While the hotel's location earns praise for its convenience to local attractions, opinions on value are mixed, with some travelers questioning the cost due to unexpected charges and varying service quality. We booked this hotel for a long weekend in Chicago for my girlfriends birthday immediately after Christmas. The location was a big part of the decision, since we were expecting one day of great weather to be beside the lake, and one day of cool weather when we planned to go to the aquarium and Field Museum, both of which are very close.

Checkin was fast and friendly. We arrived around 1130am, but they had a king room ready. It was a great corner room on the 11th floor with a lake view. The first thing that struck us was the size. There was a long entry hallway that turned right into another long hallway with the bathroom entrance, and then finally the room. It felt very spacious, though the long hallways did seem to be wasted space.

The room was exactly what we expected from an Autograph property. Tastefully decorated, comfortable bed, all the expected amenities. Overall we were very happy. Until the next morning...

The big disappointment was the bathroom. As noted earlier it is fairly well separated for the rest of the room, but didnt seem to have any heat/AC vents so it was pretty cold when the room was comfortable. Even worse was the shower. At first glance it looked nice, but it was one of those becoming more common in hotels that does not have a door, just a half wall of glass. This makes it impossible to turn the shower on unless you are in it resulting in a strange dance avoiding water that is either too hot or too cold until you get it just right. It also means that no steam can get trapped in the shower to warm it up. This combined with the overall cold bathroom led to very chilly showers experiences. On top to this the water pressure was very weak.

As far as the hotel experience outside the room, it is a beautiful building, and we tired both the upstairs and downstairs bar areas and were pretty happy with the experience.

We love Marriott and especially their Autograph properties and tend to look for them first when we travel, but we will be skipping this one on the next Chicago trip, solely because of the bathroom experience.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and glad to read that you enjoyed your overall stay. I am sorry about your bathroom experience which I may not be able to fix until a new renovation. I understand that each person has personal preference and will certainly consider this for any upcoming changes we will make in the future. We do appreciate your patronage of Marriott and look forward to welcoming you back in one of our properties soon.

I was fortunate to stay at the Blackstone for a work conference. Everything in the hotel felt beautiful, interesting, and useful from the ornate yet modernly designed lobby to the modern tech products in the rooms to the soap with a Marilyn Monroe quote printed on the label. The service was extraordinary as well. Overall the Blackstone is great at the little things that chain hotels forget about and has an upscale, boutique, modern vibe that I found exciting and enjoyable.

We were traveling for a wedding with adult children and grandkids and had requested adjoining rooms for the kids and to have our room on same floor. I called the evening before to expedite this, and when we checked in, everything was exactly as requested. Our room on the 20th floor had a spectacular panoramic view of Lake Michigan and lovely bathroom. The adjoining rooms, also on the 20th floor were perfect—the first room huge and ideal for gathering, the second a smaller room with a lovely view. Dinner at Mercat far exceeded all expectations for value, quality of food and fun experience. We tried the tasting menu and would highly recommend. Our meal was well paced, service impeccable and our server totally fun. The stay was perfect, beginning with a warm greeting at check-in and ending with the bill for the rooms exactly as I had requested.

I see that you took advantage of many of our facility and services and I am thrilled to read that all went well. Travelling with kids can be difficult at times, so I am glad we were able to help ease your stress while you were staying with us. Mercat a la Planxa is one of my favorite restaurant as well, I am a little bias of course, but I highly recommend the homemade fresh paella and one of the best Gin and Tonic in Chicago!!!

Shockingly overpriced for what you get. Firstly the hotel is flaking at its seems, what once was probably a regal space is now tired and lacklustre. The receptionists and hotel guest manager are rude and unwelcoming. I was changed $150 per night for the ro as deposit and no one told me about this at booking leaving me with less money during my trip to America. When I asked when it’ll be released, I was told it takes longer ok debit cards (what I used). I asked to speak to a manager to complain about the lack of information given at check in about this but instead of being appreciative she was rude and confrontational. Plus whose ever stayed at a hotel that charged $200 plus per night and doesn’t offer free wifi in rooms. Pathetic.
The tapas restaurant is overpriced with mediocre food and the staff is rude and unfriendly.
As for housekeeping - there is not offered daily as is in most hotels, instead you have to call and ask 24 hours before if you want your room cleaned.
Very basic amenities in the room. The only thing going for this place is the bed which was comfortable.
Please save your money and stay elsewhere. I have stayed at the Virgin as well as Hyatt Centric in Chicago. Much much better. Goodness. I will never stay here again.

