sign into the bike. So,that should be repaired or remedied. There were plenty of places to eat nearby and a Starbucks across the street. I noticed in previous reviews that people complained there wasn’t any coffee until 7am in the lobby( this is correct)….but the Starbucks is just across the street and opens very early. There is another cute coffee place just next door as well.…
Certainly a nice hotel which appears to be well managed and maintained. A special callout to Taylor at the front desk for his attention and help/attitude - nice approach!!. He made it special. One recommendation to give, if you need to have a desk in your room you should specify such as the first room I got did not have one. They (Taylor) moved me which is appreciative to me. Finally, the selection of TV stations are not huge but does meet the need.
I stayed with the Talbott family for several weeks as I had no place to turn being new to Chicago. Exceeding expectations would be an understatement. Even with a 4 month old puppy, this staff was there to help me with ANYTHING at any moment. I work in luxury hospitality and what this hotel has to offer is beyond their humble kindness. I stayed in 12 other luxe hotels over my year in Chicago, the service, the cleanliness, safeness, and simply put their hospitality is of the highest caliber I experienced. Tucked in the safest, calmest part of Downtown Chicago's Gold Coast, midst everything you need if you carry a bit of class. Beautiful moody lounge, INCREDIBLE food. Simply put, I cant say enough great words and can not think of anything negative.
