We stayed one night at this hotel after our train was late and we missed our connection. Despite some reviews making me a little nervous about the condition, our room was completely updated. It had a great king bed, nice linens and updated bathroom. The room was not large but plenty big enough with plenty of space for 2 suitcases and surfaces for our stuff. The bathroom is tiny. My only issue was that when we got into the room , the A/C was on full blast and really loud. However we changed the thermostat setting to 73, put the fan (?) setting to "auto". Then it was fine. The location is really great. Chicago is a wonderful walkable city.
Incompetent staff unprogramed our keys and assigned our room to someone else. That person strolled into the room while I was getting ready. Rooms air system was loud it was difficult to sleep. Hotel is conveniently located. However I wouldn't stay here again.
Great location in an old building undergoing reno. Room did not come with fridge even though paid for superior to have one. Air conditioner blew warm air to 79 degrees but thankfully loud enough to mask the noise. Rooms were small, clean and comfy. Took an hour to check in after a group.
Honestly, if I weren't staying here on a business trip, I would have checked out the first day and stayed somewhere else. I stayed during Chicago's first heat wave and the air conditioner in my room didn't work the entire time. I was told to "shut it off, wait half an hour, and turn it back on" as if it were the IT guy trying to fix my computer. When I mentioned it at the front desk, they said they would "add me to the list" of people who didn't have working air conditioning. Then the manager told my business contact that I didn't know how to use the thermostat, that's why I didn't have air conditioning. On top of it, the lobby is a construction site and the elevators don't work. Oh, and it has zero amenities - I had to ask for an iron and iron board. Other than that, it's absolutely stellar! (sarcasm). I'd advise anyone looking to save a buck to spend a little bit more and stay in a decent hotel.…
For the most part we enjoyed our stay. The room rate is extremely reasonable, beds comfortable and the location perfect. I would stay there again if returning to Chicago. However there are a few things that need attention. We were woken up earlier than we wished by the cleaners talking outside our door. At first I thought it was guests but by the second morning realized it was staff. The problem could be because of too big a space under the door. Totally interrupted our sleep. Only one elevator was working and only four fit in at a time, which made for long waits. The hotel has washing machines but the soap dispensers were empty. The machines supposedly accepted credit cards but that function did not work and there was no change available at the front desk. No counter space or shelf in the bathroom…
All of the staff was amazing, but the hotel itself was ridiculous. The rooms were dirty (we got moved and both the first and second room had dirty bedding/bathroom), it was ridiculously loud at all hours of the night as the crowd had no consideration for other guests & the water pressure would drop 90% if someone in a nearby room was taking a shower. The rooms were small & lacking normal hotel things like complimentary water or even a mini fridge. We left to check into Aloft right across the street. Literally any other hotel on this street will be better than this dirty sh** show
It’s good hotel in general. I like it. Location is perfect. Very clean hotel. Friendly stuff and helpful. There is not much complains, the elevator sometimes so busy or needs fix. So sometimes I need to wait long time for elevators, specially my room was in 9th floor. No chance to use stairs. And the deier second floor broke and they didn’t fix it and I wait dor 2 weeks and they didn’t fix it. But if you ask me if I come back ao yes For sure I will back.
I stayed here in January 2022 it was my very first trip to the states on my own in Chicago and was apprehensive about hotel locations/neighbourhoods etc but this was fantastic. The location was perfect! Walking distance to everything and I really enjoyed my stay and trip. The staff were very very helpful. The heater in the room broke on the last night of my stay and they offered to move me to another room a better room which I thought was very good as it was my last night ans I was leaving first thing the next morning they could have just thought what’s the point. The only thing I would say is my room wasn’t cleaned during my stay fresh towels etc which I would have preferred but overall it was a very good place to stay Would recommend and would definitely be staying again on my next visit…
Comfy beds and great shower. Ideal location one block from Michigan Avenue. Parking Garage across the street was discounted to $30 for the night we stayed. For the price, you cannot beat The St. Clair!
In looking at some of the reviews I was a little hesitant and then I called the hotel direct and spoke with Ms. Armica Reed. She does indeed understand five star service and is a credit to the hotel. She assured me we would be well looked after and that my partner could have an early check in. For a first time visitor to Chicago you cannot beat the location. We had a spacious room and best of all my favorite coffee - Seattle's Best. I have thick hair so water pressure is very important, lots of hot water and terrific pressure. We were rarely in the room but when we were which was just to rest before going out again it was a perfect place to chill. Staff were always friendly and the lobby immaculate.