Sumaya, thank you for y our review which I have read carefully. However, I also received a full report about your interaction and the fact that you were made aware of that charge at check-in, unfortunately, you made your reservation with a third party company, which we do not manage. I am sorry they fail to inform you of the deposit. As for the return of the deposit, once again, we refund your account at check-in, but we do not control the bank timeliness. For the WIFI, it is complimentary to all our BonVoy members and I do not believe you are registered as such. However, I saw that it was given to you anyway without any charge. I am sorry you didn't appreciate our restaurant and overall hotel, and I thank you for your patronage. All the best.

From the time we arrived, no staff member was friendly and the level of service fell far below any other Autograph collection 4 star hotel we have stayed with. First, at check in, we asked not to be put near an elevator or ice machine, and were told we were not. Upon getting to the room, we were directly across from the ice machine. We asked to move and were told no. They were sold out. However it was only 5 pm and they had no other rooms? The manager also wouldn’t even speak with us, and the desk suggested we could go elsewhere. Shocking. Second, you can hear slamming doors and key card clicks from other rooms from under the door. Not quiet at all. Third, there were just two towels in the room and we called guest services to ask if two more could be brought up. The person said “no, but we could come down to the desk to get them.” Again, a 4 star autograph collection hotel?? Further, there was a line of 16 people checking in and no Marriott Elite desk. Just two desk people working. Also, the rooms are very small. Bottom line, the staff are unhelpful, often unfriendly, and the service is the same as a Days Inn. But at least they smile at you there. (Note, I rarely leave reviews but this stay motivated me to share how depressing it was, especially given it was supposed to be our five year anniversary treat.) :(

February 2020 marks my 5th stay at The Blackstone and the entire experience continues to impress. It’s wonderful to come back each year and be greeted by the same staff who are so kind and seem genuinely interested in how you’re doing. Big shout out to Norma & Tekoa in Club 1600 for making our stay extra special. A beautiful hotel with truly unique touches throughout - be sure to visit the Art Hall! I also love that the hotel does not use single use plastic bottles for the shampoos/conditioners/body wash. I would love to see recycling bins in the rooms the next time I come!

Went during Lollapalooza so prices may have been higher due to the event, but nearly 400 a night for a decent room is unreasonable. The room is kinda small and building itself is outdated. They also were not cleaning the rooms due to covid restrictions. They dont have a place to eat breakfast. They only had one roll of toilet paper in the room and when i asked for more the guy only brought 1 more roll!

The convenience is undeniable and it can save on uber charges. But overall, I am not impressed with the hotel.

Anytime we go to Chicago downtown, we stay at the Blackstone. The staff are kind and helpful. We usually get a room overlooking Lake Michigan and Grant Park and the views are great. The rooms are clean and spacious for a city hotel. The onsite dining is somewhat pricey but there are plenty of good eateries within walking distance.

I chose this hotel for our business trip due to the reviews and the photos online. This hotel did not disappoint! The location is perfect....walking distance to a ton of eateries and things to see. The lobby was beautiful with an updated historic feel. Check in was great and they explained how lounge benefits worked. Loved the room keys as they give a photo of a classic actress or President with a little information about them!!
I was in room 1406 which was corner room that had views of the city. The views were so so, but the room was bright with light due to having 2 windows. The room was large and the bathroom was amazing, spacious shower with perfect water pressure from the rain shower-head. Bed was comfy, very quiet rooms, and there was plenty of room lighting in the evenings. There were issues with my TV connecting to apps, so i needed my box reset by maintenance. It worked for the night, but then experienced the same issues in the morning.
Lounge breakfast was good: scrambled eggs, bacon, spinach and mushroom quiche, potatoes, French toast, yogurt with fruits, granola, oatmeal, coffee, fruits, and teas. I would definitely recommend this hotel and will look to stay here for my next visit to Chicago.

I arrived late to check in and was anxious to get into bed. Pulled back the covers only to find that someone who had stayed in the room previously had worn some red pajamas that had left fuzz all over the sheets. I called down to the front desk and asked for the sheets to be changed. Someone came up and handed me a stack of folded sheets and left me to change the sheets myself. Not a good experience and will go back to my other go to hotels when in Chicago.

Hadley, unfortunately we do not have any breakfast available on property. We do recommend you check out some of the local restaurants in the area. Our Front Desk Agent can give you list of restaurant close by when you check-in.

Not sure about the lounge hours. We are Titanium Elite members and we stayed in a beautiful suite but we received no vouchers. Not even a cocktail when our suite wasn’t available for nearly an hour after standard check in at 4pm, though we arrived close to noon.

yes and I believe the hotel has a parking fee. This is close to public transportation so if you take Uber, or taxi's it is very convenient. The double decker tour bus was right down the street, an easy walk.
